Porn actors and producers have lifted the lid on one of the world's most taboo yet illusive industry's with a series of revealing posts online.
In a thread on the social network Reddit one user Whiskas2 recently posed the question: 'Porn Actors of Reddit, what is something The viewers REALLY don't know?'It prompted a deluge of responses with almost 3,000 users continuing to comment with some truly fascinating responses.
Some of the most intriguing answers came from CalvinDehaze a former porn producer who provided a long list of myth-busting facts about the adult film industry.
While some of the admissions are too graphic to repeat, the user revealed that not everything is at it seems and that the majority of 'gay porn stars are straight guys.'
The producer went on to explain that most actresses do fake orgasms on camera: 'The women are faking it most of the time. We would try to cast couples or friends who are already intimate with each other.'
Other users revealed that it is not just women who fake it and that producers are often on hand with props to help men recreate a realistic climax.
The producer also explained that, unlike many other professions, the gender pay gap operates in reverse in the porn industry with women earning more than their male counterparts.
One post read: 'Women make WAY more then men, but their acts are itemised. Back in 2003, a girl could make $2,500 (£1,600) a scene depending on what she did. Men only made around $500 (£320).'
The producer also revealed that contrary to popular belief, despite the often corny story lines, the majority of porn is not scripted and the actors tend to improvise.
Many industry professionals revealed that filming the short films can take hours and, despite the smooth edit, there are plenty of stop-starts.
Pantyraid7036, another producer said: 'There is a lot of pausing, a lot of laughing, a lot of texting, etc in between shots.
PeterPinkPuss added: There are a lot more 'breaks' to rest, recuperate and wait for the penetrating lead to get hard again than you would guess.
Actress Ela Darling joined the thread to reveal what it is like to be involved in the on-camera action.
She wanted to debunk the myth that working in the sex industry meant porn stars were riddled with STDs.
She wrote: 'We undergo a rigorous testing protocol called the PASS system in which we are tested every two weeks with the best STD tests on the market.
'Porn stars have a lower incidence of HIV than the general population.'
She also revealed that actors in pornographic films do not receive royalties and they are only paid once for a film.
Calithrowaway3, also a porn star, gave an opinion on the sort of women who joined the industry.
They said: 'In my experience, the girl that I'm shooting with is either a drug-addicted college dropout trying to bring home "Legit" money to mom and dad, a moderate adult actress with a little bit of exposure and does some drugs on the side, or very occasionally we get a pretty popular adult film star that explicitly tells us that we are not allowed to mention her drug use in any way, shape or form.
