Did the election last week really mean that much?

Did the election last week really mean that much? I took to my Twitter account on Tuesday to point out that the change in control of the Senate from Democrat to Republican actually means very little, despite efforts by politicians and the mainstream media to convince us otherwise. Yes, power shifted, I wrote. But the philosophy on Capitol Hill changed very little. The warfare/welfare state is still alive and well in Washington.

Some were critical of my comment that, “Republican control of the Senate equals expanded neo-con wars in Syria and Iraq. Boots on the ground are coming!”

But unfortunately my fears were confirmed even sooner than I thought. Shortly after the vote, President Obama announced that he would double the number of US troops on the ground in Iraq and request another $5.6 billion to fight his war in the Middle East.

The President also said on Wednesday that he would seek a new authorization for the use of force in Iraq and Syria. He said that a new authorization was needed to reflect, “not just our strategy over the next two or three months, but our strategy going forward.”

That sounds like boots on the ground in an endless war.

Senate Democrats had been competing with Republicans over who would push a more aggressive foreign policy. This may explain their miserable showing on Tuesday: it is likely the honest, antiwar progressives just stayed home on election night. But with the Republican victory bringing to leadership the most hawkish of the neoconservatives like John McCain, the only fight over the President’s request to re-invade Iraq will be Republican demands that he send in even more soldiers and weapons!

Likewise, the incoming Republicans in the Senate have expressed a foolhardy desire to continue resurrecting the Cold War. They demand that Russia be further sanctioned even as the original reason for the sanctions – claims that Russia was behind the downing of Malaysian Airlines flight MH-17 – has been shown to be false. They want to send weapons to the US-backed government in Ukraine even through it will result in more civilians killed in east Ukraine. Their dangerous Russia policy may even turn the new Cold War into a hot war, which would be catastrophic.

On the domestic front, I do not hold out much hope that the next Congress will give more than lip service to reducing spending. What is more likely is Republicans will support dramatic increases in welfare spending as long warfare spending is increased by an equivalent, or greater, amount. That is what is called “compromise” in Washington.

One positive development from Tuesday is the slightly improved chance for a roll-call vote on “Audit the Fed.” Most of the Senators who are likely to assume leadership roles next year are co-sponsors of the bill. However, special interests that benefit from Fed secrecy are very influential in both parties, so it will be up to the people to continue to pressure Congress for a Senate vote.

Elsewhere, there may also be some rollbacks and reforms of some of the worst parts of ObamaCare, but a full repeal of the bill is unlikely. This is not just because there are still not the votes to override an inevitable veto. The insurance and pharmaceutical lobbies that benefit from ObamaCare are equally influential in both parties and have very deep pockets.

I ended my comments on election night by pointing out that while it may have been an important election, it was not most important ever. Ideas are what really count. And that is where we are winning!

Like Dr.Paul, I'll believe change, when I see some change in deecee.

“The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out... without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable.” ~ H. L. Mencken

Is Obama a Neocon or a Democrat? Is Senator Rand Paul a Republican or a Neocon? Our troops were supposed to be on their way home two days after the midterm elections because Congress decidedly did not authorize any extended time before the 90-day limit was over. All troops home now.

Edited sentence 2.

VETERANS DAY: Grandpa, why did you fight in the war?

Grandpa was stunned by his granddaughter’s question.

“Sweetheart, I fought to make sure you have the opportunity to be free.”

“Grandpa, are you sure you even won the war? My teacher doesn’t believe America is the greatest nation on earth anymore. He said America needs a wake-up call. It made me sad. He made us watch a clip from an HBO show called Newsroom. It’s great. I want you to watch it on my iPad. It’s only 4-minutes long. CLICK HERE

The teacher then gave us a homework assignment to determine if we believe America is the greatest nation on earth. Grandpa, you may have fought for freedom but today’s generation has surrendered freedom without a shot being fired.

Grandpa, let me ask you a few questions:

Did you fight to stop the Nazis from murdering millions of Jews so Americans could murder 50 million babies?

Did you fight so veterans’ medical needs would be ignored so government could feed, house, educate and medically care for illegal aliens?

Did you fight so the 2014 Index of Economic Freedom would rank the U.S.A. at number 12? Grandpa, Canada’s economy is freer than ours.

Did you fight so the 2013/2014 Global Competitive Index would rank the U.S.A at number 5? One of America’s World War II enemies, Germany, is ranked as number 4. What is that all about?

Did you fight so American students would continue to slide to 30th in the world in math, 23rd in science and 20th in reading?

Did you fight so schools would only teach the atheist religion of evolution and eliminate Judeo-Christian teaching of creationism?

Did you fight so we couldn’t say Merry Christmas or have a Nativity scene at school?

Did you fight so we couldn’t pray in school?

Did you fight so we could celebrate “earth day” instead of Christmas Day?

Did you fight so our Christmas tree would be replaced with a holiday tree?

Did you fight so the federal government could rack up debt of $186,296 per citizen? Grandpa, I’m gonna need one of those big piggy banks? I think it’s called the Michael Moore Piggy Bank.

Did you fight so kids would be forced to turn their U.S.A. shirts inside out to avoid conflicts at school?

Did you fight so government could worry more about what students eat than what they learn?

Did you fight so our libraries could provide free movies and meals to freeloaders at the expense of their neighbors?

Did you fight so TSA agents could fondle your grandkids at the airport?

Did you fight so our government could control and over-regulate our water, air, food, education, healthcare and businesses?

Did you fight so our government could control where you’re permitted to smoke outside the battlefield?

Did you fight so the government could own 30% of all U.S. land?

Did you fight so the government could make us dependent on foreign oil?

Did you fight so we could have taxation without representation by unelected centralized-planning socialist in Washington D.C. and in own communities?

Is that what you fought for Grandpa? See Grandpa, you didn’t need to go to war. Didn’t you hear? “We the People” surrendered America to the marxist, socialist and communist a long time ago. America’s freedoms are just an illusion. The government controls everything. It must be okay with Americans because no one fought back.”

Grandpa was shocked by his granddaughter’s heartbreaking speech. With tears in his eyes he softly said, “Sweetheart, I didn’t fight for any of that. I fought our enemies on foreign soil. I failed to realize I needed to fight our enemies on U.S. soil. The fight for freedom never ends. I’m sorry!”

“We the People” have let our veterans down. They did their job. We didn’t do our job defending freedom. This Veterans Day I will not be thanking a veteran. I plan on apologizing for my passive behavior and vow to start doing my job of fighting for freedom.
