(Reuters) - McDonald's line cooks, Burger King cashiers and other fast-food restaurant workers across the U.S. plan to walk off the job on Thursday in an ongoing battle with their employers to gain a $15 hourly wage, organizers said on Monday.

The protests, announced on Twitter by organizer Fight For 15, come as cities across the nation propose minimum wage increases while Democrats seek to raise the federal minimum wage ahead of this year's mid-term congressional elections.

Fast food workers have launched a series of protests over the last nearly two years to bring awareness to their demands, which include the right to unionize without retaliation.

In one of the last major actions, restaurant workers launched rallies in 150 cities, including Boston, Chicago, New York and Miami in May.

This time, organizers are staging walkouts in more than 100 cities and plan to use nonviolent civil disobedience tactics such as sit-ins, The New York Times reported.

Unlike the protest in May, thousands of home care workers are expected to join in solidarity, the Times reported.

G. Scott I have a job that makes around $15 bucks already and is more difficult than that of a fast food worker. I have a long and steady work history of providing excellent customer service, I look professional, have a firm grasp of the English language, I can actually make change and pride myself of being the best at whatever job I do. To you cashiers demanding $15 bucks an hour, guess what? You will be competing for your own job with me and others like me. So look to see either automation or one of me replacing 2 of you. As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for, you may just get it. 7-1

JW So if we raise the cashiers at Burger King to $15 an hour, then we need to raise retail cashiers to $20 an hours because they usually make a little more then fast food cashiers anyway. Then we will need to raise first line supervisors to about $23 an hour because they have to make more then their retail cashiers and so on and so on. If this starts happening HELLO AUTOMATION. Many restaurants like Sheetz and Wawa already use computer terminals for customers to place their own orders without the need for a person ( and usually when i go to these places and place my own order it's exactly correct because there was no person there who could not speak English taking my order). Cashiers are easily replaced and no business is going to want to pay those wages and no consumer is going to want to pay the increased prices. 7-1

Glenriven On a happy note, PETA will be pleased. On another happy note, I will be packing my own lunc this Thursday and it will be Tuna sandwich, I have not made one in a while, but I remember how good they taste. I need to remember to pick up some of those lays potato chips. Way less greasy than fries and goes great with a tuna sandwich.

Teenagers of America Unite and demand $15 per hour. A can of Tuna cost 3.00 and makes 4 sandwiches. Come to think of it, a bologna and tomatoes sandwich, is pretty dang good. Takes longer to drive to the BK than it does to make the sandwich. 8-1

g okay, what happens when you get that $15/hr ( 31,200 year) and suddenly you don't qualify for all those government subsides you enjoy, you will make too much.

First, fast food stores will cut half of the staff. Once mcdonald has to pay out so much money, food prices for fast food will get so high, it would be cheaper to go to a nice restaurant and get t-bone steak. Suddenly, less people buying mcdonald's, then they have to go into a cost cutting measure and cut more staff.

If want to make 15 dollars an hour, go back and get and education. Stop thinking that you deserve 15 dollars and hour with a highschool education flipping burgers. The state I work in, Nurses start out at 19/hour with a four year degree and you expect 15.

Go ahead let them pay you that amount, but I will not be eating a $10 subsitute beef big mac. They will have to charge that amount to pay the rest of you, once they lay off half of the work force. Salary incease has to come from some where and positon elmination and price increases are the only way to make up the difference, and that still wont be enough.

Good Luck!!!!! But when you or your friend gets laid off as a restructing measure, who are you going to blame then. You got your salary but at the expense of your fellow worker.5-1

I'll cop to having a Popeyes indulgence every couple months, but the recent pink-slime revelation stopped the occasional drive-through burger...

In the end we must change because they aren't going to change. We've gone along for the ride with the globalists and their bankers until we've damn near lost our country, but worse we've forfeited our integrity and commitment to justice for a "bowl of pottage" just like Esau, we've given up our birthright.

Some 1500 posts and just about all seem to be against $15/hr:

Price...I busted my rear at numerous minimum wage jobs when I was younger. It motivated me to go to college. You can take anyone off the street (English speaking or not as evidenced in all of CA) and have a functional cashier in 4 hours. Minimum wage jobs are not intended to give a person a living wage. They are meant to be the entry point into the workforce. Not as a life path. $15 an hour!!?? Are you kidding me? Most college grads I know would love to make that.23

Merryl You are INCORRECT. ALL WAGES ARE MEANT TO BE A LIVABLE WAGE since 1938. Why be against your fellow SLAVES? Be happy for them. 1-5

price OK I may have made an error there. A living wage does not include expenses for : cellphone, cable, internet, car, ect... you can easily find a room or place to rent and food for minimum wage. Even here in CA. 4

BrianE price---Liberalism is growing at a pace and scope never seen in modern US history. Combine that with people who were raised to get everything they want without having to do anything for it. These were the people who were taught that they are not responsible for themselves or their actions. They also got trophies just for participating.

When you put all of that into consideration it makes sense. But they still aren't worth $15/hr working fast food.

