news.antiwar.com/2013/06/24/400- ... -to-egypt/ A group of over 400 US ground troops are going to soon be deployed to Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, as part of a 13-naton force aimed at preventing riots in the area around Israel’s border.

The troops have been training for months for the deployment, which comes on the eve of planned protests against the Morsi government in Egypt, which many fear could lead to a violent crackdown and further demonstrations, as has been so common in the past.

The Egyptian government downplayed the deployment, saying the troops are being sent “merely as a formality” and that they won’t have any weapons. This is likely aimed at preventing another controversy surrounding foreign troops occupying Egyptian soil.

Issues over the military bases for foreign forces in Sinai caused major concern among Egyptians last year, with the Egyptian Army eventually dismissing the reports as a “lie” and claiming that the bases were merely “multinational forces facilities” and not real military bases, even though they are bases for foreign military forces.

Darn right pathetic.

How are those 400 US soldiers defending our nation?

Give me a friggin' break.

I think the Bush girls are of age to fight for our liberty in the ME.

And Mishie is always yapping about staying in good shape. She could prove her non-obese fat as a barn self by fighting for freedom and deeemocrassy in Egypt. Be a role model, Mishie. Flex them muscles.

What timing. And no weapons?...cuz they're just being sent to look stern and tell rioters to halt? That's demented as well as reckless endangerment of their lives and totally unnecessary. Sounds like a replay of how our Marines were set-up to be sitting ducks in Beirut so as to make America less neutral.

No more Morsi government since that news was reported weeks ago. They shouldn't have been sent as global police/border patrol "peacekeepers" at all but if they were they should be out of there by now.

It could well be that Morsi's ouster was already pre-determined some months ago as well. In which case the toops being sent over are to prevent the formation of an honest government not subservient to Israel's plans to continue ethnic-cleansing in Palestine.

I don't know what they could do about it with no weapons (even for their own self-defense) if targeted with force for meddling in Egypt's government as adjuncts of Israel. Maybe call for support from other nationals stationed with them at the Sinai base and hope they happen to have some weapons among them. Try calling for support from Israel as our Reagan-era troops reportedly did in the cross-fire of Lebanon...but that was to no avail due to its Military being busy elsewhere, afaik. Or perhaps they could call for U.S. sea and air support like the USS Liberty did? And what if Israelis jammed American frequencies again, like they did back then, because they might not want rescue-assistance arriving for these Americans either, for some reason or other (like those, too, are mistakenly imagined to be foes)?

I read at this presstv report from last year that the majority of Egyptians don't even want U.S. or other foreign aid money influencing their politics, so I have to doubt our unarmed and somewhat unwelcome troops would have much clout:

Gallup: 85% of Egyptians opposed to US aid: [Egyptians] are becoming increasingly opposed to aid not only from the U.S., but also from international organizations and Arab governments.

Sounds like they are going to use them for a "trip wire." Sort of like our people who are stationed on the border between North and South Korea who should never have been there to start with.

Americans who have no experience with, or knowledge of, tyranny believe that only terrorists will experience the unchecked power of the state. They will believe this until it happens to them, or their children, or their friends.

The Israelis will use them for target practice and then blame the Egyptians for attacking them. The current nation of Israel will be wiped out, of that I am sure. God does not like to be mocked, and those fools are mocking him non-stop.

God is always good!

Yes, it does and I agree. We should leave all foreign countries and be able to have a Military that just stays here to guard us, like the Militaries of other nations do there, without being transformed into Globalization tools.

Globalists exporting our troops as an international police force and importing foreign troops here...that lunacy needs to stop. This Sinai "venture" is yet another example of their maniacal drives for Empire "dependency". America should have no alliances or even trade agreements with any nations or orgs that are in the Mad Hatter & March Hare business of Empire engineering and maintenance. Egypt and Israel are quite capable of guarding their own borders.

If Americans want to serve the Globalist Internationale, they can go sign up with the U.N.'s forces. When they sign up to join America's Defense forces, they should not be used for Global Policing.

Excerpts from telegraph.co.uk 17 Sep 2013 | US troops under siege as Egypt battles Islamists: American-led peace-keeping troops in the Sinai are living in a state of siege as fighting between the Egyptian army and militant Islamists groups threatens the viability of the mission.

Conditions for the 1,660-strong team, who were put in place under the 1979 Camp David peace accord but keep a low profile, have become "very tense and very dangerous", according to Egyptian sources.

Multi-national Force of Observers (MFO) soldiers, of whom almost 700 are American and others come from countries including France, Italy, Australia and Canada, cannot leave their bases without wearing body armour, while those in Al Gora, the biggest camp, are starting to dig their own wells for water so as not to have to rely on local supplies.

They have also started bringing in food from Israel, rather than from Egypt, which was a considerably cheaper option, say the Egypt-based analysts. The situation in Sinai is seen as a growing threat by Israel, which fears incursions and rocket attacks over the border if the Egyptian army is unable to control the militants.

"They are sitting there like sitting ducks", Zalman Shoval, special envoy for the prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, told The Daily Telegraph.

The MFO was set up by Egypt, Israel and the US following the 1979 Camp David Accords in order to supervise the implementation of the Israeli-Egyptian peace treaty.

Edited for punctuation.
