My mechanic called and told me the bad news about my van. Fuel pump.

$850.

I'm going to buy a car from the '60s I can fix myself...

Maybe a Pontiac Tempest with the sland-4. I had one when I was 19 but blew the engine up.

Isn't it an Aerostar or something? A replacement pump is like $150, if it's just the jump. Replace it yourself.

Don't get the pump/sender assembly, just the pump.

Just don't forget to do a proper solder job on the wiring connections to the pump.

Windstar.

The problem is that I would have to drop the tank, which I cannot do.

I checked online and it says to only partly drop the tank. A fuel pump is only about $60. I supposed I could tow it to a friend's house and spend two days fixing it.

Turtle...

Shoot it, call the scrap yard and they will take it away and give YOU $50.

Is that a deal or no?

I've thought about it. Next car I buy will have a clutch and no A/C. One of my friends bought a Kia Rio, I looked under the hood and asked him, "Where's the engine? This looks like a sewing machine."

I could do almost everything on it myself. Mechanics trying to change $80 an hour. I don't think so.

Bought last new car years ago, bout same time as I got rid of TV.

Have two olde bombers, twenty year olde caddy and eighteen year olde jeep.

Carry no insurance, either one of them dares cough, off to the scrap yard and they know it.

Guy next to me has a '94, no A/C, needs shocks and a tune-up. $1800. I'm halfway tempted. I could everything on it myself.
