PressTV... Australia has suspended its cooperation with a United States-led coalition in Syria out of apparent concern that the US’s recent downing of a Syrian fighter jet may escalate the situation in the Arab country to its disadvantage. “As a precautionary measure, Australian Defence Force (ADF) strike operations into Syria have temporarily ceased,” an ADF spokeswoman said in a statement on Tuesday. No reason was given for the suspension, but The Australian newspaper said it was implemented as a precaution after the Syrian jet’s downing. “ADF personnel are closely monitoring the air situation in Syria and a decision on the resumption of ADF air operations in ...

Moscow sends a crystal-clear message to Washington: The games in Syria are over The S-400s are ready The S-400s are ready We didn't believe it at first, but it's true: Russia's Defense Ministry says it will target any aircraft from the US-led coalition flying west of the Euphrates. “In the areas of combat missions of Russian air fleet in Syrian skies, any airborne objects, including aircraft and unmanned vehicles of the [US-led] international coalition, located to the west of the Euphrates River, will be tracked by Russian ground and air defense forces as air targets,” the Russian Ministry of Defense stated. The announcement comes after the US shot down a Syrian ...

Facing the Human Wreckage of War

An alternative WWII history invokes 'moral injury' in context of Pacific War. It’s been more than 15 years since the start of the Afghanistan War and already the horrors of the ground combat there and in Iraq appear at an increasingly “safe” distance in the American psyche. Sure, on sanctioned holidays and Marine Corps Marathons the visage of the wounded warrior is wheeled—or with advanced prosthetics, marched—out to serve as a sanitized reminder. But the really dark stuff, what they did and what they’ve seen, not to mention the consequent suicides, the often irrevocable psychological damage, are receding into the past—somewhere between ...

Zakharova Concerned US Unaware of Abstract Concept Known as 'Military Strategy'

Russia's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has some constructive criticism for the Pentagon The United States is FedExing 4,000 more troops to Afghanistan, because if there's one thing that the last fifteen years of occupation has shown, it's that US troops and Afghanistan go together like peas and carrots. It would be easy for an armchair warrior to criticize Washington's strategy in Afghanistan, except there is no strategy—meaning there's nothing to criticize. As Russia's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova correctly pointed out during a Moscow press briefing earlier this week, "[The US has] no strategy and no concept, but they ...

Thank You for Your Killing

One of the most interesting bromides to enter the American political lexicon after the 9/11 attacks has been the line that Americans have been taught to say to American soldiers: “Thank you for your service.” Yet, hardly anyone ever makes a critical examination of what exactly the “service” for which they are expressing gratitude actually consists. It’s just automatically assumed that the service consists of “defending our country” or “protecting our rights and freedom.” My hunch is that when the bromide is expressed, most people have in mind Iraq and Afghanistan. That’s because oftentimes the bromide is accompanied by a reference to the ...

Syrian Army Boxing in US Forces in Southern Syria Came as a Shock -- Defense Secretary Mattis

RI... The Pentagon was taken aback by how suddenly and quickly it was presented with a fait accompli east of al-Tanf When last Friday Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Syrian forces had broken through to the Iraqi border and enveloped the US forces in southern Syria this came as a shock to us here at RI. Not because this was some move nobody could see coming. Anyone who can read a map could see that a Syrian advance to the east of US positions at al-Tanf base would effectively neutralize it. I spelled out as much a week before the Syrian offensive took place: The obvious play for the Russian-backed Syrians is to neutralize Americans at al-Tanf by giving their base a 55 ...

Terrorism supporters in Washington and Riyadh close ranks against Qatar The United States has been using lies to go to war since 1846, when Americans who believed in manifest destiny sought to expand to the Pacific Ocean at the expense of Mexico, acquiring by force of arms California and what were to become the southwestern states. In 1898 the U.S. picked up the pieces of a dying Spanish Empire in a war that was driven by American imperialists and the yellow dog reporting of the Hearst Newspaper chain. And then came World War 1, World War 2, and Korea, all avoidable and all enabled by deliberate lying coming out of Washington. More recently, we have seen Vietnam with its Gulf of Tonkin ...

