Patrick Clawson is one of the most influential neo-cons in the Washington Institute for Near East Studies. Clawson was caught on a video that he likely never thought would see the light of day, openly suggesting that the United States should provoke Iran into taking the first shot at Israel.

Clawson is a well-known lobbyist for Israel. He is the director of research and head of the Iran Security Initiative at the Institute. He is the author or editor of eighteen books and studies on Iran as well as more than 150 articles on the Middle East. He has previously worked with the National Defense University, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund, among other institutions.
His suggestion seems to amount to advising a false flag of some sort in order to inaugurate a joint U.S. and Israeli war on Iran.
