100 new militia groups since Obama elected; watchdog alarmed

By David Edwards and Daniel Tencer Monday, November 16th, 2009 -- 10:20 am

Some 100 new militia groups have formed since the election of President Barack Obama, says the Southern Poverty Law Center.

In a re-run of the phenomenon seen when President Bill Clinton took office, gun-rights advocates, libertarians, survivalists and others are forming militias as a symbol of their resistance to what they see as an administration that threatens to restrict their right to bear arms and expand government control over the lives of private citizens.

"The truth is that these groups are popping up like mushrooms after a spring rain," said Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center, a social-justice group that has been tracking the rise of militias over the past year.

Potok's group put out a report earlier this year raising the alarm about the resurgence of armed militias. Since then, he told CNN, the group has counted about 100 new groups formed across the country.

"There really is this terrible fear mixed with fury about the idea that President Obama is somehow leading a socialistic takeover of America," Potok said.

A CNN news crew that visited the Southeast Michigan Volunteer Militia found a group that sees itself as a "deterrent" to any attempts to restrict gun use, and otherwise sees itself as a place to learn survival skills.

"Just the simple fact that we are out here and we are doing this, will give somebody pause, will make them think twice," said militia member Michael Lackomar, who added that he thought Obama "could be dangerous for the nation."

"Anytime we get a Democratic president in the office, people become concerned, including myself, and we get a resurgence out here," said one militia member, identified only as Brian.

But CNN's Jim Acosta points out that gun control "is unrealistic in many ways, because the Obama administration and the Democrats know that it would be political suicide for them to go after gun control measures. Even the attorney general has indicated he won't go back to the assault weapons ban enacted in the Clinton administration."

In its report from August, the Southern Poverty Law Center pointed out that the most recent wave of militia groups differs slightly from the wave seen under President Clinton in one respect.

"A key difference this time is that the federal government — the entity that almost the entire radical right views as its primary enemy — is headed by a black man," the report states. "That, coupled with high levels of non-white immigration and a decline in the percentage of whites overall in America, has helped to racialize the Patriot movement, which in the past was not primarily motivated by race hate."

If you consider all of the 'militias of one'...

then I would put the number of new 'militias' in the millions.

A Militia Of One!

Where can I rent a bugle?

In 2007, the FBI reported on concern about white supremacists recruiting soldiers, saying "hundreds" of neo-Nazis were in the active military. But in April, a Department of Homeland Security report on extremism that reiterated much the same point was widely criticized by veterans groups and some conservative politicians as being unpatriotic, leading the Justice Department to retract the DHS report.

Critics acknowledge that extremism in the Army is a touchy political subject.

Please dismiss anything these government sponsored heebs have to say regarding people who have disdain for socialism. They need to be concerned about the 100 million gun owners who own multiple guns *and* belong to no group.

Leaderless Resistance scares the matzo out of them.

Some 100 new militia groups have formed since the election of President Barack Obama, says the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Meaning that the federal government has at least one hundred new undercover operatives ready to manipulate those stupid enough to join their supposed militia group.

Anyone coming here and expecting to see the white flag of anti semitism flying will have to either accept that fact that it doesnt or find another home.

Anyone that supports the cause of world Jewry will have to stand on their own two feet, there is no one to hold their hand for them and make all the bad people go away.

When they began dominating our government and perverting it to the benefit of the Rothschild State a.k.a. Shittylittlestan.

Personally I don't use the term just as generally, but not always, I avoid racial epithets (sometimes you have to be un-PC just for the sheer hell of it).

However, the Jewish Community, specifically the Zionazim, have torqued a few people off with their criminality, disregard for human rights, and poor table manners. When you engage in fraud and it is discovered don't expect a cheering section to arise.

Anytime we get a Democratic president in the office, people become concerned, including myself, and we get a resurgence out here," said one militia member, identified only as Brian.

That's BS it seems anytime we get a president anymore.

To see a difference the two patsy system has to be broken.

It wouldn't surprise me if this article were little more than a recruitment add by government operatives to get people into their "militias" and under surveillance. 100 new militias? How about, as you say, 100 new government agents handing out pamphlets trying to *start* 100 new militias.

