Democrats Love Domestic Spying & These 4 Politicians Prove It

19687653_sBy the way Democrats talk about it, you would think that George W. Bush was the president who trampled upon our rights to privacy and free speech more than any other president in history. They vilify him and, by extension, every Republican running for office before and since.

It’s apparent, though, that Democrats conveniently forget history because Democrat administrations have been spying on and arresting U.S. citizens for over a hundred years for opposing their policies. In fact, these violations often occurred, not only during Democratic administrations, but, often, directly due to the words and direction of that Democratic President.

So that you can school your Democrat friends, here’s some history:

In 1917, Democratic President, Woodrow Wilson, you know, the guy who got us into World War I, said, “Woe be to the man or group of men that seeks to stand in our way in this day of high resolution.” It then became criminal to oppose the war with the Espionage Act and, in 1918, to even publicly speak against the war with the Sedition Act. I suppose that’s just like we aren’t supposed to talk about Fast and Furious.

In 1940, Franklin D. Roosevelt, a progressive icon, if there ever was one, acted against statutes that prevented intercepting, i.e. wiretapping, and “publishing” any intercepted communication that was not intended for them. But FDR argued that this statute did not apply to him for the purposes that he had in mind. He said that the court wasn’t addressing national security concerns, and so he was justified on spying on Americans. Of course, our current President doesn’t try to justify their reading your email. He says they’re playing nice with it for our protection.

Robert Kennedy, as Attorney General, on more than one occasion, authorized surveillance of U.S. citizens through the COINTELPRO, counter intelligence program, through the FBI. It makes you feel like maybe we haven’t been told everything, doesn’t it?

And, our current President says that “there is no spying on Americans” and “we don’t have a domestic spying program.” We all know how untrue that is now. Just another lie he can add to his long list.

Benjamin Franklin would be turning over in his grave. If you’ll remember, his words on this are often paraphrased as “He who would trade liberty for some temporary security, deserves neither liberty nor security.” Well, he was right. We have less of both.

Time-sensitive: How does it feel to know you’re being watched right now?
