Today's college students don't recognize much besides their school's mascot and beer and alcohol brands.

Was reading another article the other day talking about how worthless the first two years of most college educations are these days.

And the next 2-3 years aren't a whole lot better in a lot of cases. Many college degrees are less than worthless. And most young folks just aren't college material, but nowadays every high school graduate with an IQ over 88 is expected to go anyway. So they waste 4 or 5 of the best years of their lives and tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars earning a degree that will never pay off. I constantly warn young people about that; I tell 'em don't go to college unless you have a very good reason to do so (there are some). And you probably don't need a $36,000 car or truck right now, either.

I couldn't agree more.

I tell them similarly and to take the money and put it towards or buy a house outright, it'll pay them back much more quickly and better over the long run in many cases.

It's gotten to a point where a degree is just a credential. The organizations that care about an Ivy League or other similar degree I wouldn't want to work for anyway because they're all part of the problem. After that most companies only want to cover themselves for liability purposes or need a corporate resume credential and any degree will do.

I recommend the least expensive route and that can be online even. That's if they need one at all. I recommend them starting their own business and putting the money towards that. That's another thing that will pay off much better in the long haul. I know buffoons that have their own businesses but work hard and are successful. How much more so someone that's intelligent.

Besides, in terms of content, any intelligent person could easily self-study on a part-time basis the handful of specific courses that are actually relevant to understanding what's taught at universities for say "Business." Most business curriculums anyway are not geared towards preparing people to own their own business and run an entire business, they're teaching them how to be cogs in a huge corporate wheel.
