The legislators behind this act want to create a traveling inquisition that will arbitrarily target dissidents and activists whose goals and speech the establishment cannot tolerate.

They're going to put HUAC on wheels and "hold hearings and sit and act at such times and places, take such testimony, receive such evidence, and administer such oaths as the Commission considers advisable to carry out its duties."

For the coming witch hunt, they'll issue the commissioners hoods no doubt.

Could it be that .gov is beginning to fear the people?

Harman’s bill does not spell out terrorist behavior and leaves it up to the Commission itself to identify what is terrorism and what isn’t.

Language inserted in the act does partially define “homegrown terrorism” as “planning” or “threatening” to use force to promote a political objective, meaning that just thinking about doing something could be enough to merit the terrorist label.

The act also describes “violent radicalization” as the promotion of an “extremist belief system” without attempting to define “extremist.”

It's evident that they are shitting their britches.

From www.govtrack.us:

S. 1959 [110th]: Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007
Aug 27, 2008 11:37 AM

Is anyone else puzzled about the real meaning of this bill? - Show 1 Answer

A1: This bill simply means that if you use political force, or protest in any way you can be labeled a terrorist, and be subject to apprehension through the U.S.A. Patriot act. The word Force can be loosely defined as simply meaning pressure, which in turn means that if you speak out in opposition to anything the government is doing you can be deemed a terrorist, also violence can also be loosely defined as simply displaying anger, so if you were to simply shout your political, religious, or ethnic views you could be deemed to be a violent person, even though you may not actually become violent. by this definition, you can also be deemed a terrorist, and become subject of the U.S.A. Patriot act.

This bill essentially nullifies everyone's constitutionally guaranteed right of freedom of speech. [Answer submitted on Oct 24, 2008 9:32 AM]

It should be noted that government tyranny is driving the people towards a path of violent revolution.

This will merely hasten that path.

Of course, this would have to pass a filibuster, and the house.

I mean really guys.

Thank you. I misread the date on the article at the top as May 14 2010 when it was May 14 2008.

The Sorcha Faal link at post #1 is dated 2010, but that info is questionable.

I've learned the hard way. You don't know how many times I have forwarded something I got in email only to discover it was out of date legislation. It is just habit for me to look em up now. I saw this:

Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007" (S. 1959).

A companion piece of legislative flotsam to the House bill, "The Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007" (H.R. 1955),

And it raised red flags for me.

BTW, the best place to look up bills is Thomas. It is run by the Library of Congress.

The news is as of May 28 2010 like I posted at post #1.

www.timesonline.co.uk/tol...ericas/article7138657.ece

I had originally been reading this www.eutimes.net/2010/05/n...ll-jail-500000-americans/ and posted this www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?aid=8978&context=va as the main article because I thought the globalresearch website had more crediblity but didn't read the date.

Did anyone bother to look at the dates for the bills?

So, what's on the burner in the 111th Congress?

How about H.R.5590, the Counterterrorism Enhancement and Department of Homeland Security Authorization Act of 2010.

And what's in the first title of that bill? You guessed it.

TITLE I--COUNTERTERRORISM, INTELLIGENCE, AND INFORMATION SHARING

SEC. 102. PRESIDENTIAL CERTIFICATION.

SEC. 103. PROVISION OF CLASSIFIED FILES.

SEC. 104. ENSURING THE COLLECTION OF CRITICAL INTELLIGENCE.

SEC. 105. REPORT ON THE HIGH VALUE DETAINEE INTERROGATION GROUP.

SEC. 106. COVERT AGENT IDENTITY PROTECTION.

SEC. 107. SPECIAL INTERAGENCY TASK FORCE ON DETAINEE DISPOSITION.

SEC. 108. THREAT ASSESSMENT RELATING TO TRANSFER OF GUANTANAMO DETAINEES TO THE UNITED STATES OR ITS TERRITORIES.

SEC. 109. HABEAS CORPUS.

SEC. 110. VIOLENT RADICALIZATION AND HOMEGROWN TERRORISM PREVENTION.

`SEC. 899A. DEFINITIONS.

`SEC. 899B. FINDINGS.

`SEC. 899C. NATIONAL COMMISSION ON THE PREVENTION OF VIOLENT RADICALIZATION AND IDEOLOGICALLY BASED VIOLENCE.

`SEC. 899D. CENTER OF EXCELLENCE FOR THE STUDY OF VIOLENT RADICALIZATION AND HOMEGROWN TERRORISM IN THE UNITED STATES.

`SEC. 899E. PREVENTING VIOLENT RADICALIZATION AND HOMEGROWN TERRORISM THROUGH INTERNATIONAL COOPERATIVE EFFORTS.

`SEC. 899F. PROTECTING CIVIL RIGHTS AND CIVIL LIBERTIES WHILE PREVENTING IDEOLOGICALLY BASED VIOLENCE AND HOMEGROWN TERRORISM.

This bill was read into the record in June and referred to committee in July.

This sort of bad legislation doesn't just go away or die in some committee when a congress adjourns. It comes back time after time like a bad penny. If it doesn't make its way through the sausage machine on the first try, our enemies see to it that it finds its way into some other canned ham of a bill hidden among the thousands of pages of paranoid lawyerspeak and boilerplate.

Conspiracy aside, that's what happened to the Patriot Act. They had tried to pass it before and it didn't fly.
