WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declined on Tuesday an invitation to meet with U.S. Senate Democrats during his trip to Washington next week.

"Though I greatly appreciate your kind invitation to meet with Democratic Senators, I believe that doing so at this time could compound the misperception of partisanship regarding my upcoming visit," Netanyahu wrote in a letter to Senators Richard Durbin and Dianne Feinstein obtained by Reuters.

Durbin and Feinstein, two senior Senate Democrats, invited Netanyahu to a closed-door meeting with Democratic senators in a letter on Monday, warning that making U.S.-Israeli relations a partisan political issue could have "lasting repercussions."

Republican congressional leaders broke diplomatic protocol by consulting neither the White House nor Democrats in Congress before inviting Netanyahu to address a joint meeting of the House of Representatives and Senate.

Netanyahu has faced criticism at home and abroad for his decision to address the U.S. Congress two weeks before Israeli elections and at a sensitive point in international negotiations on Iran's nuclear program.

In his letter, Netanyahu said he agreed "wholeheartedly" that strong ties between the United States and Israel have been built on bipartisan support. "I also fully understand the importance of bipartisan support for ensuring that our alliance remains strong in the future," he wrote.

He expressed appreciation for the opportunity to address lawmakers from both parties on Tuesday and said he regretted that the invitation has been perceived by some as partisan.

"I can assure you my sole intention in accepting it was to voice Israel's grave concerns about a potential nuclear agreement with Iran that could threaten the survival of my country," Netanyahu wrote.

He said he would be glad to address a bipartisan meeting of senators during a future visit to Washington.

Spokesmen for Durbin and Feinstein could not immediately be reached for comment.

I have to wonder if one day the Conservatives and Liberals will get into a real civil battle brought on by all the #$%$ going on? I wonder which side would win? I know Alaska, Texas, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, Northern California, North Dakota, South Dakota, North Carolina, South Carolina, Northern Georgia, Kansas, Oklahoma, Wyoming and up state NY would be Conservative. Texas and Alaska the oil states already got cessation on they're minds. I don't know about the other states listed? Here in Alaska I know the majority of us are sick of all the Liberal #$%$ as well as all our friends and family in Texas. But it's not smart to admit to being a Liberal in Alaska or Texas anyway. Speaking as an American Jew I am both disappointed and ashamed that Bibi is effectively ignoring the fact that the American government is comprised of both Democrats and Republicans. How can he effectively acknowledge one and ignore the other? Bonehead had no business inviting him - isn't that the job of the leader of the country? It's obvious that he (Bonehead) is continuing to embarrass the President with a lot of support in the Congress. I applaud the Democrats for choosing to be absent during the speech. Someone needs to remind Bibi of the tons of financial support his country receives from the United States. More Expand Replies (29) Reply [Susan] Susan 7 hours ago 66 36

In 1917 the Balfour Declaration said a Jewish homeland was to be established in Palestine. At this time Jordan, and Israel were both part of Palestine.

In 1918, all the rest of the Middle East 99% was given to the Muslims, with the fall of the Ottoman empire in WWI.

In 1920 the San Remo Resolution made the Balfour Declaration official.

In 1921 the British gave Jordan, which was supposed to be part of Israel, and is three times as big as Israel to the Arabs.

In 1922 the international community, the entire League of Nations unanimously voted to recognize the Jewish homeland between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. This document "Mandate of Palestine" is still international law today.

In 1925, the United States recognized the validity of the League of nations historic document "Mandate of Palestine" In the little known Anglo-American Treaty, and granted the Jewish people the right by international law to settle between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.

In 1945 the UN was created and replaced the League of Nations. Article 80 of the UN charter says all international treaties before the UN was created are still valid, which includes the League of Nation Mandate.

Between 1922-1947 six million Jews died in Europe during the Holocaust. During this time both Jews and Arabs started flocking to the mostly vacant British Mandate of Palestine. During this time, Jews, Muslims, and Christians where all called Palestinians. This name was given to Israel by the Romans after they destroyed the second temple in 70 A.D. Many Jews fleeing Europe that went to the British Mandate were sent back to Europe to die. See the White Papers.

In 1947 the UN wanted to take more land away from the Jewish homeland and came up with UN resolution 181. This resolution would has gave the Arabs everything they are currently asking for except that Jerusalem would be an international city. The Jews people desperate for peace signed this document, but the Arabs rejected signing this document because they wanted all of Israel to be Muslim.

