WASHINGTON – A U.S. official says Osama bin Laden has been buried at sea.

After bin Laden was killed in a raid by U.S. forces in Pakistan, senior administration officials said the body would be handled according to Islamic practice and tradition. That practice calls for the body to be buried within 24 hours, the official said. Finding a country willing to accept the remains of the world's most wanted terrorist would have been difficult, the official said. So the U.S. decided to bury him at sea.

The official, who spoke Monday on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive national security matters, did not immediately say where that occurred. Subscribe to *Humor-Weird News*

For lots of fun, we could have announced that he was dumped in Israel's territorial waters ;-)

the U.S. decided to bury him at sea.

Like Megatron in the "Transformers" movie? A C-Span caller mentioned that today as a similarity with this news about Bin Laden but I haven't seen the movie.

Maine Sen. Susan Collins came on soon after and started moronically yammering about homegrown terrorism here in retaliation over Bin Laden being killed, like Americans are al Qaeda. Obama made some short, strange speech prior that sounded like he was talking about the "Bonanza" series -- mentioned somebody named Hoss Cartwright.

In the aftermath of the battle in Mission City, Sector Seven hauled away Megatron's corpse along with the other Decepticon bodies. The clandestine human organisation brought the bodies to a secret facility in the Nevada desert, with the intention of getting every bit of information they can out of the dead Decepticons before they were forced to dump them into the sea. When he arrived to oversee the burial of those who fell in Mission City, Optimus Prime noticed the surviving AllSpark fragment glowed when near Megatron's body, and gave it to Professor Vine for safekeeping. Weeks later, Megatron, along with Blackout, was dumped into the Laurentian Abyss.

Not a trench, but more of an "underwater valley": second deepest part of the Earth's ocean...second only to Challenger Deep [Marianis Islands area]..."Laurentian Abyss" sounds more sci-fi menacing than "Marianas Trench"...The Laurentian Abyss was the covert rendezvous point for Soviet and American submarines in the 1990 technothriller film The Hunt for Red October. The location, however, was a departure from the book, and was not used in the original 1984 novel by Tom Clancy.

Watch Obama Chuckle at Osama Joke the Day Before His Death [Video]: the dinner’s featured speaker, [sic] was Seth Meyers, head writer for Saturday Night Live.

During a segment of Meyers’ speech, he took the time to make fun of CSPAN as a channel that no one ever watches. This was a rather apt observation, because I recognize CSPAN as part of the 20-channel buffer between network TV and TBS, sandwiched between local access stations.

I’m also honored to be performing for those you tonight as well as the handful of people watching at home on CSPAN. CSPAN is of course the official network for wide shots of empty chairs. Every time I tune into CSPAN it looks like they just had a fire drill. CSPAN is one unpaid electric bill away from being a radio station. People think Bin Laden is hiding out out in the Hindu Kush, but did you know that everyday from 4-5 he hosts a show on CSPAN? I’m not complaining about CSPAN mind you, I usually work on NBC so I’m thrilled to be on a network that people actually watch.

When the camera pans over to Obama after the Osama joke, the president lets out a bountiful chuckle at Meyers’ joke. Looking back, it seems Obama might have laughed a little too hard. Since we now know that Obama had already given given the order to kill the leader of al-Qaeda. Imagine what was going through his mind? Was he laughing at the joke, or the irony?

Al- Qaeda Terror Threat Remains, U.S. Warns

Tuesday, May 3, 2011

Officials and lawmakers in Washington warned on Monday that killing Osama bin Laden has not eliminated the threat posed by his al-Qaeda terrorist network or by radicalized individuals (see GSN, May 2).

"Though bin Laden is dead, al-Qaeda is not," CIA head Leon Panetta said. "The terrorists almost certainly will attempt to avenge him, and we must -- and will -- remain vigilant and resolute. But we have struck a heavy blow against the enemy," ABC News reported.

Bin Laden was killed by a gunshot to the head on Sunday when elite U.S. Navy SEALs raided his hideout in the Abbottabad Valley of Pakistan.

Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) said he was worried about the possibility of an isolated individual mounting a revenge attack.

"My own great concern in the days ahead is that a so-called 'lone wolf,' a single individual who has been radicalized, will now mobilize himself or herself to take action here at home against the American people," the lawmaker said.

The top Republican on the committee echoed those fears.

"One of the concerns that I most have is that a homegrown terrorist will choose this moment to strike in an attempt to retaliate for Osama bin Laden's death," said Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine).

RealClearPolitics - Obama Awards Medals of Honor; Comments on Bin Laden

May 2, 2011

By Barack Obama

12:08 P.M. EDT

THE PRESIDENT: Good morning, everybody. Please be seated. On behalf of Michelle and myself, welcome to the White House. To our many guests from Hawaii, aloha. And thank you, Chaplain Carver, for that wonderful invocation.

