for many years there was a publicity campaign telling us that a new system was being developed to actually pick a national champion in a higher quality way. and the result of all that publicity was the BCS system. This BCS system dominates, but they do no better than before IMHO at picking a national champion. It is still the same. There is no playoff for the national champion because financial considerations of bowls, universities and tv networks come first.
In the Big 12 there were 4 teams that were 10-2. and one of those was my team, Missouri. They picked Nebraska and Oklahoma to have a championship game, those were only 2 of the 10-2 teams and 2 were left out. So Missouri who beat Oklahoma is not given a chance, but Oklahoma is now the Big 12 champion. oh well. at least Missouri had a good season.
I'm thinking that Auburn is going to win against Oregon and be the national champ. after all, they're undefeated and came out of the SEC, so what can you say?

Take the over and if UCONN scores at all, it will be a pity TD at the end of the game. The Big East is a total joke.

When the head coach at the University of Texas is the highest paid official in the state of TX ($5.7M plus all the outside endorsement contracts), I have no use for college football.
Don't get me started on D.Jeter quibbling over a $51M contract for four years with the Yankees...
Who in God's name can think that playing childrens' games, should yield that jack?
Stupid white people that fund it, I guess.

Thanks for posting, Red. I seem to recall Barky's promising to fix this national championship issue during his campaign; likely the reason many voted for the creature. Sorry Missouri got the short end, and they did have a good season. I am relieved that the UT Longhorns are finally out for the season, as I couldn't take any more. Think the Auburn-Oregon match-up will make for a legitimate championship game; at the moment, Auburn looks better to me.

To do it they have to stop Juggernaut a.k.a. LaMichael James and no one has been able to do that all year.
I think it is a good match up but Auburn, I think, is about to find out why year in and year out the Pac-10 is the toughest conference in the country. Oregon is undefeated as well. And that is a rarity in the Pac-10. I have seen as many as 6 or 7 of the Pac-10 teams all in the top 25 at the same time. I think Auburn is about to get steamrolled by the irresistable force. Oregon's offense has been averaging damn near 40 points a game. Cam Newton is going to find himself passing into an opportunistic secondary that is about as good as any out there. Oregon is a balanced team and there is no real weak point to attack.

we'll see.
I know earlier in the season there were weeks when I think 6 PAC 10 teams were in the top 25. but I just counted only 2 PAC 10 teams in the latest BCS top 25. and there are 6 SEC teams in that 25.
For as long as I can remember the SEC produces more teams that are in bowls. and over time most SEC teams win their bowls too. In Alabama they start playing organized football with referees and uniforms and pads at age 5. I lived in Alabama, I know.

I'd have to dig it out again, but I seem to recall reading that the Pac-10 has the best overall bowl record of all conferences. However, that is from memory and I could be wrong. With the proliferation of Also-Ran Bowls the numbers keep changing.
I will admit that the SEC is a tough conference however the Pac-10 is brutal too. That is why you don't see a lot of undefeated Pac-10 teams because the conference is tough from top to bottom.
It will be interesting because Pac-10 teams rarely face an SEC opponent.

That is one of the reasons for the proliferation of bowls - money. The schools get a good payday and the hosting cities make out as well. The popularity of football as a spectator sport supports in its entirety the rest of the Athletic Department just from what is made off of football - for a lot of schools.
