The Ukraine-Russian war has become a grinding mess. One reason is that this year, in contrast to most years, winter never really came. The result was only a two-to-three week window in which offensive operations could succeed due to the rivers of mud encountered at any other time when a unit strayed off paved roads. Then, for a couple of weeks in June, the Ukranians launched their vaunted “counter-offensive” against what may have been the most fortified defensive lines in history. The predictable – and predicted – result has been the annihilation of attacking Ukranian forces before even getting through minefields to the first Russian line of defense. More grinding ...

Americans’ trust in military hits ‘malaise era’ territory

Partisans have rushed to explain why, but the answer might be complicated — and quite simple — at the same time. It’s official. The state of the U.S. military is on the fringes of malaise era territory and it isn’t clear how the institution will be able to turn around the negative spiral with the American people anytime soon. A new Gallup Poll has found that 60 percent of the American public trust its military. Still over 50 percent, but a far cry from 70 percent just two years ago in 2021 and an even further fall from the 80-plus figures just a decade ago. The drop is seen among all party affiliations: Republicans (68 percent), Democrats (62 percent) and ...

The Iraq War Was a Systematic Atrocity
Post Date: 2023-07-31 09:39:16 by Ada

Media coverage of the twentieth anniversary of the start of the Iraq War mostly portrayed the war as a blunder. There were systematic war crimes that have largely vanished into the memory hole, but permitting government officials to vaporize their victims paves the way to new atrocities. It is folly to pay more attention to Pentagon denials than to piles of corpses and flattened villages. On the eve of the 2003 invasion of Iraq, former First Lady Barbara Bush announced: “Why should we hear about body bags and deaths and how many, what day it’s gonna happen? It’s not relevant, so why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?” The Pentagon quickly ...

Air Force maverick who warned of war with China sticks to his guns Gen. Michael A. Minihan, lauded by hawks in Congress, has disturbed some in the Pentagon with his fiery prognostications of a looming conflict By Dan Lamothe July 29, 2023 at 6:00 a.m. EDT Air Force Gen. Mike Minihan speaks to a journalist at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam earlier this month. (Tech. Sgt. Today is the 70th anniversary of the armistice that ended the fighting between North and South Korea. Almost 40,000 American soldiers died pointlessly in that conflict. If politicians and policymakers were honest and prudent, the Korean War would have vaccinated America against the folly and evil of foreign intervention. Instead, the war was retroactively redefined. As Barack Obama declared in 2013, “That war was no tie. Korea was a victory.” The war began with what Harry Truman claimed was a surprise invasion on June 25, 1950, by the North Korean army crossing the dividing line with South Korea that was devised after World War II. But the U.S. government had ample warnings of ...

US Sending More Weapons to the Ukraine as the Endless War Continues to Not End

Is this even news? Of course they are sending more. If they ever stop sending weapons and money to the Ukraine, the country will collapse. So the only way they are going to stop is if they’ve decided to surrender. RT: The Pentagon has announced another security assistance package for Ukraine worth $400 million, including air defense and anti-tank missiles. Anatoly Antonov, Russia’s ambassador to the US, called the decision “beyond morality and common sense.” According to a statement released by the Defense Department on Tuesday, the new batch of US military aid features additional munitions for Patriot and National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems ...

The Empire Knows It’s Pouring Ukrainian Blood Into An Unwinnable Proxy War

So the empire is still knowingly throwing Ukrainian lives into the meat grinder of an unwinnable proxy war, even as western officials tell the public that this war is about saving Ukrainian lives and handing Putin a crushing defeat whenever they’re on camera. In a new article titled “Ukraine’s Lack of Weaponry and Training Risks Stalemate in Fight With Russia,” The Wall Street Journal’s Daniel Michaels reports that western officials knew Ukrainian forces didn’t have the weapons and training necessary to succeed in their highly touted counteroffensive which was launched last month. U.S. officials invariably stress their commitment to human rights and are extremely quick to condemn other countries for alleged violations. However, Washington’s conduct too often makes a mockery of that supposed commitment. The latest examples of such hypocrisy are two aspects of U.S. policy regarding the Russia-Ukraine war, both involving the provision of highly controversial weapons to Ukrainian forces. Providing the means to kill or maim innocent civilians is not — or at least should not be — an acceptable American value. [Click to Tweet] The most recent episode is the Biden administration’s decision to ship cluster munitions to Kyiv. News reports indicate that ...

