WASHINGTON -- The last presidential election took place barely 11 months ago, but a new poll shows former Arkansas governor and Southern Baptist pastor Mike Huckabee leading a field of Republican candidates for the 2012 GOP nomination.

The Rasmussen survey of 750 Republican voters conducted Oct. 15 shows Huckabee at 29 percent, Mitt Romney 24 percent, Sarah Palin 18 percent and Newt Gingrich 14 percent. Huckabee also beats Romney and Palin in head-to-head matchups, edging Romney 44-39 percent and Palin 55-35 percent.

Although 2012 is still three years away, campaigning and fundraising for the GOP nomination will begin much sooner. The first debates will take place in 2011, several months after next year's mid-term elections.

Huckabee won eight states during his bid for the 2008 Republican nomination and finished second in delegate count. He's currently the host of his own show on Fox News, "Huckabee," which consistently is the top show in its time slot against other cable news programming.

He was governor of Arkansas for 10 years. Prior to his political career he served as pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, Ark., and Beech Street Baptist Church in Texarkana, Ark. He also attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Subscribe to *Sarah Palin 2012*

While he might not be a card carrying member yet, Mike Huckabee is involved with the CFR big time.

He's also a neocon rapture monkey

Imagine being a Republican right now. Your choices, already being massaged for you, are Huckabee, Romney or Palin.

That, sir, is incentive enough right there to run screaming from the GOP if you're a card carrying member still.

Oh, I know. But any such party will be, or is currently, marginalized and ignored. It's hard to get members when you can't get the message out except by going door to door.

Though, some hope, the whole tea party movement has created a lot of open doors and open minds and a large base of prospective names to get info out to.

Traficant is a far leftist. He may be an honest man (I think it's a safe bet), but his political philosophy makes me gag. If I'm going to vote for somebody, I want somebody who will represent my desire that the country be governed in the manner it was founded to be governed in. I never get that vibe from the far left, ever.

Exactly. Thay's why the socialists go out of their way to discuss them, ad nauseum, even tho they claim they're ineffective.

Somebody could drive a campaign bus into that opening and siphon millions of votes from both parties.

Well hell, if that's your only criteria, then the National Socialist party is ok. But not to me, no.

I'm happy to welcome in people to our fight, but I want them to be on our side. Some clown that will bust up the Fed and eschew Israel but govern us like we're a bunch of serfs and slaves, doesn't get my vote. I'm more into the Need For Free, bro.

All true, but Huckabee's secret weapon is that he owns a mighty fine Mister Rogers facsimile vest [ I saw him wear it on Craig Ferguson's show] that could send subliminal messages of "pick me, pick me" to the general voting public that has grown up on Mister Rogers.

hucklebee was the R fall guy that was kept alive solely to make sure Ron Paul didn't catch fire and have a place of stature at the R convention...

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”—Samuel Adams

Go for it! There's a dude in upstate NY pulling in the 20s against the R and D. Also, the "I" running for Gov. in NJ is at 15%. They're doing it w/o large bucks and a simple, "I'm not them" platform.

He was Pat Buchanan's, Alan Keyes in '96. Keyes kept Pat hamstrung by picking up 5-6%, which had it gone to PB would have put him in a dead heat w/Dole.

Kind of in a 1 term "audit the Fed, cast a No vote to everything statist, propose to eliminate the Income Tax, repeal Federal gun laws, force all regulation through Constitutional checks before vote, get us out of the Middle East and cut financial aid to all parties in the region" thought.

It is a pseudo-fantasy after all. Back when I was active in the LPO (LP of Ohio) I was constantly approached by the various chair(s) to run, but never did, seeking instead honest gainful employment. :)

Me: get us out of the Middle East and cut financial aid to all parties in the region.

And reject all monies, gifts, bribe attempts and threats of "interested parties" from those who may hold dual citizenships and who wish to influence U.S. federal government policies. Hell, given my druthers, I'd repeal as much foreign aid as they let me before sending out a sniper team to deal with me. heh.

I suspect that should that ever happen, if I'm not sniped, I'll end up penniless and without a family, living in a trailer in the middle of the Mojave. But the way I figure it, the Founding Fathers pledged their lives to the ideal of human liberty, and many of them followed through and made that sacrifice. How can any of us pledge less?

That's the rub ... people wishing to earn an honest living are repulsed by jobs wherein thievery is the means to the same end.

The U.S. Govt is a tyrannical butcher; U.S. taxpayers are accomplices to international murder and mayhem. If you satisfy your fears by bowing to this butcher, you forfeit your humanity and possibly your soul.

That is the problem isn't it? I was always flattered and yet felt slightly...I don't know...insulted I guess, to think that I'd be "perfect" to be in such a place. I know they meant well (the LPO chair(s)) and felt I was marketable in some fashion (??? I don't know where or how, honestly), but still, ugh. That's 99% of the whole reason I encapsulate my thoughts as pseudo-fantasy now actually.

Holy crap! Traficant may be a far lefty in your book but he is way farther right than those who claim to be conservative. Ya better google in Traficant's name and watch those 1 minute attacks he had done on the house floor. If you still think he is a leftie, call funk & Wagnals and tell them you want the definition of a lefty changed.

Traficant has fought big government every step of the way. Maybe it's just that you are a rich kid who can't stand the average guy win anything against big government, big banks, big business, and corrupt politicans. I guess you never heard Traficant call his fellow congress critters whores or watched him fight the IRS.

Go take a peek at the real Jim Traficant and then get back to us.

Now see, I don't disagree on the purity. I do disagree on taking up the cause for somebody guaranteed to diminish human liberty, just because he'll get rid of the Fed (or whatever). There's the half loaf theory, and then there's the "paltry crumb" theory. I do not subscribe to the paltry crumb theory.
