I occasionally work at a nursing home a few days a month.

I was in the dining room alone with a late-stage Alzheimer's patient in a total vegetative state who I watched jackknife out of his wheelchair and land on his left eyebrow, splitting it to the bone. He didn't make a sound.

He's in the hospital now, in quite bad shape.

The law prevents us from restraining these people.

Thirty years ago there were two million people with Alzheimer's. Now there's 20 million. The money spent on these people through Medicare is just astronomincal and gets worse every day.

Has the administration considered the Kevorkian Method as a cost saving tool?

Actually I suspect someday these people will be starved to death when the U.S. runs out of money. They can't feed themselves anyway. Stick a tube in them to get them hydrated and just don't feed them.

They have given us into the hand of new unhappy lords. Lords without anger and honor, who dare not carry their swords. They fight by shuffling papers; they have bright dead alien eyes; They look at our labor and laughter as a tired man looks at flies. - G.K. Chesterton

My grandmother had Alzheimer's. Terrible, terrible disease.
Strips people of their memories, dignity, and life.
My aunt took care of her for as long as she could, but had to put her into a nursing home when she became too much to handle. Eventually she died.