The US Is Out of Shells. Doesn’t That Mean the War Is Lost?

Joe Biden has admitted on CNN that the reason they are sending cluster bombs to the Ukraine is that they are out of conventional 155mm shells. This makes more sense. The idea that they were sending the cluster bombs as a strategic decision did not make any sense. Basically, if the US is incapable of producing the most basic supplies for the war, then the war is effectively already over. Arguably, it’s been over for a while, but this is a war that is very much built around 155mm shells, and if you do not have those, you can’t really keep fighting it. Russia is producing a lot of shells, by the way. They are not going to run out. What we appear to be seeing now is that the ...

Biden Approves Cluster Bombs for the Ukraine, Pentagon Says War Crimes “Better Than a Russian Victory”

These cluster bombs being used in Iraq was a huge deal. I can remember it. It was an ongoing thing, talking about how every other country in the world banned these bombs, talking about how they are designed so that when you go to help someone who was bombed, you get bombed, and how they blow up kids. Their use was considered a war crime by all sorts of different organizations. It sort of hilarious they’re sending them to the Ukraine. Sending anything to the Ukraine is idiotic, acting like “well, everything failed, but this will work.” But sending these banned, hated bombs – it really looks like the US is purposefully trying to destroy its image on the world stage. ...

By Patrick Lawrence / Original to ScheerPost Let us consider the following paragraphs, which appear in the May 29 edition of The New Yorker: While Tynda and his team were fighting from the trench, long and powerful fusillades had issued from another Ukrainian position, on a hilltop behind them. I later went there with Tynda. In a blind overlooking the no man’s land stood an improbably antique contraption on iron wheels: a Maxim gun, the first fully automatic weapon ever made. Although this particular model dated from 1945, it was virtually identical ...

I'm under fire. Probably nothing like you were in the Philippines after you were dragged out of high school. I understand why you didn't like the Independence Day fireworks now. I spent a lot of time in or near combat zones, nothing like you were though. I'm pretty fucked up, but the largest number of causalities, outside of Beirut in '83, has been from an attack within the US because of a "bug" and the solution. I lost a lot of close people to me. I'm walking alone, now, Dad. I love you.

Kiev Basically Admits Failure in “Counteroffensive,” But Promises “There Will be So Many Counteroffensives”

Yesterday, the American media started admitting that the ongoing Ukrainian spring counteroffensive is not really going very well. On Wednesday, Zelensky had also said that the results were very bad, choosing to use the phrase “slower than desired.” At the same time, Putin had announced that the entire thing had stopped. However, as recently as Wednesday, the media was also printing headlines saying the Ukraine is on the verge of taking Crimea. Click for Full Text!

Putin Says Hohols Have Ceased Major “Offensive” Operations, Realize They are Doomed Pups

I don’t think Putin would announce this unless it was actually happening. The hohols are falling back. RT: Ukraine has stopped major offensive operations after realizing its forces could not win, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday. “Thanks to the courage and heroism of our soldiers and the readiness of commanders to repulse any aggressive actions against Russia, it seems to me that the enemy has no chance. They understand this, which is why they stopped,” Putin told journalist Pavel Zarubin at the Kremlin. The Ukrainian military launched its long-heralded offensive on June 4, using several brigades trained in the West and equipped with Leopard tanks and ...

Scott Ritter: Ukrainian Counteroffensive’s Second Week Ends in Failure

Operation enters the second week of Ukraine’s long-awaited and highly touted counteroffensive, some basic conclusions can be drawn even though the fighting continues, and will continue to rage, for some time to come. First and foremost, the counteroffensive gambit has failed. While there is still considerable combat strength left in the Ukrainian military, including more than 75% of the NATO-trained and -equipped 60,000-strong cohort Ukraine had assembled in the past eight months, fundamentally flawed assumptions about the quality of the force on which Ukraine and its NATO allies had placed their collective hopes for victory over Russia have been exposed. In short, Ukraine lacks the ...
