The Bankruptcy of Mainstream Economics Post Date: 2009-01-10 09:50:40 by Turtle

Banks, home builders, and auto manufacturers are not the only ones going belly-up these days. If we may credit Louis Uchitelle's January 7 report in the New York Times, mainstream economists have, in effect, declared their intellectual bankruptcy. According to Uchitelle, Frightened by the recession and the credit crisis that produced it, the nation's mainstream economists are embracing public spending to repair the damage even those who have long resisted a significant government role in a market system. . . . Hundreds of economists who gathered here [in San Francisco] for the annual meeting of the American Economic Association seemed to acknowledge that a profound shift had ...

Mr. Gore: Apology Accepted Post Date: 2009-01-04 13:00:54 by mirage

You are probably wondering whether President-elect Obama owes the world an apology for his actions regarding global warming. The answer is, not yet. There is one person, however, who does. You have probably guessed his name: Al Gore. Mr. Gore has stated, regarding climate change, that "the science is in." Well, he is absolutely right about that, except for one tiny thing. It is the biggest whopper ever sold to the public in the history of humankind. What is wrong with the statement? A brief list: 1. First, the expression "climate change" itself is a redundancy, and contains a lie. Climate has always changed, and always will. There has been no stable period of ...
GLOBALIST PAT ROBERTSON PUSHES SATANIST/SOCIALIST AGENDA Post Date: 2009-01-04 04:55:52 by noone222

Pat Robertson, founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network, announced at his staff's annual prayer retreat that God told him Americans would embrace socialism in 2009 "in order to relieve their pain" and that the economy would rebound under an Obama administration. "The Lord said the economy of your nation will recover," Robertson told a group assembled at Founders Inn on the campus of Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va., a university Robertson founded. Robertson said God also declared, "The steps taken will lead to a dramatic increase in the power of government. The people will welcome socialism in order to relieve their pain. Nothing will stand in the ...
A Trip to a Dog Auction Post Date: 2009-01-03 09:59:54 by Turtle

An Idyllic Setting For A Brutal Ritual ...And It's All About Money The southeast Missouri countryside is beautiful. The drive there covers miles of country road. Farms, tractors, cattle ponds abound. The scenery is breathtaking in Autumn. But if you drive up to that pretty little barn and part the weeds out back, you're likely to find something incredibly ugly. This is the view from the auction barn. Inside, while my partner registers to bid, I walk among the roughly 300 dogs in wire cages. Their fur is unkempt, their teeth are rotten or missing, they've lost eyes and a few have open wounds from ingrown chains or cage aggression incidents. Most just bear the scars. The worst ...
Turtle Has a Interesting Experience With a Credit Card Company Post Date: 2009-01-03 09:36:55 by Turtle

I acidentally missed a payment on a credit card. Washington Mutual, actually, which is one of those sleazy places that got a bailout and won't tell what they did with the money. I get a call on my cellphone and it's them. That mystified me. Only six people have my cell number, and WaMu is not one of them. So how did they get my number? Then it occured to me. I had called their automated system a few times to check on my account, and their system memorized my number. When I checked on the internet, people were claiming WaMu was reequesting permission to take money out of their checking accounts. They already had their checking account numbers and transit numbers. That's the ...

Police spokesman Jim Sughrue says his department has charged 40-year-old Cornelius Orlando Davis with two counts of sexual battery. Davis allegedly walked up to women in the stores and rubbed his genitals on them. The first time, it happened at the Brier Creek Wal-Mart store on Glennwood Avenue on May 30. The second time, it happened this past Wednesday at both the Wal-Mart and a Kohl's store on Alexander Promenade. Detectives say although the attacks did not involve bare skin, they're still considered sexual assaults. In the first incident, the victim was able to get out her cell phone and snap a picture of her attacker as he walked away. "That's pretty brave. I think ...

Thank "Best and Brightest" for Crisis Post Date: 2008-12-23 06:36:26 by Turtle

AN elderly neighbor of mine asks, "Have you noticed that the worst economic crisis of our lifetime was set off by people with the highest education? If they're all so smart, how come they're so dumb?" I hadn't thought of it that way, but he has a point. The meltdown began with the subprime-mortgage folly, when the political establishment pushed the real-estate industry and its bankers to grant mortgages to buyers who couldn't afford them. The chief architects of the disaster were the officers at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, urged on by politicians and monitored by negligent regulators. Here's a list of some of the main players and their academic credentials: ...

Mon, Dec 22, 2008 (10:27 p.m.) A former military adviser to President Bill Clinton and to Lt. Gov. John Garamendi pleaded guilty Monday to possessing child pornography on his computer. Wade Sanders, also a decorated Vietnam War veteran, admitted in federal court he had more than 600 sexual images of minors and a 21-minute sex video on his computer depicting prepubescent girls, according to the U.S. attorney's office. Sanders, 67, served as deputy assistant secretary of the Navy under President Clinton. He was also Garamendi's senior adviser for veterans and military affairs, and resigned the post one day after his Nov. 7 arrest, said Beth Willon, a spokeswoman for Garamendi. ...