In 1948 Israel declared their Independence. At this time the land of Israel was 8.6% Jewish owned, 3.3% owned by Israeli-Arabs, 16.9 was abandoned by Arabs that ran away to make way for the attacking Arab armies, the rest, about 70% was owned by the mandatory power, which Israel inherited.

The Arabs were not able to take all of Israel, but were able to take Judea and Samaria (The West Bank) and the Gaza Strip. This is where the 1949 armistice lines comes from.

Between 1949 and 1967, all of Israel was being regularly hit by rocket fire. These borders became known as Auschwitz borders.

In 1967 the Soviets supplied arms to the Arabs. The armies of Kuwait, Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Iraq fed troops to the Egyptian, Syrian and Jordanian fronts formed along Israels borders as well as a naval blockade.

In a preemptive strike Israel was able to take back the occupied lands of Judea and Samaria, as East Jerusalem, in the Six Day War.

The UN was able to get a cease fire with UN resolution 242.

UN 242 is the most important UN resolution for peace in the Israeli-Arab conflict. From the Egypt-Israel treaty of peace, Jordan-Israel peace treaty to the Madrid Peace Conference to the Oslo Accords.

UN Resolution 242 called for Israel to withdraw from “territory”, not “All territory” and that the borders of such a withdrawal were meant to reflect each states right to live in “secure and recognized” boundaries.

In the Egypt-Israel treaty of peace Israel agreed to withdraw from the Sinai Peninsula. Thus Israel is in compliance with UN Resolution 242. Reply

Quotes from Rabbi Michael Lerner article in Huffington Post;

"American Jews are Asking Our non-Jewish Neighbors To Stand With us Against Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's alliance with American Militarists."

"We have a big problem: the Israeli Prime Minister wants to drag the US into a proxy war for Israel against Iran, and Jews are likely to get the blame when that war turns out be an even bigger disaster than the US war in Iraq."

"Most importantly, while he is coming to align himself with American militarists in both parties with the aim of pressuring President Obama to make demands on the Iranians that will be impossible for them to meet, and then pushing the U.S. into military action against Iran, most American Jews support President Obama's attempts to negotiate a peaceful path that would allow Iran to develop nuclear power for peaceful purpose but would prohibit it from developing nuclear weapons." Netanyahu knows that he will bet nothing from the GREAT ONE, Obama and his side kick Kerry. So why waste his time and effort. Obama is squarely in the Moslin tent and has done a great job of helping Iran in develop all aspects of its atomic program. He has done more to destroy America's leadership in the world than any president befroe him with the exception of Jimmy Carter. His community organizer skills did not transfer well into his presidential job and that has been clear from the the diseaster called Obama Care, his pulling all troops out of Iraq, stupid involvement in Libya setting it up for Isis who now controls it. Mr. Community Orgtanizer has made the world a lot more dangerous for the U.S. than when he took over the presidency.6 years ago. Netanyahu also knews that what Obama preomises and what he delivers are two very different things. We saw how truthful the president is in his statements and promises about the Heath Care bill. He has not problems giving false informatiion or breaking promises when it's convenient. He maybe president but he has acted much like a community ogranizer. It's not suprising that Netanyahu decided to speak to the House of Representatives. They will treat him with the repsect he deserves as a head of state. More [Zilk] Zilk 7 hours ago 4 2

He has no idea of what Israel goes through with dealing with terrorist countries like Iran because he is an American Jew who has no moral connections to Israel. Of course Bebe won't talk to the Democrats. He's chosen his side. That's why he won't speak to the President of the United States. To him: the world is war. He'd sooner go up in flames than compromise.

For those who are students of history, you'll find a similar attitude amongst an ancient and extinct Jewish sect. They called themselves zealots. They went up in flames rather than compromise with the Romans. There is a good reason why they aren't around any more.

Bebe has forgotten Masada, which is quite near those west bank settlements that he won't compromise on. Those who forget history are bound to repeat it. Expand Replies (20) Reply [Joe] Joe 6 hours ago 26 10

Barak Hussein Obama II is an opponent of free speech except to himself and those that agree with him on everything. He has tried to stifle Fox News and even the IRS has tried to do the same on his behalf. The precedents for speeches of these kinds are listed below. Netanyahu is not here to win votes from the American people in an election in Israel. That pig just won't fly.

The Marquis de Lafayette, the French general and Revolutionary War hero, was the first foreign dignitary to address the House of Representatives. Lafayette delivered a speech before a meeting in the House Chamber on December 10, 1824.

