Conspiracy Theories are a form of Helplessness

Making a public statement seldom heard in the Arab world, two Egyptian intellectuals in both government and opposition papers strongly criticize the common misperception among the Egyptian cultural and political elite that events are driven by conspiracies. In no uncertain terms, they describe the tendency to blame Israel for Arab failuresas an "evasion of reality," and the creation and endorsement of conspiracy theories[1] to explain every event as "leading to helplessness, passivity, surrender and suicide." Conspiracy Theories are a form of Helplessness In a November 18, 1999 article in the Egyptian weekly, Al-Ahram Al-Arabi, which is affiliated with the government, ...

Outsourcing Nirvana - ineptitude made in the u.s.a.

It goes like this: Someone does a study that concludes that every outsourced IT worker saves the company $40,000. The corporate office decrees that at least 50% of all headcounts are to be eventually 'offshored' to low-cost countries (read India). They also demand that $4 million is to be saved right away. 100 US workers are promptly fired and 100 offshored Indians are expected to replace them. Given that the Indians can't do sh_t from Bangalore, work is made for them. For those unfamiliar with how offshored headcounts work, it's like this: they won't do a thing unless it's on a 'script' and they won't deviate one iota from that script. Given this, ...

Wearing Tinfoil Conspiracy Hats

Wait, hold on, let me get my Tinfoil Hat! (And if you want to understand the theory behind Tinfoil Hats, and how to construct one, cast an eyeball upon Lyle Zapato's book, Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanie: Practical Mind Control Protection for Paranoids). Conspiracy theories have been around since, well, the beginning of the human race. They are a constant with people, so they must fulfill a deep-seated need. If you need proof of the imperfection of humanity, there it is. One of the funniest I've heard recently is that George Bush was behind 9-11. That one makes me chuckle. Here's a guy who's failed at every job given to him (on a silver platter yet), who spent his college ...

Cry Me TWO Rivers - what should be the fate of Iraqi Traitors?

CNN has this heart-breaking story of the thousands of Iraqi traitors who can't get US visas and are now distressed because the resistance is after them. The GI's interviewed say that all the 9000 or more Iraqi traitors and, presumably, their numerous families, should be granted US visas ASAP. I guess that's what America is about this days: rewarding treason. What is your verdict? Should they be allowed to settle in the US and therefore improve our national gene pools? Here are the choices: 1 - they should get US visas and a lifetime supply of food stamps. 2 - they should be given Israeli visas - be fed off the 2-billion dollar stipend Israel gets annually from the US 3 - they ...

My new web site is online. If anyone's interested is stuff from Ecuador, there are some nice things down here and we'll ship it to you. We'll be expanding our inventory in the near future so what we have is a pretty good start, thanks in part to a wood carver/artisan here who's let us feature his inventory. We can do alpaca clothing, Panama hats (All Panama hats come from Ecuador as they are named for where us Euro-gringos discovered them). The wool jackets are very nice -- heavy and warm, as are the wraps. The lobster carving is especially cool. Just about everything would be a very nice gift item. Anyway wish us luck and any questions, comments on improvements or things ...

I was thinking - maybe gonzales is going to resign, but is waiting until august. if so, bush could place a new ag by *emergency* appointment while congress is in recess. that would take him right up to january of 2009, the rest of his term, and avoid a battle with congress over whatever horror he wants to appoint next. just a thought.....

Bersa Thunder 380 auto pistol [need advice]

My Dad's new wife is about to get her CHP and was recommended the above pistol by the Holly Lake PD. If anyone has any advice on this double-action .380 I'd love to hear it. Personally, I'd recommend the Taurus SW9F 9mm, made by S&W. I have two although they require a shoulder holster and are 100% reliable with ANY ammo and both are pre-ban with 17 round clips. i'D ALSO RECOMMEND THE SMALLER tAURUS .38 Special hammerless 5 shot with a nice Pachmeyer grip. Poster Comment:Any recommendations. This is a 60 year old woman.

Scott Peterson, the man who was convicted of murdering his wife and unborn child, had been on Death Row barely an hour when the first proposal arrived from a woman who wants to be the new Mrs. Scott Peterson. Three dozen phone calls came in to the warden's office on Peterson's first day at his new home in San Quentin State Prison -- women were pleading for his mailing address, and one smitten 18-year-old said she wanted to marry him. As far as anyone knows, these women don't really know Peterson -- and unlike Laci Peterson, they certainly haven't spent any time with him, usually a requisite for getting married -- but, according to several experts on the world of the ...

The author* was once due to test a young lady who arrived at the clinic rather late, giving the impression of one who is distraught but bravely fighting back the tears. After sitting down, she requested time to compose herself because: "I feel a bit shaken. You see, I'm afraid something has just happened that rather upset me." After a show of decent reluctance, she then explained that she had caught her bus to the clinic in good time. Her lateness was due to the fact that, as she was about to alight, the conductor had brutally ravished her. The author agreed that this was conduct unbecoming to a municipal employee, and remarked that it was particularly unusual in ...

Man, Cheney just handed the election to Hillary

That letter Edelman (Gates' undersecretary and "former" Cheney henchman) sent to Clinton calling her a traitor for asking what Plan B is, since the surge is a flop, might very well have handed the nomination and presidency to Clinton. In my humble opinion. Clinton immediately responded that the real treason is not having a plan to keep the troops safe if the surge fails, and that Gates, Cheney et al are completely out of touch. This could very well make the anti-war left forget that Clinton basically supports the war and totally disarm Obama. Even the wingnuts on cable TV are conceding that Clinton hit this one out of the park, and it's the kind of gift that just keeps ...

Traffic Safety Programs Residents who live in neighborhoods that are perceived to have a speeding problem are eligible to participate in the Traffic Safety Program. The program requires that at least two adults from the neighborhood attend a radar training session with a police officer. Upon completion of the program, residents are eligible to borrow radar equipment to use in their neighborhood. Speed watchers report the license plates of speeding vehicles to the Division of Police. A courtesy letter is sent to the registered owner of the vehicle. The Traffic Safety Program also includes the use of an automated speed-monitoring trailer. Hey all. On Saturday my Aunt had a stroke. A very severe one. She was taken to a University Hospital where they did surgery to relieve the pressure in her brain. It wasn't enough, and at 5:30 yesterday they turned off life support functions, and she passed on to the next world. Not but two weeks before, my grandmother was diagnosed with terminal cancer, giving her 6 months to a year. This is why I haven't been posting a whole bunch, lots of weird stuff going on in the family. Thanks for reading.

Ok I'm having a running argument with someone over the use of mayonnaise on food. I'd like to run this unscientific poll just for the hell of it. Question #1: What is your preferred choice of condiment on a hamburger? A. Mayonnaise/thousand island B. Catsup/mustard Question #2: What is your preferred condiment on an artichoke? A. mayonnaise B. melted butter

Even 27% of the WND Freaks Favor Impeaching Bush

I saw this poll over on WND yesterday. WND had reported the recent poll that showed 45% Americans favored impeaching Bush and 54% favored impeaching Cheney. WND left out the 54% figure however - too embarassing I guess. Along with the article they offered their own poll to see if the WND and NewsMax crowd favored impeachment. The pupose was obvious - fool the less intelligent LP types into thinking there was still some strong support for Bush. But surprise - a large percentage of even these rabid Bush boosters now favor impeachment. Nobody likes Bush
