Well, the conservatives went hunting for a Republican heretic in upstate New York, and it looks as though they’ve bagged one. This will be the occasion for a lot of celebration on the GOP right, but regardless of what happens Tuesday, I don’t think it bodes well for the GOP nationally.

No party gets bigger by getting smaller.

From the Watertown Daily News:

Dede Scozzafava, the Republican and Independence parties candidate, announced Saturday that she is suspending her campaign for the 23rd Congressional District and releasing all her supporters.

The state Assemblywoman has not thrown her support to either Doug Hoffman, the Conservative Party candidate, or Bill Owens, the Democratic candidate.

“Today, I again seek to act for the good of our community,” Ms. Scozzafava wrote in a letter to friends and supporters. “It is increasingly clear that pressure is mounting on many of my supporters to shift their support. Consequently, I hereby release those individuals who have endorsed and supported my campaign to transfer their support as they see fit to do so. I am and have always been a proud Republican. It is my hope that with my actions today, my party will emerge stronger and our district and our nation can take an important step towards restoring the enduring strength and economic prosperity that has defined us for generations.”

The GOP is becoming a regional party. It is largely Southern and rural. Only 20 percent of Americans are willing to admit they're GOPers.

ALL governments at all levels are now detested, but this means global corporations by definition will rule unabated and the people will be reduced to technoserfdom.

One less Obama FREAK in congress. Lets hope the D-d'bag in VA gets bounced and Corzine receives his walking papers. Whatever pisses off the O'Piles the most, I favor.

Does this require a lot of thought from this alleged Republican candidate????

In effect she's throwing it to the D since her politics are to the left of his.

Hoffman is a longtime Republican, just running on the Conservative ticket. This is common in NY.

In effect she's throwing it to the D since her politics are to the left of his.

Her remaining support was estimated by CFG's pollster as 2:1 Republican. Most of them party loyalists that just vote GOP no matter what.

That would mean that if she still had 21%, the Dim will get 7% from her and Hoffman will get 14% from her.

She mentions her supporters being pressured. These would be local party officials that were pledged to her. By releasing them, they can leave her without looking like rats deserting the sinking ship. Of course, they might have told her to release them by today or they would just desert her like rats deserting a sinking ship anyway. LOL. This way, Dede and her remaining supporters all get to look a little more classy.

And the point of all this was because it became apparent she'd lose?

Yes, and until this nation launches a political party free from the grasp of the Boys from Tel Aviv, the best we can hope for is a lesser of two evils. I wish it were different, but that's reality.

What is a Republican anyway, Rush Limbaugh?

I'm well aware of that. You misunderstand me. What has just happened reinforces that only Southern-style pols can gain any traction on that part of the spectrum.

But a Southern-based political philosophy cannot win nationally. Newt Gingrich is the biggest loser coming out of this fiasco. He had hitched his horse to the woman who just dropped out.

Gingrich was groomed by Alvin & Heidi Toffler, a pair of new age psychotics. I learned that early in '95 and never considered him anything but an enemy of freedom since.

I should have said "hitched his wagon." The woman who dropped out is the "horse" in this scene. Now Newt and the old nag are in the ditch together.
