How Can Greens Make Themselves Less White? By NAOMI SCHAEFER RILEY A few days after Barack Obama's inauguration, the newly appointed head of the Environmental Protection Agency, Lisa Jackson, gave an interview to Essence magazine. Ms. Jackson explained that she planned to "elevate the issue" of "environmental justice" during her tenure. For those who are unfamiliar with the term, environmental justice is the sweet spot where the green movement meets the racial grievance industry. As the Essence interviewer put it: "The practice of locating polluting industries in minority communities -- and the consequent health impacts -- is well documented. African Americans ...

By MATTHEW LEE, Associated Press Writer – 2 hrs 26 mins ago WASHINGTON – The Obama administration will endorse a U.N. declaration calling for the worldwide decriminalization of homosexuality that then-President George W. Bush had refused to sign, The Associated Press has learned. U.S. officials said Tuesday they had notified the declaration's French sponsors that the administration wants to be added as a supporter. The Bush administration was criticized in December when it was the only western government that refused to sign on. The move was made after an interagency review of the Bush administration's position on the nonbinding document, which was signed by all 27 ...

Strange times we live in when it takes a ballot initiative to confirm the definition of marriage as the union of a man and a woman. Stranger still when endorsing that definition through the democratic process brings threats and reprisals. In November, the San Francisco Chronicle published the names and home addresses of everyone who donated money in support of California's Proposition 8 marriage initiative. All available information, plus the amount donated, was broadcast. My name is on that list. Emails started coming. Heavy with epithets and ad hominems, most in the you-disgust-me vein. Several accused me, personally, of denying the sender his single chance at happiness after a life ...

Judge in "Kids for Cash" Scandal Gets Seven Years

Hillary Transue was 14 when she carried out her prank. She built a hoax MySpace page in which she posed as the vice-principal of her school, poking fun at her strictness. At the bottom of the page she added a disclaimer just to make sure everyone knew it was a joke. "When you find this I hope you have a sense of humour," she wrote. Humour is not in abundance, it seems, in Luzerne County, northern Pennsylvania. In January 2007 Transue was charged with harassment. She was called before the juvenile court in Wilkes-Barre, an old coal town about 20 miles from her home. Less than a minute into the hearing the gavel came down. "Adjudicated delinquent!" the judge ...

The "Obama Bear Market" and Why He Triggered It

On the last day of the ill-fated Bush Administration, the Dow Jones average stood at 8,281, down catastrophically from its 2007 peak—yet still almost 25 percent higher than the Dow’s close on Friday, March 6, 2009 of 6,627. You might think that George W. Bush would be an easy act to follow. After all, he was inept enough to overlook the basic rule of politics that kept the Bush family’s friends in Mexico’s PRI party in power for so many years: Make sure the economic collapse happens right after the election, not right before. And yet, what is now technically the "Obama Bear Market" shows that Obama may be down to the challenge of being Bush’s successor. ...

Rules for Radicalism

Rules for Radicals In 1971, Saul Alinsky wrote an entertaining classic on grassroots organizing titled Rules for Radicals. Those who prefer cooperative tactics describe the book as out-of-date. Nevertheless, it provides some of the best advice on confrontational tactics. Alinsky begins this way: What follows is for those who want to change the world from what it is to what they believe it should be. The Prince was written by Machiavelli for the Haves on how to hold power. Rules for Radicals is written for the Have-Nots on how to take it away. His “rules” derive from many successful campaigns where he helped poor people fighting power and privilege For Alinsky, organizing is ...

The Hatred Inherent in All Leftists

My last semester in college, I was doing an internship at the student newspaper, since my degree was in Journalism. Two of the other students were leftists, and all leftists, not right in the head. One of them, a 20-year-old girl, once pompously and self-righteously declared, "All men should have a baby." I smiled at that, since she'd never had a baby. So I answered her, "Yes, and every woman shold get hit in the balls," The room erupted in laughter, and she had no answer. She also never forgave me, and never spoke to me again. The other leftist, a 21-year-old guy, was one time looking at a map of the world and muttering about how the English had no business in ...

Lewisville neighbors battle over backyard wild game butchering

LEWISVILLE – Do good hunters make good neighbors? Charlene Hlatky thinks not. For several years, she and her husband, Frank, have been embroiled in a dispute with Santos Garcia, whose backyard on Boxwood Drive abuts theirs on Azalia Drive. Mr. Garcia is a lifelong hunter who has bagged as many as three deer in a season. He typically brings the carcasses back to his house and processes them in his backyard. The Hlatkys then call the police. "We just wish people would respect us like we respect them," Charlene Hlatky said. "We don't go and slaughter a cow on our property where people can see it. Nobody has any consideration anymore." As recently as last week, ...

Ozarkopathy (O-zark-OP-athee) is a neologism that means "sickness of the Ozarks" and refers to the extreme social pathology of the Ozark Mountain Region. This pathology includes bigotry, fraud, drugs, violence, and corruption. Unfortunately, this pathology is not well-known and catches many people by surprise. The purpose of this website is to publicize the dangers of the Ozarks and the plight of its victims. Ozarkopathy.org was written and created by Jeff Biener and Mary Meriam, who bought a house in the Missouri Ozarks in 1994. As a result of this transaction, they became victims of real estate fraud, insurance fraud, bank fraud, forgery, legal malpractice, drug trafficking, ...

I had about a dozen music videos I had made posted at YouTube. When I checked yesterday four of them had been pulled, not because the artists complained, but because the music companies claimed they owned the music. I was able to find all four posted on other sites and downloaded them to my computer, because I couldn't do it at YouTube, being I was locked out of my own videos! The music companies are desperate and I hope on their way out.

The ethical hedonism trend is growing. Eco-sex is hot -- and you can be, too -- by converging sexiness, style and ecological sustainability. Environmental activist group Greenpeace says "you can be a bomb in bed without nuking the planet" and has released a Guide to Environmentally-Friendly Sex to that lists strategies for "getting it on for the good of the planet." TreeHugger, an Ontario-based online magazine, has also published a How to Green Your Sex Life ...

John McCain's presidential-campaign office in Pueblo. Under investigation is Jeffrey Claude Bartleson, 52, who was arrested Jan. 29 and then re-arrested Wednesday after a campaign worker in the McCain office told police she believed Bartleson molested one of her sons. WASHINGTON (AP) - Despite the tax problems faced by high-level nominees, and the exceptions made to the no-lobbyists pledge, President Barack Obama's spokesman is defending the administration's ethical standards. Robert Gibbs told reporters Tuesday, "The bar that we set is the highest that any administration in the country has ever set." During a briefing filled with questions about Tom Daschle's decision to withdraw from consideration to be Health and Human Services secretary, Gibbs pointed to experts who describe the administration's ethics rules as the strongest in history. He also said those experts recognized that Obama would need to make exceptions to his ...

Banks, home builders, and auto manufacturers are not the only ones going belly-up these days. If we may credit Louis Uchitelle's January 7 report in the New York Times, mainstream economists have, in effect, declared their intellectual bankruptcy. According to Uchitelle, Frightened by the recession and the credit crisis that produced it, the nation's mainstream economists are embracing public spending to repair the damage – even those who have long resisted a significant government role in a market system. . . . Hundreds of economists who gathered here [in San Francisco] for the annual meeting of the American Economic Association seemed to acknowledge that a profound shift had ...
