RT...

Opposition politician Boris Nemtsov died in the center of Moscow after he was shot at four times. A number of leading figures from all sides of political spectrum called his murder a "provocation". :

One of the possible motives behind Nemtsov’s killing could be to destabilize the political situation in Russia, the Investigative Committee said. 09:56 GMT:

The assassination of Boris Nemtsov may have possible links to Ukraine events as well as Islamist extremist attacks, Russia’s Investigative Committee said. 09:56 GMT:

Investigators have information that Boris Nemtsov received threats in connection with his position on the Charlie Hebdo shootings in Paris, said Vladimir Markin, the spokesman for the Russian Investigative Committee. 09:56 GMT:

The investigation into Nemtsov’s assassination is a matter of high priority, but one shouldn’t interfere with it and wait, said Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov. 09:56 GMT:

Russian authorities will do everything to solve Nemtsov’s murder and ensure the perpetrators are punished, said Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko. 09:32 GMT:

At least 200 people have gathered at Vasilyevsky Spusk in central Moscow, on a bridge leading to Red Square, where Nemtsov was killed, according to RIA Novosti. Flowers and a portrait of Nemtsov can be seen on the bridge. 09:31 GMT:

Boris Nemtsov will be buried in Moscow, Aleksandr Kotusov, the former press secretary of the opposition leader, told Tass news agency. 09:26 GMT:

"[Like] many people in Russia, we are shocked by the cold-blooded murder of a prominent opposition leader on the streets of Moscow. Our sympathy goes out to his family and friends,” German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said.

According to the German FM, in Nemtsov Russia has lost “an experienced politician who was willing to take responsibility for his country.” 09:21 GMT:

People in Moscow are bringing flowers to pay tribute to Boris Nemtsov near the Kremlin, where the Russian opposition leader was shot dead. 08:38 GMT:

In the last couple of hours before the deadly shooting, Nemtsov had dinner at a restaurant inside GUM, the famous department store on Red Square, with the woman he was with when he was shot. She was later identified by police as Ukrainian model Anna Duritskaya, 23.

According to Duritskaya, the two then went for a walk at about 23:00 Moscow time (20:00 GMT). 07:51 GMT:

France’s president, Francois Hollande, has denounced Nemtsov’s murder. “Boris Nemtsov was a courageous and tireless defender of democracy and a fierce fighter against corruption,” Hollande said in a statement. 07:49 GMT:

Sergey Mironov, the leader of Fair Russia political party, said that the murder of Boris Nemtsov is a provocation from those who want to destabilize the situation in Russia.

“This assassination is a clear provocation. It was organized and made by those who want to destabilize the situation in Russia,” Mironov said. 07:46 GMT:

Nemtsov was threatened in social media several months ago, his aide in the State Duma, Olga Vakhrina said.

Right....

That story about shooter in speeding auto, is nonsense.

We will have a dozen videos showing CIA drones swooping in and doing the dastardly deed.

Frame up job on Putin, just terrible.

Have we heard from our own Mr. Lenderman yet? He never fails to comment on a political killing like this. His silence will speak volumes.

Never mind. Silly, silly me. He already has the case solved.

Nemtsov was a Western financed self-serving opportunist. His killing has all the earmarks of a US- staged false flag.

SO IT IS WRITTEN; SO IT IS TRUE.

Vladimir Putin blamed for mysterious radiation poisoning death of former KGB spy

The mysterious death of the former KGB spy Alexander Litvinenko in Britain in 2006 is already a strong contender for crime of the century. Litvinenko died horribly of radiation poisoning, after drinking tea laced with the radioactive isotope polonium-210. Many have long pointed the finger at Russia's secret intelligence apparatus the FSB - under the alleged orders of the former KGB man, president Vladimir Putin. Now an official inquiry into the apparent murder has begun in London

And in the wake of the latest piece of nastiness we once again as ourselves "Who benefits?"

Was it Putin? Local hoods perhaps? Was it Obama-Soros or someone else hooked up at that level?

Motivation is often the key to identifying the perps in a homicide.

So, we need to ask ourselves: What could Putin gain from the killing of Nemtsov? On first sight, it might appear that he had plenty to gain, for the two were clearly at odds about the future direction of Russia. But with an 85% popularity rating—by far the highest of any politician on our war-ridden planet—Putin has no need to assassinate his opponents.

Moreover, according to the facts put forward by a CIA-sponsored publication, and despite attempts to lionize the likes of Kasparov and Nemtsov in the Western captive media, Nemtsov was a political small potato who posed no threat whatsoever to the immensely popular Putin. Thus, Wikipedia tells us: “In the parliamentary elections of December 2003 the Union of Rightist Forces, whose list was headed by both Nemtsov and Chubais, received just 2.4 million votes, or 4% of the total, thus falling short of the 5% threshold necessary to enter Parliament and losing all of its seats in the State Duma.” Nemtsov didn’t even manage to get elected as mayor of Sochi, winning a mere 14% of the vote in the 2009 mayoral elections of that city. Putin would have to be not only ruthless but insane to order the killing of such an obviously unpopular fifth columnist.

This from the media.

I hope no one here has to have it explained in detail what the author is indicating...

"""Nemtsov’s death was a bitter bookend to the hopes that had accompanied the dashing, Western-style politician in the heady years after the breakup of the Soviet Union as he took a lead role in plunging Russia into capitalism. Now many of those reforms have been undone, with Putin taking near-absolute, personal control of the country and re-nationalizing broad swathes of the economy."""

I get a real kick out of comments which imply that Putin used to be some head honcho of the KGB. He was simply an analyst, he wasn't an operative.

How many US news reports called Bush #1, a "former CIA man"? Oddly people forget that he was the DIRECTOR of Central Intelligence, not some lowly analyst.

Oh and BTW, the FSB isn't so secret, it's pretty much like the American FBI.

Western-style politician in the heady years after the breakup of the Soviet Union as he took a lead role in plunging Russia into capitalism.

And Putin helped former president Boris Yeltsin avoid an attempted takeover of the government by former KGB elements. Look it up.

There's probably as much chance of solving that case as there is of solving who was behind the downing of MH-17. Funny how the west seems to have swept that incident under the rug.

Thanks. I just have a knack for picking apart propaganda which contain elements designed to inflame emotions, as all "good" propaganda must have in order to be effective.

Actually, in Russia, such cases are always solved.

Rest assured a few people will be shot or hung.

Best bet? Muslims are most likely to have done the deed.

Putin may have American worshipers but he is not stupid.

He has to extricate himself from Ukraine affair, but not this way. Russia is near financial collapse, again, and if that happens Putin goes with it.

Putin is not stupid but he made a grave miscalculation not so much about the Ukraine ( the Ukraine is a lowly pawn in the eyes of the West, always has been and always will be) but rather about Syria.

After Putin prevented yet another useless ME war ( regime change in Syria which Saudi Arabia and Israel and the USA wanted to do) the Saudis opened the oil spigot driving down the price of oil, devastating Russia's economy which now threatens Putin's political career.

Putin is no angel but neither are Western and ME leaders. There are no heroes on the world's political stage these days.