The first non-head of state to address a Joint Meeting of Congress was Polish Solidarity Leader Lech Walesa in 1989. Nelson Mandela, then Deputy President of the African National Congress addressed a Joint Session in 1990.

Including Petro Poroshenko, President of Ukraine, who addressed a Joint Meeting of Congress on 18 September 2014, there have been 114 Joint Meeting addresses delivered by foreign leaders and dignitaries extending back to King David Kalakaua of Hawaii in 1874.

Including Petro Poroshenko, President of Ukraine, 110 leaders or dignitaries have addressed Joint Meetings of Congress. (Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela, and Yitzak Rabin have addressed Congress multiple times.)

Eleven (11) monarchs or royalty have addressed Joint Meetings of Congress

Twelve (12) women have addressed Joint Meetings of Congress. Queen Juliana of the Netherlands was the first (3 April 1952). Others who followed include: Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands (21 April 1982), UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (20 February 1985), Philippine President Corazon C. Aquino (18 September 1986), Prime Minister of Pakistan (7 June 1989), Nicaraguan President Violeta Barrios de Chamorro (16 April 1991), Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom (16 May 1991), Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia (15 March 2006), Vaira Vike-Freiberga, President of Latvia (7 June 2006), Dr. Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany (3 November 2009), Julia Gillard, Prime Minister of Australia (9 March 2011), and Park Geun Hye, President of the Republic of Korea (8 May 2013).

Two different families have had multiple generations of descendents address the Congress. Both Queen Juliana (1952), and her daughter Queen Beatrix (1982) have addressed Joint Sessions. Queen Wilhelmina (Juliana’s mother and Beatrix’s grandmother) addressed the Senate with the House as an invited guest in 1942. Both King Hussein I (1994) and King Hussein II (2007) have addressed Joint Sessions.

The years in which the greatest number of foreign leaders or dignitaries have addressed Joint Meetings of Congress: 1976 (5), 1985 (5), 1954 (4), 1959 (4), 1960 (4), 1989 (4), and 1994 (4).

France and Great Britain have the distinction of sending the most leaders or dignitaries to deliver joint meeting addresses before Congress, with eight Joint Meeting addresses by heads of state or dignitaries a piece. In descending order other countries leading the list of Joint Meeting addresses include: Israel (7), Mexico (7), Italy (6), Ireland (6), the Republic of Korea (6), Germany, including West Germany and unified Germany (5), India (4), Canada (3), Argentina (3), Australia (3), and the Philippines (3).

Winston Churchill made more addresses to Congress than any other individual. He addressed Joint Meetings in 1941, 1943, and 1952. Nelson Mandela of South Africa has addressed Congress twice, in 1990 and 1994.

Yitzak Rabin of Israel also addressed Joint Meetings of Congress on two occasions, in 1976 and 1994. More Expand Replies (15) Reply

History About Israel

You have a lot of misconceptions, and you make several statements that are simply incorrect. But MOST Christians, sadly, have many of the same thoughts and misconceptions. Hopefully the following information will help discern truth from myth. At Compass, we defend a literal translation of the Bible. And God made unconditional promises to Abraham. For instance:

I will give (the land of Israel) to you and to your descendants forever. —Genesis 13:15. See also Genesis 12:1-3, 7; 13:14-17; 15:1-21; 17:1-21; 22:17-18.

The fulfillment of those promises was not based on Israel's obedience, and they had no expiration date. Through these promises God would: 1.bring the world a Messiah/Savior via Israel's blood line, 2.make Israel's name great, 3.give Israel the land as an everlasting possession, and 4.bless those who bless Israel and curse those who curse Israel. "Unconditional" means those promises are still in effect today. Not all of Abraham's sons were promised peace and prosperity. Only Abraham's son Isaac and Isaac's son Jacob (later named Israel) were to receive God's blessing. Abraham's descendants from his illegitimate son Ishmael were prophesied to be wild fighters.