The Sordid History Of State Sponsored Terrorism Against Iran

For decades, Western empires have waged a silent war against Iran, using tactics ranging from supporting known terrorist groups to deposing the country’s leaders and leveraging regional rivalries. The war continues today, even as the U.S. condemns Iran for sponsoring terrorism itself. The Sordid History Of State Sponsored Terrorism Against Iran People gather around a car as it is removed by a mobile crane in Tehran, Iran, Jan. 11, 2012. Two assailants on a motorcycle attached magnetic bombs to the car of an Iranian university professor working at a key nuclear facility, killing him and wounding two people. The assassination was later confirmed to be a joint effort by the MEK and ...

US Aggression Against Syrian Forces by Stephen Lendman For the third time since its April 7 attack on Syria’s Shayrat airbase, US-led coalition warplanes preemptively and aggressively struck pro-government forces. Tuesday’s incident occurred within what CENTCOM called a “deconfliction” zone. At least two soldiers were killed, more than 15 others injured. Following the May 18 US-led attack on government and allied forces in southern Syria near the Iraqi and Jordanian borders, killing six military personnel, wounding others, Sergey Lavrov called the incident an illegal violation of Syrian sovereignty. He made similar comments after Tuesday’s incident, calling it ...

Shifting The Blame For Terrorism

Brzezinski’s death is being used to shift blame for terrorism from Bush/Blair/Neocons/Israel to Brzezinski. America’s War on Syria by Stephen Lendman Trump escalated what Obama began after opposing US interventionism while campaigning. Endless war continues. Battles rage in many parts of the country, despite government and allied forces making significant gains, retaking numerous areas previously lost to US-supported terrorists. On Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned about further CW incidents falsely blamed on Damascus, explaining Turkey supplied ISIS and al-Nusra terrorists with toxic sarin gas. More CW attacks are likely. Russia continues going all-out for diplomatic conflict resolution - its four de-escalation zones a prototype for hopefully expanding them nationwide. ...

Escalated US War on Syria Likely by Stephen Lendman In March 2011, Obama launched war on Syria, using ISIS, al-Nusra and other terrorists as imperial foot soldiers. The aim then and now is destroying Syrian sovereignty, ousting Assad, replacing him with a pro- Western puppet, eliminating an Israeli rival, isolating Iran ahead of a similar scheme against its government, and claiming another US imperial trophy. That’s what the war is all about, orchestrated by Hillary Clinton as secretary of state. There’s nothing civil about it - one of many Big Lies about what’s going on. Russia’s good faith efforts to resolve things diplomatically are consistently undermined by ...

ISIS in the Philippines by Stephen Lendman In response to violence instigated by ISIS in the Philippines, President Rodrigo Duterte declared martial law in Mindanao, imposed military rule, and threatened to extend it nationwide to defeat the threat. What’s going on? Why did ISIS begin operating in the Philippines? Weeks after taking office in mid- 2016, Duterte blasted Western imperial Middle East policies, saying the Obama administration and Britain “destroyed the (region)…forc(ing) their way into Iraq and kill(ing) Saddam.” “Look at Iraq now. Look what happened to Libya. Look what happened to Syria.” He blasted former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for ...

US Increasing Combat Strength in Southern Syria by Stephen Lendman According to Western media reports, US-led coalition forces consider encroachment by Syrian and allied forces toward the Al-Tanf border crossing on the strategically important Damascus highway to Baghdad a threat to their presence - where they’re operating illegally. Combined Joint Task Force/US CENTCOM spokesman Col. Ryan Dillon said “(w)e have increased our presence and our footprint and are prepared for any threat that is presented by the pro-regime forces.” The area he referred to is within a Russian-established de-escalation zone. Washington, its rogue allies and terrorist foot soldiers disregard it, ...

Haven’t We Had Enough of Afghanistan?

The forever war continues Will there ever be an end to the war in Afghanistan? Apparently not if our generals have anything to say about it – and they do. President Trump has turned over the prosecution of our perpetual “war on terrorism” to the Pentagon, claiming that they’ve been held back by previous administrations. The new policy is to turn them loose. We saw what this means when the so-called “Mother of All Bombs” was dropped in a remote location where ISIS was said to be hiding: 92 “militants” were said to have been killed. Contrary to the triumphalist reports in US media, the biggest non-nuclear bomb ever deployed in combat had a minimal ...