Another big push in this is unions. The unions are practically orgasmic in the possibility that they will be able to create the largest union membership ever!!

I started my job 10 years ago at $12/hr. After 10 years and learning to run several different multi-million $$$ machines I am up to $18/hr. These fast food as(c)lowns want $15 right out of the gate. If they get what they want everyone else is going to pay the price with much higher prices.

I predict if they get $15/hr the fast food industry will go through a dramatic change. If they don't they will lose a lot of business. Nobody is going to pay $15 for a value meal.

stuart If I were a franchise owner; I'd already be looking for replacement workers, to replace the ones about to get fired for walking off the job. As the article says; The are planning "sit ins" as part of their protest. Great, sit in wherever you want, except my store/s. Because if it is at my place of business, you could be arrested for trespassing, as you are no longer an employee. People have a free choice to accept what the job pays or not to work there, plain and simple. Here's a novel idea for those folks. Why don't you go and get educated, if you want to earn 15 bucks an hour, and get a job that will pay you what you need, instead of trying to turn Flipping Burgers into a career.34-1

WilliamC This is stupid. Fast food jobs are for young people, like my 19 yo daughter, who works part time while going to college. They were never meant to be jobs to support a family. If you are a girl who got pregnant, dropped out of school, and don't get child support from the father (assuming you know who is the actual father), then it is your own stupidity that put you in that position. Team with some other airheads, like yourself, and go back to school/get a GED and enter a community college program that will get you a decent job. 14-1

JOHN vs. JUAN Say you have two families: "John Legal" and "Juan Illegal". Both families have two parents, two children, and live in Arizona.

John Legal works in construction, has a Social Security Number and makes $25.00 per hour with taxes deducted.

Juan Illegal also works in construction, has NO Social Security Number, and gets paid $15.00 in cash "under the table".

Ready? Now pay attention....

John Legal: $25.00 per hour x 40 hours = $1000.00 per week, or $52,000.00 per year. Now take 30% away for state and federal tax; John Legal now has $31,231.00.

Juan Illegal: $15.00 per hour x 40 hours = $600.00 per week, or $31,200 per year. Juan Illegal pays no taxes. Juan Illegal now has $31,200.00.

John Legal pays medical and dental insurance with limited coverage for his family at $600.00 per month, or $7,200.00 per year. John Legal now has $24,031.00.

Juan Illegal has full medical and dental coverage through the state and local clinics and emergency hospitals at a cost of $0.00 per year. Juan Illegal still has $31,200.00. John Legal makes too much money and is not eligible for food stamps or welfare. John Legal pays $500.00 per month for food, or $6,000..00 per year. John Legal now has $18,031.00.

Juan Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for food stamps, WIC and welfare. Juan Illegal still has $31,200.00.

John Legal pays rent of $1,200.00 per month, or $14,400.00 per year. John Legal now has 9,631.00.

Juan Illegal receives a $500.00 per month Federal Rent Subsidy. Juan Illegal pays out that $500.00 per month, or $6,000.00 per year. Juan Illegal still has $ 31,200.00.

John Legal pays $200.00 per month, or $2,400.00 for car insurance. Some of that is uninsured motorist insurance. John Legal now has $7,231.00.

Juan Illegal says, "We don't need no stinkin' insurance!" and still has $31,200.00.

John Legal has to make his $7,231.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, etc..

Juan Illegal has to make his $31,200.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, and what he sends out of the country every month..

John Legal now works overtime on Saturdays or gets a part time job after work.

Juan Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family.

John Legal's and Juan Illegal's children both attend the same elementary school. John Legal pays for his children's lunches, while Juan Illegal's children get a government sponsored lunch. Juan Illegal's children have an after school ESL program. John Legal's children go home.

Now, when they reach college age, John Legal's kids may not get into a State School and may not qualify for scholarships, grants or other tuition help, even though John has been paying for state schools through his taxes, while Juan Illegal's kids "go to the top of the list" because they are a minority.

John Legal and Juan Illegal both enjoy the same police and fire services, but John paid for them and Juan did not pay.

If you vote for or support any politician that supports illegal aliens... You are part of the problem.20-2

NRD I feel and sense the frustration, but the math is wrong in several places. The federal income tax rate for 2014 for a married couple would be 15%. Since I don't know what state Koolaid is from I will use California as an example, and the tax rate would be 4%. The total tax rate would be 19%. John Legal would be left with $42,120 at the end of the year.

[Koolaid]

Bankrate website states 2014 married filing jointly with earnings between $18,151 to $73,800 is 15%. Regardless of 15%, 25% or 30% the point is there is little benefit to any community that allows illegals to live or work there. The only obvious motivation for allowing this country to be flooded with illegals is for their votes. Period.

Asinine and absurd statement if ever there was one.

Half the people in this country have IQs of less than 100 and are going nowhere. They're not going to get "educated" and get higher-paying jobs. Those who think that are are hallucinating.

By the way, McDonalds an Wal-Mart are two of the biggest tax-money whores in the U.S.
