People were asking the same thing when as a POW he recorded anti-American propaganda for broadcast by North Vietnam.
McCain was not one to suffer beatings or deprivation at the hands of his captors just because he was an admiral's son.
And his service to Israel certainly reflects that idiosyncratic personality trait.
