Soviet ex-President Mikhail Gorbachev sees the assassination of opposition politician Boris Nemtsov as an attempt to destabilize Russia

Soviet ex-President Mikhail Gorbachev sees the assassination of opposition politician Boris Nemtsov as an attempt to destabilize Russia. He also warns against calls to give excessive powers to law enforcement and security agencies.

“The assassination of Boris Nemtsov is an attempt to complicate the situation in the country, even to destabilize it by ratcheting up tensions between the government and the opposition,” Gorbachev said.“Just who did this is hard to say, let’s not jump to any conclusions right now and give the investigators time to sort this all out,” he added.

Gorbachev did not rule out that the high-profile murder could encourage some people to urge the authorities to introduce a state of emergency, which he said would only exacerbate what is already a difficult situation.

Boris Nemtsov was shot and killed in downtown Moscow on Friday night by unknown assassins who fired at least six shots at the opposition politician before taking off in a white car, probably a Ford Focus or Ford Mondeo, which is currently being sought by police.

Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned the assassination and expressed his condolences to the family. “Putin has stressed that this brutal murder has all [the] signs of a contract murder and is extremely provocative,” presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Saturday.

“With all due respect to the memory of Boris Nemtsov, in political terms he did not pose any threat to the current Russian leadership or Vladimir Putin. If we compare popularity levels, Putin’s and the government’s ratings and so on, in general Boris Nemtsov was just a little bit more than an average citizen,” Peskov added.

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, meanwhile, urged the law enforcement agencies to make every effort to track down the perpetrators of the “ghastly assassination of a prominent politician.”

Whoa nelly....more than 80% of the Russia population supports Putin and the annexation of the Crimea. Nemtsov and a small minority opposed it. How does killing such a fringe figue with an unpopular position destabilize Russia?

It isn't the average russian who "They're" trying to turn. It's world opinion. I don't think it's gonna work, though. The rest of the world has been on to "Them" since 9/11/01.

I don't get the world opinion thing. The average American doesn't know what day it is never mind the what our geopolitical strategy is vis a vis the Ukraine. They wouldn't know the Crimea from a mushroom cap. I'd bet the "yawn factor' is the same elsewhere, this despite Wolf Blitzer's hysterics.

When most 4um members think Ukrainians are Russians, how is there any world opinion?

Anyway, my money is, Pooty will hang a few Muslims.

I did not say they would be guilty.

We, the USA, is world opinion, nobody else matters on the world stage. This isn't about exceptionalism, but rather reality. Why anyone would think a Russian politician is on the level is beyond me. The operative word is politician, and national borders aren't enough to change their stripes.

This is the case where two plus two equals five.

What and where is the missing one we cannot see?

In basic intelligence training, you are taught to look for the obvious, right in front of you, to provide the other...one...

In this case there is a common thread that holds all of these events together. Pooty Poot is just one of the actors or puppets.

It's odd you posted this. I spent quite some time the other night talking to a friend, a clinical psychologist, one of the things we talked about is how common it is for delusions to influence geriatric behavior and the difficulty or danger in challenging those delusions. Meds don't work and trying to modify delusional behavior is often counter productive. Of note was that those suffering from delusions can be highly functional, even possess extreme cognitive ability and still be crippled by their mental disorder.

Honest conversation, do some research.

It appears Cyni has lived past his use by date. Tick tock.

I ALSO find it odd that Cyni's delusions are the EXACT SAME delusions that the US State Department and its mouthpieces suffer.
