As per Drudge, RP just quit the race. I was taken yet again.

Cyni, this is directed to you. You nailed it from the get go, and I got suckered.

I bow to you and accept my heaping portion of crow served anyway you care to deliver it to me.

There was a clear difference in the "before and after" and that is why I think he was threatened by what he regarded as a credible threat. If you assume that then everything else begins to make a murky sense.

Can you clarify that? (not sure what you mean exactly)

It's hard to pin down since I have no direct evidence, but it was as though before the SC debate he was making steady serious inroads, and then all of sudden his attitude changed - it was a subtle change but it was the difference between "fire in the belly" to "making a good show of it" as though he had been convinced that under no circumstances would he be allowed to win. It was at the SC debate where he repudiated all of his 911 Truth supporters in making a statement which was uncharacteristically harsh and absolutely embracing the Party Lyin on 911 - despite what had been coming out the back door that he thought a real investigation was in order.

And when I say credible threat I mean that it came from a source, regardless of the specifics of the threat, for which there was no doubt whatsoever in his mind that "they" could make good on it. In other words he was certain the threat was real and was certain that the people making the threat could and would carry it out if he did not play ball.

I get that H, but tactically, I see zero sense in today's announcement. He was on all the state ballots, and his strategy of delegate accumulation was creeping along, albeit slowly. Why????? announce it's over before Tampa????

Good question. In the announcement it was stated that he did not have the funds to continue in the primary states. I assume that means he isn't going to spend money on advertising in those states or campaigning throughout those states. If that is the case then surely the media would notice. This may have been nothing more than Ron Paul being upfront and honest instead of being sneaky and hoping no one noticed. Hell, who knows how the media would twist that.

Then again, maybe he's been a plant for the last 40 years. If so, then he should receive an academy award because he's bamboozled tens of millions of people.

Maybe I am a rube like others have said but I trust the man. I've been reading his writings since the early 80's. He's walked the walk of his talk as far as I am concerned. When he does things (like this) that I don't understand, then I give him the benefit of the doubt for the simple reason that I think that he truly is a good, decent human being who has the best interests of this country and its people in mind. I'm not a Christian or religious at all but when I think of what a Christian SHOULD be, I think of Ron Paul, as foolish as that may be.

This primary season was an absolute abomination such as the Soviets could never get away with.

It did have the salubrious effect though of convincing a lot more people that what we have is "Potemkin" Elections - that the facade of one man one vote has ceased to have any substance in reality. FreepTards excepted of course as in their slack jawed, mouth breathing, drooling world anything Faux Nooze or the Mahajunkie says is holy writ that anyone "thinking" - otherwise is a (((((shudder))))) "conspiracy theorist" - and evidence be damned.

We been so well bamboozled in our lifetimes that it's impossible to know a public man in whom you can invest your trust with absolute certainty, but I have the same feeling about RP.

I really think he has gone as far as a man can go in the name of liberty without being Wellstoned.

Frankly, I don't think he should speak with Bernanke except "very" publicly.

I feel badly for those supporting him though I can't say I blame them too much. It's hard for people not to get excited about someone touting freedom that has a record of championing it. The thing is that he never made an ounce of difference as far as the agenda is/was concerned - he simply kept those intelligent enough to seek a legitimate change by legitimate means in the game for one more fake-ass election cycle.

The fact that he and his campaign advisors "chose" to make this completely unnecessary statement about quitting the primaries almost makes me sick to my stomach because it makes me think the worst about him. Right before the Texas primary, where he may well have kicked Romney's ass - he forfeits.

Bullshit !

Never ignore any "possibility" in politics.

Very remote but many people have been wondering.

Go back 100 years to 1912 and Rep. Charles Lindbergh.

Attempts were made on his life and he was run out of politics by the New York times.

Then 1920s/30s Rep Louis McFadden, shot at, poisoned and poison on second attempt got him.

Then 1930s/40s, Charles Lindbergh, son murdered.

What did they all have in common? Very vocal about the bankers and Federal Reserve.

Then Ron Paul current, re elected twelve times as a republican without any opposition.

The relationship between morality and liberty is a directly proportional one.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Here's the Ron Paul letter to supporters.......

He's not throwing in the towel! He will not be advertising in primary states.

Dear Abraxas,

As I reflect on our 2012 Presidential campaign, I am humbled by the supporters who have worked so hard and sacrificed so much. And I am so proud of what we have accomplished. We will not stop until we have restored what once made America the greatest country in human history.

This campaign fought hard and won electoral success that the talking heads and pundits never thought possible. But, this campaign is also about more than just the 2012 election. It has been part of a quest I began 40 years ago and that so many have joined. It is about the campaign for Liberty, which has taken a tremendous leap forward in this election and will continue to grow stronger in the future until we finally win.

Our campaign will continue to work in the state convention process. We will continue to take leadership positions, win delegates, and carry a strong message to the Republican National Convention that Liberty is the way of the future.

Moving forward, however, we will no longer spend resources campaigning in primaries in states that have not yet voted. Doing so with any hope of success would take many tens of millions of dollars we simply do not have. I encourage all supporters of Liberty to make sure you get to the polls and make your voices heard, particularly in the local, state, and Congressional elections, where so many defenders of Freedom are fighting and need your support.

I hope all supporters of Liberty will remain deeply involved - become delegates, win office, and take leadership positions. I will be right there with you. In the coming days, my campaign leadership will lay out to you our delegate strategy and what you can do to help, so please stay tuned.

For Liberty,

Ron Paul
