WASHINGTON, October 28 (RIA Novosti) – US President Barack Obama is authorizing an investment of over $300 million in the manufacturing technologies sector to improve global competitiveness of the United States, according to the White House press release.

"The Departments of Defense, Energy, and Agriculture and NASA are committing to invest over $300 million in three emerging manufacturing technologies including advanced materials like composites and bio-based materials, advanced sensors, and digital manufacturing," said the press release issued on Monday.

The press release added that specialized research and development facilities will be accessible where advancing technology companies can examine and analyze their designs and prototypes and test new products and processes.

"U.S. manufacturing is central to the foundation of our economy, and the U.S. manufacturing sector is as competitive as it has been in decades for new jobs and investment," the press release confirmed.

In addition to the $300 million in investments, Obama is authorizing $130 million in competitive awards to incentivize small technology manufacturers and $100 million in apprenticeship grants in high-growth fields like advanced manufacturing, according to the press release.

The Obama administration has been continuously working with partnerships between government agencies, industry, and academia to improve multiple manufacturing industry processes and products in the United States.