The angel of the LORD said to her further, "Behold, you are with child, And you will bear a son; And you shall call his name Ishmael, Because the LORD has given heed to your affliction. He will be a wild donkey of a man, His hand will be against everyone, And everyone's hand will be against him; And he will live to the east of all his brothers." —Genesis 16:11-12

All Arabs trace their ancestry to Ishmael, not Isaac. Yes, the U.S. Government supported Israel, up until the Obama administration, for a number of reasons . . . and one big one is that Israel is the only democracy (stability) in the area. The Israeli government purchases military gear from many nations, including the U.S., for protection of its citizens and to defend its borders. The Muslims are given guns and ammo from the U.N. that are used to kill Israelis. On our scores of mission trips to Israel, we have never seen an American flag on any Israeli government vehicle. After the defeat of the Ottomans in World War I, the land we today call Israel, Jordan, Gaza and the West Bank was given the name "Palestine" and given to Israel—first through the Balfore declaration in 1917 and later by the League of Nations in 1922 (yes, you read that correctly!). We believe it was God's provincial hand at work. Israel, called Palestine, was Jewish. Due to Arab complaints, 80% of the land initially given to Israel was given to the Arabs and called Trans-Jordan. This was in addition to what was already given to the Arabs—i.e., Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and others. After 300 years of Arab rule, Israel, in 1922, was a total wasteland practically devoid of vegetation. No one wanted it. Between 1922 and 1948 Israelis began moving back to that wasteland, paying huge premiums for land, draining the swamps, planting trees, building houses. After World War II, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi and Israel were given nation status by the United Nations. If Israel was illegitimate, then Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Saudi are also illegitimate. The United Nations gave Israel only about 20% of the original land she was apportioned by the League of Nations in 1922, but Israel agreed to take what was offered following the horrific World War II holocaust. The day Israel was given official nation status, May 14, 1948, she was attacked by six Muslim nations. Outnumbered 6 to 1, with no official government or army, it was nothing less than a miracle that she fought off the attack and survived. The Arab countries publicly proclaimed that their objective was to push Israel into the sea. During that war, Jordan took over Judea and Samaria (what is today referred to as the West Bank) and illegally "occupied" those areas until 1967. Egypt took over Gaza and illegally occupied it. During the Israeli war for independence in 1948, Arab leaders told the Arabs living in Israel to flee because the Jews would kill them. Those who knew better stayed home and are now citizens of Israel, can vote, and have elected Muslims to represent them in the Israeli government. These Arabs in Israel have the highest standard of living for a middle class of any group of Arabs in the Middle East. The surrounding Arab nations refused to absorb their Arab brothers who fled and instead have kept them in "refugee camps" in the West Bank and Gaza. On the other hand, Jews living in Arab nations moved to Israel and were totally assimilated. In 1967 six nations again went to war against Israel. In six days Israel recovered Judea and Samaria (the West Bank), Gaza, the Golan Heights, and also won the Sinai Peninsula, which had enough oil reserves to make Israel independent in its fuel needs. Two nations, Egypt and Syria, attacked again in 1973 on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year for Israelis. Though caught completely off-guard, Israel again defeated the unprovoked Arab invasion. In 1978, Israel agreed to give back the Sinai (and the oil reserves) to Egypt in a peace effort and has remained at peace with Egypt to this day. Israel made peace with Jordan in 1994. Israel has abided by every peace agreement she has signed, while the "Palestine" Arabs have NEVER done what they agreed to do . . . NEVER ONCE! So you can see a lot of media error in their reporting about the Israeli Arab situation. There has never been an Arab "Palestinian State." There is no history, no culture, no currency, no anything until the media mislabeled them with the Palestine name around 1948. Up until 1948, Palestine was Israel! Modern day Jordan, originally to be part of the new Israel, was given to the Arabs for their "Palestine." The media also gave the name "West Bank" to the Judea/Samaria area. It has ALWAYS been part of Israel. Israel is not illegally occupying it today, but Jordan DID illegally occupy it from 1948 to 1967. And Egypt illegally occupied Gaza during the same period. And, during Jordan's and Egypt's occupation and total control of these areas, not once did the Arabs try to make a new country called Palestine. But none of the above explains what the real problem is. The real problem is that the Koran, a book devoid of the words "love" and "Jerusalem," teaches that the Muslims will one day rule the world in Allah's name (Allah is NOT Jehovah God). Muslims are commanded to kill infidels—Jews, Christians, and anyone else who does not submit to the Muslim faith. This was the basis for the 9/11 attacks, as well as other attacks around the world. Even today Arab children are taught in their public schools that Allah says it is OK to kill Christians and Jews. In contrast, the Bible teaches that a Jewish Messiah will one day rule the world . . . from Jerusalem, from a throne on the Temple Mount on Mt. Moriah. So this is certainly not an issue over land. It's not an issue of the "Palestinian people." It is simply an issue of "whose God is the real God?" Is it Allah or Jehovah God? We believe the Bible; therefore, we believe we should support Israel whenever possible. The recent move away from supporting Israel is heart-breaking. Always remember that God says Israel is His land and Israelis are His chosen people. The Bible says the Jews would "execute" their Messiah (Daniel 9:26) and God would disperse the Jews around the world for approximately 2000 years. They would be persecuted in their dispersion but would remain a pure race until He gathered them back into their homeland in preparation for the Messiah's Second Coming (Ezekiel 37). God also implores us to pray for peace in Jerusalem. And most fascinating, God says He will bless those who bless Israel. We can think of no better way to bless Israel than to support her effort to defend the land that both God (and the United Nations) gave her. If you are against Israel, you are against God. The images you see on television of tanks rumbling through streets with bands of rock throwers pelting the Israeli military are not from Israel. They are scenes from Gaza and occasionally cities on the west rim of Samaria (West Bank). Today, Israel proper is virtually indistinguishable from any American city. Tel Aviv looks similar to downtown Seattle, Washington . . . with the obvious exception that the signs are in Hebrew. We organize trips to this special place as often as we have people willing to go. We take our spouses and children, stroll the streets, and visit the hundreds of Old and New Testament sites like the Sea of Galilee, the Mount of Olives, the Garden of Gethsemane, and the Empty Tomb. In over eighteen years of traveling the Holy Land, we have never once seen a rock thrown, heard a gun shot, or seen a tank in a street. Since 1948 not a single person on a pilgrimage traveling to Israel to see the biblical sites has ever been killed or maimed. Israel is just as safe, if not safer, than here in the U.S. Therefore, we encourage all who really want to understand their spiritual roots to go to Israel while we can still go there. We know it will change the way you read your Bible and forever affect the way you view Israel. It's one of the few eternal investments you can make in this life. Since you've hung in there and read this much about Israel, God's special place on earth, we'll give you a special price on a stand-up-and-yell presentation entitled The Miracle of Israel. This awesome presentation was recorded at one of our Steeling the Mind Bible Conferences, and we're pretty sure that after watching it, you'll pass it around and maybe join us or another group visiting Israel! scarlook Quotes from Rabbi Michael Lerner article in Huffington Post; "American Jews are Asking Our non-Jewish Neighbors To Stand With us Against Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's alliance with American Militarists." "We have a big problem: the Israeli Prime Minister wants to drag the US into a proxy war for Israel against Iran, and Jews are likely to get the blame when that war turns out be an even bigger disaster than the US war in Iraq." "Most importantly, while he is coming to align himself with American militarists in both parties with the aim of pressuring President Obama to make demands on the Iranians that will be impossible for them to meet, and then pushing the U.S. into military action against Iran, most American Jews support President Obama's attempts to negotiate a peaceful path that would allow Iran to develop nuclear power for peaceful purpose but would prohibit it from developing nuclear weapons." 32-121