Musings on Mad-Dog Mattis and “Military Necessity” When President-elect Donald Trump sent his talent scouts to the attack-dog kennel run by defense industry giant General Dynamics, in order to recruit former Marine General James “Mad Dog” Mattis to be secretary of defense, cries of apprehension were drowned out by smug one-percent reassurances. Those who “know what’s best for the country” insisted: “NOT TO WORRY; actually Mattis is a Renaissance Man. Yes, he thinks, and says, it’s fun to shoot people. But after taking a hot shower in the evening, he reads Greek epic poetry. Syria Last Sunday, Mattis told CBS it’s gonna be more fun ...

US Arms Pouring Into Syria

US Arms Pouring Into Syria by Stephen Lendman Washington’s goal is fueling and continuing conflict, not ending it. Arms and munitions for Kurdish YPG fighters and terrorists comprising the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces began arriving months earlier, more continuing to come. Much of what’s supplied ends up in the hands of ISIS, al-Nusra and other terrorist groups. Washington’s aim is toppling Assad, destroying Syrian sovereignty, achieving another imperial trophy, no matter the human cost. America’s Accountability Office reported at least $1 billion worth of arms deliveries to Syria and Iraq are unaccountable. Numerous airdrops supply terrorist fighters. ...

Manchester, Berlin, Paris, Nice, London, New York: Passports and IDs Mysteriously Discovered in the Wake of Terror Attacks

This article reviews the “mysterious” phenomenon of IDs and Passports of terror suspects routinely discovered (often in the rubble) in the wake of a terrorist attack. In most cases the alleged suspect was known to the authorities. Is there a pattern? The ID papers of the suspect are often left behind, discovered by police in the wake of a terrorist attack. According to government and media reports, the suspects are without exception linked to an Al Qaeda affiliated entity. None of these terror suspects survived. Dead men do not talk. In the case of the tragic events in Manchester, the bankcard of the alleged suicide bomber Salman Abedi was found in his pocket in the wake of ...

South Front... The US-led coalition warplanes dropped warning leaflets on the Al-Tanf road after Syrian Arab Army (SAA) advanced to the Shehmi area, 55 km from Al-Tanf town. The leaflets warned the SAA from continuing its advance and asked it to withdraw to the Zaza Triangle. They also included sectarian expressions, according to local sources. According to the Syrian TV, the SAA managed to advance in the vicinity of the Scientific Research area in the eastern desert in the Suweida countryside. The SAA also repelled an attack of the US-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) in the same area. The US-led forces used Switchblade suicide drones again, and also targeted the SAA positions with Grad ...

Memorial Day Ignores the Horrors of Endless US Aggression by Stephen Lendman Deplorable US history is belligerent, ruthless, immoral, defiant of rule of law principles and democratic values while feigning high-mindedness. America glorifies wars and violence in the name of peace, perpetually at war with invented enemies, pacifism considered unpatriotic, civil and human rights obstacles to its imperial aims. Neocon/CIA-connected Washington Post editors deplorably blustered “(t)oday, let us remember those who acted selflessly. THEY DIED for you.” They died in vain, lives wasted, sent to battle on false pretenses - in pursuit of US imperial aims for unchallenged global dominance, ...

Libya: A US-Created Terrorist Haven by Stephen Lendman US-led NATO aggression on Libya raped and destroyed its sovereign independence - one of history’s great crimes. Africa’s developed nation was transformed into a cauldron of failed state, terrorist-infested violence, chaos, deep poverty, mass unemployment, and devastating human misery. Libya was Obama’s war, launched in 2011, orchestrated by Hillary Clinton. Her remark after hearing of Muammar Gaddafi’s death, saying “(w)e came, we saw, he died” alone will long define her pure evil. Claiming Washington’s aim was humanitarian intervention to establish democratic governance was pure subterfuge, the ...

Syria Calls on UN to Halt US-Led Terror-Bombing by Stephen Lendman Since September 2014, US-led coalition warplanes have been terror-bombing Syrian infrastructure, government sites, and at least twice striking its military - on the phony pretext of combating ISIS. Thousands of civilians in harm’s way were massacred, more killed virtually daily, media scoundrels ignoring the carnage. Numerous previous Damascus Foreign Ministry letters sent to UN authorities fell on deaf ears - the latest in response to US-led coalition warplanes terror-bombing al-Mayadeen city in the Deir Ezzor countryside, massacring dozens of civilians, including women and children, injuring many more - a high ...
