A soldier standing guard at the National War Memorial was gunned down Wednesday morning, Ottawa police said.

“One shooting victim succumbed to injuries. He was a member of the Canadian Forces,” police said just before 2 p.m. in a release.

“One male suspect has also been confirmed deceased. There is no further update on injuries at this time.

“There is no one in custody.”

MP John Williamson of New Brunswick Southwest said earlier that a moment of silence followed the confirmation to the government caucus of the death of a Canadian Forces soldier.

“Condolences to family of the soldier killed, & prayers for the Parliamentary guard wounded,” Jason Kenney, the minister of employment, said on Twitter just before 1 p.m.

“Canada will not be terrorized or intimidated.”

The series of shootings in Ottawa started at 9:52 a.m. at the war memorial. The soldier was rushed by ambulance to Ottawa Civic Hospital.

The soldier shot is a member of the Hamilton’s Argylls of Canada — 91st Canadian Highlanders.

“All I saw was the boot,” Hamilton East-Stoney Creek MP Marston said, adding that he instantly recognized the regalia as the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.

“My heart just sank,” he said.

“He would have been standing there with an unloaded weapon,” Marston told the Hamilton Spectator. “It’s heart breaking – young man guarding our memorial . . . the symbolism.”

During the shooting rampage Marston was escorted out of a side door, through the Senate building and came out in front of the War Memorial as officials were performing CPR on the soldier.

Members of the Argylls were on tour guarding Ottawa’s War Memorial in the days before the shooting Wednesday, the Hamilton Spectator reports.

A photo posted on the Argylls Facebook page on Oct. 19 shows two of its regiment on guard. A photo circulating on Twitter from a tourist said to have taken the shot moments before the shooting appears to be the same uniforms.

Lt.-Col. Lawrence Hatfield, of the Commanding Officer of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada, referred comment to the Army’s public affairs department.

“I think the problem is that no notification has been done. So it would be extremely upsetting to the family. I would have to ask you to contact the public affairs people,” he said. “It is just a matter of due respect to the family.”

“We are on information lockdown.”

Halton Regional police have called a press conference about the shooting at 3 p.m.

Let's see how long until the muslim menace is glossed over and the Canadian government starts demonizing White gun-owners living in Alberta.

The BBC does not want to address this as a terrorist attack but according to FNC, the suspect shooter was described as a short blackman who was driving a vehicle with no license plates parked in the War Memorial parking lot and gained access into the building.

Much earlier this week there were reports of an attack in Canada on Monday. Still the media will not address this as a terrorist attack.

Also today while this attack was taking place in Ottawa, there was a reported terrorist attack in Jerusalem. http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/1.622192 One of the victims in Ottawa, Canada relayed this story about the possible Jerusalem connection to Ottawa concerning these attacks http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/1.622192

The U.S. military intelligence has yet to raise the terror alert concerning the attack on our neighboring allie, Canada.

Not going to happen.

1. PM Harper is the leader of the Conservative Party.

2. He represents a riding in Calgary, Alberta.

3. He's already gone on record previously as saying the gun registry was useless and a huge boondoggle by the Liberal Party.

4. Canada is pretty homogeneous - majority Caucasian. Harper has tried to down size immigration from Third World countries started by Trudeau and heavily pushed by Chretian. Canadians are uneasy with immigration from Third World countries based on my readings, unlike the low information lefty dummies in America.

5. I'd be shocked if Harper uses the phrase "religion of peace" in any of his upcoming pressers.

The RCMP will get the 2 other suspects at large.

When they find the suspects, they will kill 'em.

Count on it.

Nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide in Canada.

Population is approx. that of California - 30 Million.

Cdns. like cops - they will report any "new folks" appearing in their towns.

So there is more than one shooter at large?

There were 3 shooters according to reports I read.

3 different places were shots were fired.

Parliament, the Nat'l War Monument, a shopping mall.

1 has been killed in the Parliament bldg.

RCMP and Ottawa police are hunting the other 2 shooters.

They will find them probably by the end of the day and they will kill them.

I heard about those other shootings too. According to the Canadian police, there were no shootings at the shopping mall. Perhaps, they are lying about this trying to rule out terrorism.

There was an attack in Canada on Monday of this week by a similar group of people like what took place today. Canada is not up to speed on terrorism tactics like the U.S. as something like this is unusual in their area of the country. That is why the police are ruling out terrorism (which is way to quick for them to say at this time). ISIS has threatened to behead the Canadian PM. They attacked Ottawa today because that is one of the big financial centers that terrorists plot. Canada is one of our allies. I am watching Neil Cavuto on FNC named Wayne Simmons right now where one of his guests is actually saying this was indeed an Islamic terrorist attack. news.nationalpost.com/201...-secure-in-your-bedrooms/

A day or two ago a terrorist ran down 2 soldiers on the road in Quebec. One of the soldiers died. Authorities ( RCMP?) chased and killed the terrorist.

FYI - Toronto is the financial hub of Canada, not Ottawa. Ottawa is Canada's capital city. The attack was symbolic.

Here's more on today's terrorism in Ottawa.

You know, it's interesting how this link suddenly disappears after you try to read it. I never had this issue from any of their articles before until now. The Daily Mail can rule out terrorism as they wish but to those like me, I don't buy it. This attack was not symbolic but is significant and indeed was terrorism.

We must keep our eye on the ball.

This is a Zionist neocon wet dream – another AIPAC/ADL/New American Century victory!

The US military security complex is already counting the new funds it will receive as a result of this murder.

p.s. The word “blowback” will NEVER be mentioned by the Zionist owned Western media.

While at the bank I heard on the TV news that planes had been scrambled and are ready to fire missiles should it come to that.

What's next? Blimps with nukes circling the city.

A tragedy, fine, we all get it, but some of this shit is like something from the best movie comedy writers.

The day before this terrorism took place in Ottawa, a jihadist ran down 2 soldiers in Quebec, one of whom died.

This type of violence is very unusual in Canada.

Perhaps authorities thought there was more "home grown" jihadist violence in the works - ISIS is reportedly training pilots on Mig23's they seized from the Syrian military.

I don't see anything untoward with NORAD being put on high alert.

Not everything is about actors play acting terrorism.

Unless the MIGs have some in-flight refueling, they'll flame out and crash in the Atlantic.

No worries.

I think the idea is for them to be trained as pilots over there and then they come to Canada or the USA on tourist visas - or they might even be "home grown" jihadists returning home after a trip "abroad"- then they rent planes here and do their dirty deeds. By being trained "over there in their Muslim cesspools" they don't run the risk of raising eyebrows by taking flying lessons here.

ISIS is reportedly training pilots on Mig23's they seized from the Syrian military.

Joke of the Century. Yeah, a bunch of ragheads will train (where? with what course material? current instructors?? etc.) on out-of-service jets that are guaranteed to wobble into the air and crash on first flight. More of a threat to themselves and unlucky commoners that receive a jet crashing on their heads. The MSM hypes this unbelievable neocon bullshit day after day with no shame. The Japs had a better training program for their one-way kamikaze pilots in the summer of 1945 than the ISIS actors have in 2014.

Tough to rent MIGs in North Amerika.

Cross-training only works so far.

Going from Cryllic to Engrish can be tricky.

Once you learn to fly a plane, cross over knowledge is pretty decent.

The jihadists in Canada the past 2 days were born and raised Canadian citizens.

Aussies apparently have quite few of their own home grown's as well.

Going from a Cessna to a MIG or 757?

Please.