Leaderless resistance is going to be the framework of any eventual confrontation in the future (hypothetically), at least initially. Imagine, 80 to 100 million Militias of One. Somebody in DC probably isn't sleeping well these days. :)

I don't know any longer. The GOP is huffing on and on about Huckabee and other RINO's, and I don't hear the GOP grassroots liking it at all. Many (many many) are even calling for a third party. The facade may well be in the processing of crashing down this time.

I could be wrong of course, who knows, the future is always such a fickle matter. :)

Nothing would make me happier than to have the bulk of government scared shitless of us. That is how the natural state of affairs *should* be.

Barry is so utterly inexperienced, and so utterly incapable of learning from others (being a narcissist extreme), that he's going to keep chugging along as if we don't exist and as if our protests were nothing to pay heed to. While he may sleep well (as most idealogues would), I suspect that a lot of Congress- creatures and the unelected bureaucracy aren't.

Well, in theory, they have the right to be armed, each and every one of them. Just like we do. We're all citizens right? ;)

Maybe we should relax a bit and start exercising our rights, like they seem to want to do themselves. Provide a little parity, a bit of balance as it were. If they want to carry a Glock, I'm happy carting along my StG-58. Balance. :)

Unfortunately people have a tendency to prepare for the last confrontation. That's applicable not only to the military, but to those who honestly wish to start up militias. The modern age of information and extreme technology demands that confrontations now can only be won by doing something people have not prepared for and do not know how to counter. While leaderless resistance is the current front runner as the next strategy, it may well not be, and be something else (heck, it might even be peaceful). No matter what though, going to the old ways is a guaranteed path to defeat.

I think a lot of interesting techniques could be learned from being in a 'militia', however, the downsides that you note prohibit association.

I tell anyone who listens not to fall for the militia BS. Then I give them documented examples of how the government has infiltrated these groups in the past and manipulated the members into breaking the law, going so far as to provide materials and training before sweeping in and "saving the day."

Unfortunately, the history of militias in this country is hardly among this nation's proudest moments generally speaking.

Actually I don't and for one main reason - it reminds the politicians that the spirit of resistance to tyranny still exists.

I wouldn't care to join one - I was never so happy as when I got handed that "Honorable Discharge" (talk about narrow escapes) and reverted back to freeman status, but then I am proud to have served as well. It was a duty not a pleasure. So, I don't find the military mindset attractive. However, what does it say about the governance of the country when increasing numbers of people feel they have to band together for protection against their own government? It is not an indicator of a healthy state of affairs, and my sympathies lie with the militias and their concerns. They are not all bad, not all racists, they are common folk with concerns and they are concerned to the point of considering the need to take arms in their own defense against their own government.

But hey, it takes fools to allow this all to happen. As long as they were getting bribed and paid it was all good. Now that the gravy train ain't the express anymore, people are noticing.

Better late than never some will argue, but "too late" is too late.

Not sure it's too late, but we are about to find out, eh.

A good summation. I would defend the Sheeple a little bit in that they have been subject now to several generations of intensive Psychiatric/Psychological manipulation through the skools and controlled media. One study I read compared the general education level of current Bachelor's Degrees with the general education level of a High School Graduate in 1947 as being equivalent (I always remember that because it was the year my Mom graduated H.S.). As well much of what they know is false, and much of the current younger generation has been brought down to semi-literacy. One of the problems with the barrage of propaganda and Psychiatric Manipulation is that they, those who do not attend forums such as this, believe the false picture to be a true picture. People who draw conclusions on false data reach false conclusions.

True there is a percentage who have seen and felt they personally benefited and so remained silent, but now it is beginning to hit home that they too are "useless eaters" in the eyes of the self-styled elite. The dumbing down effect through the skools cannot be understated in its impact. Those so afflicted, with functional illiteracy, are blocked from reading and all of the benefits that a broad education brings. Such as being able to read and comprehend higher level texts and see how history repeats and how what we face is not new but simply has mass communications to make it more ever present and thus more effective as a control mechanism. The sheer pervasiveness of the mind control through popular culture, television, newspapers, and magazines has an impact. It creates a false reality which achieves the manipulations Orwell spoke of in 1984.

It is hard to predict which way things will go next, my Crystal Ball is out for maintenance, but there are multiple forces rising against the encroaching sea of tyranny. Whether the dike will hold is not clear at this point.
