Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who is expected to request 30,000 to 40,000 additional troops, met with Joint Chiefs Chairman Mike Mullen at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, FOX News has confirmed.

Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, received the widely anticipated troop request Friday from the top commander in Afghanistan, aides told FOX News.

Mullen, accompanied by Gen. David Petraeus and other top military officials, met at Ramstein Air Base in Germany with Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who is expected to ask for 30,000 to 40,000 additional troops. Mullen is now headed back to the U.S., FOX News has confirmed.

Mullen asked McChrystal for the meeting earlier in the week following the leak of McChrystal's strategic assessment to hear directly from his commander what resources and how many troops he will need to succeed in Afghanistan, aides told FOX News.

"He wanted to understand the request for himself before it arrives in Washington and he is asked to discuss, defend it," an aide told FOX News.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates is expected to receive the troop request Friday. But Gates will hold onto the request until the White House and Pentagon get to a "proper stage" in their assessment of the war in Afghanistan, a Pentagon spokesman said earlier this week, explaining that it is premature for the request to be considered until the assessment is fully reviewed.

Mullen hand-picked McChrystal to lead the fight in Afghanistan after firing Gen. David McKiernan in May.

This is akin to a thief stealing your silver ware as you feast.

All of this is totally meaningless to Americans. One has only to check the postings here on 4um to see the TOTAL DISINTEREST.

Five more died yesterday, that is five American families devastated for nothing, for a lifetime. I grow tired of this..."they volunteered bullshit"...

When they start hauling these disinterested Americans off to die in yet another endless war, we will hear endless weeping and wailing, not my son, not my Grandchildren...find yet another "volunteer", if he dies so what, not my son.

Human selfishness at its extreme. We are now going to send another four infantry divisions over into that quagmire, not a problem as long as it is not ME....

I certainly don't feel that way, nor do I believe that most others here do.

This activity, because I refuse to call it war when it is not, is an affront to Almighty God Himself and we will be held to account for it sooner, or later.

You I would agree, most others, no. I have seen and read far too many, "they volunteered", for far too long. The last thread about this affair drew a grand total of...ONE...post. One.

Many here and in the overall population lack the ability to understand, draft or no draft, these kids that are dying now...WOULD BE THE FIRST TO GO IN A DRAFT...because as some here speak direct, they are not to bright, etc etc.

I have grown tired and weary of all that.

Bitter olde man. Just tired olde man that lived thru three horrible wars and saw people at their worst....TAKE HIM...not me.

It has always been and will forever be that we of the bottom of the ladder WILL GO AND WILL DIE, whether as a volunteer or a draftee. We are the disdain of this president and government just as all governments before them. Draft or volunteer, it is NOT nor never been the upper rungs of the ladder that bleed and die.

Somewhere there is a chart of such information, as the wealth or position of people increase, the number or percentage of those that die in war drops off disproportionally to near zero.

I have studied war for a long time, and the people that bring it.

From what I've learned in the last few years, our last defensive war was started in 1861.

All the rest have been adventures for the profit of a very few, and the death of very many.

This is Satan's world and he's got some very talented folks on board.

Personally, I am ready for dude with a big trumpet to show up.

There is a ton of studies done back to WW2 about who serves and who dies.

The serving, bleeding and dying curve representing social status, actually becomes a false negative at the top. In other words so few serve or die that the curve cannot represent actual numbers because of the extreme curve at the bottom.

Rich man's war, poor man's fight. Lots of blood money being made off of this sordid affair.

Yes Sir, indeed.

I just read that we have 70,000 civilians working in Afghanistan, they don't count up front and never get mentioned.

When one such as me views war from the bottom UP, they tend to disagree with those having a view from the middle up.

We have never started a war but we are ALWAYS THE FIRST ONES INVITED for every war.
