Election Day

Right after work today I headed to the polling station to cast my vote against Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogshit. I was impressed by the effort put into making voting easy, last time I tried, in 2020, there was a line snaking through a city park with a wait of least four hours. I voted last year using mail-in, claiming handicap which was mostly true. I can't camp in line for four hours, but no one should be expected to. Anyway, today, I showed up at Saint Mark Presbyterian, there were a couple idiots with ID issues at the table, so I stood about three feet away from the table, thinking it polite. I was there about about two minutes, before some Mexican bitch rushes the table, like a ...

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me. And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter. I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells And run my stick along the public railings And make up for the sobriety of my youth. I shall go out in my slippers in the rain And pick the flowers in other people’s gardens And learn to spit. You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat And eat three pounds of sausages at a go Or only bread and pickle for a week And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and ...

The Poetry of Edgar Allan Poe

Originally published in The Sewanee Review, Spring, 1968, Vol. 76, No. 2 (Spring, 1968), pp. 214-225 In 1948 T. S. Eliot, in a lecture “From Poe to Valery”, said in substance that Poe’s work, if it is to be judged fairly, must be seen as a whole, lest as the mere sum of its parts it seem inferior. There is much truth in this; but it puts an unusual strain upon the critic. I believe that I have read, over many years, everything that Poe wrote, but I have never been aware of it all at any one time; nor am I now, as I approach a discussion of the poems. Do the poems increase or diminish one’s sense of Poe’s greatness if considered apart from the prose, as if the prose ...

Bill D Berger Endorses Donald J. Trump for Re-election as President of The United States

I can't say that I agree with everything the president has done since 2016. Over those years there have been some things I wasn't supportive of. My political views are conservative/libertarian...much in the same way Ronald Reagan's were: “If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals. If we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual ...

I had an opportunity to buy stock at 15% discount through Employee Stock Purchase Plan, and since I had already created an E-trade account, I decided to let loose of $2000 and open an individual account. It's still just sitting there now, hasn't cleared the EFT, but I had what I thought were some damned good idea, looking for feedback. I've been checking Yahoo Finance every day looking for Biggest Loosers. But cheap and wait for it to go up is my thinking. I know, hindsight is 20/20, but all of these fit in with my thinking Lazydays Holdings, Inc. (LAZY) - could have bought at $9.66 on July 14, worth $15.31 today. They make RVs/Campers - people are going to get tired of ...

Meet the Clampett clan - There's Jed; the kind and intelligent patriarch (although lacking formal education) turned into an overnight millionaire through a stroke of luck. While he appears to be in a state of retirement, he is still frequently kept busy by trying to keep his family out of trouble and make peace with his neighbors. Then there is Granny; the matriarch of the clan who is mature, highly opinionated, paranoid of new-fangled ways and things. She considers herself to be highly educated (a self proclaimed Doctor of Hillbilly Medicine) and has difficulty understanding why anyone doubts her wisdom. Then there is Elly May; beauiful, but awkwardly naive. Apparently in her late ...

Demi Moore Lets Her Guard Down Dave Itzkoff 5 days ago LOS ANGELES — A few days after I visited Demi Moore in her home high above Beverly Hills, her daughter Tallulah Willis told me, “My mom was not raised, she was forged.” © Ramona Rosales for The New York Times “There’s nothing I have to protect,” Demi Moore said of the candid depiction of her life and career in her book. But the woman who greeted me from atop a staircase, in the boxy residence she calls her “peaceful Zen treehouse,” and asked if I was chilly or needed a jacket, was not the steely star whose movies, like “St. Elmo’s Fire,” “Ghost” and “A Few ...

Then an eccentric looking man said, Speak to us of Art. And he said: It might as easily be said that man could live without Art as that man could live without water. Look upon the innocent scribblings of little children. Doubt not that each of us emerged from the womb an artist. Art is freedom. That which is called Art, yet is made subservient to commerce is not Art. That which is called Art, yet is made subservient to a Nation or State is not Art. That which is called Art, yet is hanging in the Museum of Modern Art is not Art. That crap my six year old son could do, the Master explained. David Duchovny Addresses if 'The X-Files' Will Return By Patrick Cavanaugh - February 22, 2019 Last year's The X-Files revival season was billed as its final season, largely due to Gillian Anderson revealing that she was done playing Dana Scully. Her co-star David Duchovny recently revealed that he's still in the dark about whether the series has any sort of future. "It seems like it was set up, like most television shows," Duchovny shared with This Morning when asked about the open-ended nature of the series finale. "I know nothing. I could lie to you and make it up." Click for Full Text!

Four Books That Will Turn You Into A Practical Thinker

Life is complicated. And I find it fascinating that people tend to make it even more complicated by not thinking practically. One of the things that we never think about is the way we think. We waste a lot of time trying to solve problems that are not even problems. Have you ever considered that? For instance, one of the questions that I get asked often is: “I don’t know how to distribute my time. There are a lot of things I want to do in life. What’s the best way to do everything?” I think: Why do you even want to do everything? By wanting that, you’re fabricating a problem. From a practical point of view, you can only do a few things with your time, and ...

The Complete True Story Behind “American Pie” by Don McLean One of the most controversial yet successful songs of the 20th century, “American Pie” was written and performed by Don McLean and was released in 1971. The elegiac composition of the song has become a staple of the American music, and as the decades passed, multiple interpretations have been given to the lyrics. Three decades later, “American Pie” remains one of the most debated and dissected songs in the history of popular music. Singer-songwriter Don McLean poses for a portrait in June 1970. Madeleine Albright: ‘The things that are happening are genuinely, seriously bad’

Observer Madeleine Albright has both made and lived a lot of history. When she talks about a resurgence of fascism, she says it as someone who was born into the age of dictators. She was a small girl when her family fled Czechoslovakia after the Nazis consumed the country in 1939. After 10 days in hiding, her parents escaped Prague for Britain and found refuge in Notting Hill Gate, “before it was fancy”, in an apartment which backed on to Portobello Road. Her first memories of life in London are of disorientation. “I didn’t have a clue. My parents were very continental European and I didn’t have siblings early on. I felt isolated.” As Hitler unleashed the ...

PressTV... Over 100 intellectuals in Sweden have formed a new prize-awarding body to protest the sexual scandal that plagued the Swedish Academy, which awards the Nobel Literature Prize. The New Academy, whose members include authors, artists and journalist, announced that the alternative honor will serve to censure “bias, arrogance and sexism.” The original academy was plunged into crisis over its long-running ties to a French individual accused of sexually assaulting several women. It is intended to "remind people that literature and culture at large should promote democracy, transparency, empathy and respect, without privilege," a joint statement written by the 107 ...
