Years ago, I was tenacious about this sort of presentation especially when pushed into a corner. I have backed-offed completely because it really does nothing other than create turmoil and potential despair. I have realized that the act creates an intrusion into and upon personal rights and liberties and freedoms. I have learned from past mistakes and even in a humourous mode attempting to create caricatures, I refuse to perform such a post anymore. Each and everyone of us have a serious and REAL right to his/her own dignity. The goals are to learn from each other and potentially increase our own capability for mutual respect and personal success.

Kennedy School scholar Marvin Kalb attacked the authors, claiming they fail to meet quality standards. Harvard professor, Ruth Wisse, writing an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal on the matter, called for the school to withdraw the paper. "Poor scholarship," she said about the study. Julie Silverstein, the president of the Jewish Student Caucus at the Kennedy School, described the paper in an e-mail as "political rhetoric with an academic imprimatur." She added: "I am very concerned that Walt's piece will inflame the anti-Israel and anti-Semitic bias that often hovers below the surface in academia." This morning, I received good news from an Israeli official who followed the story, and was able to confirm: Harvard's Kennedy School decided to remove its logo from this paper, and the new version contains a more specific disclaimer warning readers that the views conveyed in the paper are of the authors alone. The original version had only a weak bottom-of-the-page disclaimer stating that "The views expressed in the KSG do not necessarily reflect those of the John F. Kennedy School of Government or Harvard University." The new disclaimer notched things up: "The two authors of this Working Paper are solely responsible for the views expressed in it? It also reported this interesting nugget - which will be quoted by the people supporting the research as yet another proof that the pro-Israel lobby controls America: "Harvard, the observer said, had received 'several calls' from 'pro-Israel donors' expressing concern about the Walt-Mearsheimer paper. One of the angered contributors is said to be the donor who underwrote the chair occupied by Dean Walt, Robert Belfer. Mr. Belfer, a 1958 graduate of Harvard Law School, endowed a faculty chair as part of a $7.5 million gift to the Kennedy School in 1997. In addition to bearing the title of academic dean of the Kennedy School, Mr. Walt is also the Robert and Renee Belfer Professor of International Politics."

If I pulled the plug on LP, what would we have to talk about around here? On a serious note, I don't think I'd have any legal say about shutting LP. Too much time has gone by and I've put the software in the public domain. But what purpose would closing it down serve anyway? Would it make anyone smarter or more free? Would in restore any rights? I don't think so. I don't think it would change anything.