I think we can all agree this is a good day for America. Our country has kept its commitment to see that justice is done. The world is safer; it is a better place because of the death of Osama bin Laden.

Today, we are reminded that, as a nation, there's nothing we can't do -- when we put our shoulders to the wheel, when we work together, when we remember the sense of unity that defines us as Americans. And we've seen that spirit -- that patriotism -- in the crowds that have gathered, here outside the White House, at Ground Zero in New York, and across the country -- people holding candles, waving the flag, singing the National Anthem -- people proud to live in the United States of America.

And we're reminded that we are fortunate to have Americans who dedicate their lives to protecting ours. They volunteer. They train. They endure separation from their families. They take extraordinary risks so that we can be safe. They get the job done. We may not always know their names. We may not always know their stories. But they are there, every day, on the front lines of freedom, and we are truly blessed.

I do want to acknowledge before we begin the ceremony two individuals who have been critical as part of my team who are here today: First of all, I think somebody who will go down as one of the finest Secretaries of Defense in our history, Secretary Bob Gates, who is here. (Applause.) And sitting beside him, someone who served with incredible valor on behalf of this country and is now somebody who I think will go down as one of the greatest Secretaries of Veterans Affairs in our history -- Eric Shinseki. (Applause.)

Now, I have to say that as Commander-in-Chief, I could not be prouder of our men and women in uniform. That is true now, in today's wars. It has been true in all of our wars. And it is why we are here today.

Long ago, a poet of the First World War wrote of the sacrifice of young soldiers in war:

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old, Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

Today, we are joined by two American families who six decades ago gave our nation one of their own -- Private First Class Henry Svehla and Private First Class Anthony Kaho'ohanohano.

They did not grow old. These two soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice when they were just 19 and 21 years old. Age did not weary them. In the hearts of their families, they remain forever young -- loving sons, protective brothers, hometown kids who stood tall in America's hometown -- in America's uniform.

Today, we remember them. And we honor them with the highest military decoration that our nation can bestow -- the Medal of Honor. In so doing we also honor their families, who remind us that it is our extraordinary military families who also bear the heavy burden of war.

We are joined by members of Congress who are here. We very grateful for you. We are also joined by leaders from the Army and our Armed Forces, including Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen and the Vice Chairman, General Jim "Hoss" Cartwright. Where -- there they are right there. (Applause.)

And this is not in the script, but let me just acknowledge that without the leadership of Bob Gates, Mike Mullen, Hoss Cartwright, today and yesterday would not have happened. And their steadiness and leadership has been extraordinary. I could not be prouder of them, and I am so grateful that they have been part of our team. (Applause.)

Shinseki is the General in charge of de-armoring our Military under Clinton, which has caused many casualties in the wars since. That is another reason, in addition to the bolded sections above, why the speech is horrendous, imo. The transcript goes on much longer about Korea and the two Medal of Honor Vets. Pinging that info for Cynicom:

Yes, at a public dinner via CSPAN -- the night prior to the reported end of the OBLisk; evidently, while that targeted assassination was in the works.

that is a keeper. thanks.

You're welcome.

This is a longer version of the dinner show [link posted in the article]. I haven't watched it all yet but it does have what looks to be a "Transformers" movie clip in the opening [ref: Posts #2 and #4 above], as well as one from "The Lion King" spoofed as his "birth video".

In other news at news.yahoo.com: Double waterspouts form off Hawaii shore [with video]

Tue May 3, 4:24 pm ET

By Liz Goodwin

Two tall and skinny waterspouts appeared off the south shore of Oahu, Hawaii yesterday, as some of the bad weather that has lately assailed the U.S. mainland has now alighted on the Pacific island.

The Star Advertiser reports that the waterspouts appeared during a hail and lightning storm that had reportedly knocked out power for at least 60,000 East Honolulu and Windward Oahu residents Monday evening. The spouts lasted for about 12 minutes. Waterspouts can become twisters if they reach land, but are usually weak.

You can watch the video below:

A couple of article comments:

"Apparently the ocean is angry we dumped Bin Ladin in it."

"Yep, maybe we shouldn't've given bin Laden a sea burial. It tried to get away from him."

Hmm--the sun would not have risen yesterday or today but for Hoss Cartwright? What about Pa, Little Joe and Adam? ahaha.

He (Gordon Duff) also implies that forcibly removing Obama, a Constitution-hating, on-the-down-low, crackhead Communist, is an attack on America, Mom, and apple pie. I swear these military people are worse than useless. Just look around at the condition of the country and tell me if they have fulfilled their oaths to protect the nation from all enemies foreign and domestic.

Over the years I've seen all the episodes.

When I was a kid, my father was in the Navy. After the war they stationed him in Naples, Italy. He went by plane, but we followed in a Navy transport ship via New York and Casablanca. It was just like that video, only no music and lots of throwing up.

I remember seeing re-runs of it as a kid. G. Gordon Liddy uses the theme music on his radio show.