kgkg62 Its amazing the powerplay the Prime Minister of a foreign country is trying to use to bring us to war again on their behalf and the Republicans cheerfully selling us out to do it for the cash. 6-2

scarlook Netanyahu speaks for only 20% of the Jews in Israel favoring war. That is why he always have coalition party to assemble his cabinet members. Now American Jews do not support this war mongering liar who is coming to throw some cash at American militarist to go to war with Iran 3-2

Jeanne 7 hours ago 4 0 Who said the Netanyahu wants to get Americans involved in war in the middle east? Rabbi Lerner? Who is he anyway? Just another liberal Jew who voted Obama into office and now this Jew wants to spit in Netanyahu's face for trying to keep his people safe from terrorists? We should have a president in America who protects his people from illegal aliens and terrorists who penetrate our borders to murder us. Don't support this coward rabbi with his alliance because he is spitting in the face of the one man who is trying to save his sorry #$%$ by not having a bad agreement with Iran over nukes. Remember Rabbi, if Israel goes down so will America be next and thanks to liberals like you. -4

kgkg62 Jeanne you are so FOS its sickening. SO you really think if " they take Israel down America is next" How in hell do you figure that? More scare tactics to try to scare people into continuing to scarifice our men and women defending a country that spies on us, steals from us, bribes our elected officials and interferes with the internal workings of our government. We owe Israel nothing. They have done nothing for us and we have done everything for them. This needs to be a more reciprical relationship and their buying up congressmen needs to cease. The US needs to make decisions for whats good for her rather than Israel. If you do not like that I suggest you find a nice Kibbutz on the west bank and move your sorry butt there as soon as possible because its obvious you care more for Israel than you do America. 3