DANA POINT Capo Beach Calvary Church's junior high ministry director was arrested at the church this morning on suspicion of having a "sexual relationship" with a teenage female enrolled in his program. Daniel J. Pedroza Jr., 28, of San Clemente will be charged with six felony counts, Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino said. "We received a child-abuse report from social services detailing that a minor female between the ages of 14 and 18 disclosed she had been engaged in a sexual relationship with her youth pastor," he said. Investigators arrested Pedroza at the Capistrano Beach church around 10:30 a.m. today. Im ...

Variations of this speech have been delivered to various AIA conferences including the 2000 Consevative University at American University Where does all this stuff that youve heard about this morning the victim feminism, the gay rights movement, the invented statistics, the rewritten history, the lies, the demands, all the rest of it where does it come from? For the first time in our history, Americans have to be fearful of what they say, of what they write, and of what they think. They have to be afraid of using the wrong word, a word denounced as offensive or insensitive, or racist, sexist, or homophobic. We have seen other countries, particularly in this century, ...
Chinese Businessman Executed for Ant-Breeding Scam Post Date: 2008-12-14 05:06:52 by Turtle

China has executed a businessman convicted of bilking thousands of investors out of $416 million in a bogus ant-breeding scheme, state media reported Thursday. The official Xinhua news agency said Wang Zhendong, who had been found guilty of fraud and sentenced to death in February 2007, was executed in Liaoning Province on Wednesday. Wang, chairman of Yingkou Donghua Trading Group, had promised returns of up to 60 percent for investors who purchased ant-breeding kits from two companies he ran. Ants are used in some traditional Chinese medicinal remedies, which can fetch a high price. Wang sold the kits, which cost $25, for $1,300, the local news media reported earlier. Wang attracted ...

The Secret Teachings of Ayn Rand Post Date: 2008-12-11 20:10:53 by Turtle

People occasionally ask me, "If you're a libertarian, why do you dislike so much of Ayn Rand's writings?" This is a valid question, since she has had such influence on libertarianism (in my opinion, very much an excessive and not altogether a positive one). I answer, "It's because of her secret teachings." This usually piques their interest. I have to start with the myth of the Garden of Eden to explain why I have such a low opinion of Rand's philosophy. In it, when God catches Adam and Eve breaking the rules, Adam points his finger at Eve and says, "She made me do it!" Eve points her finger at the serpent and says, "Well, he's the one ...

The multiple failures that beset the country, from our mismanaged economy to our shredded constitutional rights to our lack of universal health care to our imperial debacles in the Middle East, can be laid at the feet of our elite universities. Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Stanford, along with most other elite schools, do a poor job educating students to think. They focus instead, through the filter of standardized tests, enrichment activities, advanced placement classes, high-priced tutors, swanky private schools and blind deference to all authority, on creating hordes of competent systems managers. The collapse of the country runs in a direct line from the manicured quadrangles and halls ...

The mother of a Wisconsin teenager was stunned when her high school senior brought home a questionnaire assigned by his English teacher that asked, among several provocative questions, "Is it possible that your heterosexuality stems from a neurotic fear of others of the same sex?" The mother, Marilyn Hanson, reviewed the questionnaire and thought it completely inappropriate for any class, but especially for a required English class, where, Hanson told WND, "They should be taught to read and write and prepare for college." "I really believe this was outright indoctrination to the homosexual viewpoint," Hanson said. "I could see this being discussed in a ...

MINNEAPOLIS Idaho Sen. Larry Craig has lost his latest attempt to withdraw his guilty plea in the Minneapolis airport men's room sex sting that effectively ended his Senate career. A three-judge panel of the Minnesota Court of Appeals on Tuesday rejected the Republican's bid to toss out his disorderly conduct conviction. Craig still has the option of appealing to the Minnesota Supreme Court, and he said Tuesday he was considering future options. Craig was arrested June 11, 2007, by an undercover police officer who was conducting a sting operation against men cruising for gay sex at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. He quietly pleaded guilty to the ...

A Madison County grand jury has cleared a Pontoon Beach police officer who shot an off-duty St. Louis police officer outside a bar last month. The jury also indicted a former St. Louis police officer in connection with the same incident. The grand jury ruled that the Pontoon Beach officer's action was justified. Bryan Pour, 25, was indicted on one count of aggravated battery with a firearm for shooting Granite City resident Jeffrey Bladdick, 25, on Nov. 9 outside Mac and Micks sports bar. The charge is a Class X felony and carries a penalty of up to 30 years in prison, prosecutors said in a release. Witnesses told police that Bladdick tried to break up a fight outside the bar ...

I decided many years ago I'm not excessively endowed with brainpower. I can't sing or dance, either, unless you want to count my imitation of Peter Boyle's Monster performing "Puttin' on the Ritz" in Young Frankenstein. My lack of genius is why I envy The Brain (of Pinky and the Brain fame). Although, I'm proud to admit, my head, as a child, was shaped like a lightbulb, just like The Brain's. Being simple-minded, I seek simple rules. After putting in my time in public schools and college, I realized I had mostly been miseducated (except for a few classes, all of which I can count on one hand, excluding my thumb), and decided I had better find some basics. ...
