DEVELOPING: A man with a gun has shot and killed two media members on live television while they were filming in central Virginia and police are still searching for the assailant.

The two killed were identified by WDBJ colleagues as reporter Alison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27.

The incident occurred at 6:45 a.m. at Bridgewater Plaza in Moneta, Va., according to Franklin County Sheriff Department spokesperson Phillip Young. Earlier, police had reported there were three victims, according to WSLS.

WSLS said police are still looking for the shooter and hope to have a description out to the public shortly.

A federal law enforcement official told Fox News the FBI's Richmond field office has responded to the scene and is participating in the investigation. The ATF said on Twitter it is also part of the manhunt for the shooting suspect.

The shooting occurred live on television while Parker was conducting an interview outdoors about a planned anniversary celebration at Smith Mountain Lake, with Ward filming. As the camera panned to Parker and her subject, multiple shots rang out and several screams could be heard. As the camera fell to the ground, an blurry image suspected to be of the gunman came into view on the screen.

Quite possibly a negro caught up in the blax' newfound media-hating fervor. The area is 88% white, tho, and "1.21% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race" -- wikid.

Virginia TV reporter, photographer killed in shooting during live interview

VIDEO

(CNN)A manhunt is underway for a gunman who killed a local news reporter and photographer on live television Wednesday morning during a routine interview outside Moneta, Virginia.

Alison Parker was interviewing a woman at about 6:45 a.m. when shots rang out. Both women screamed.

As the camera fell to the ground, the audience caught the briefest glimpse of a man who appeared to point a gun toward the downed cameraman.

The station cut away to a shocked anchor, Kimberly McBroom, back in the studio.

Parker, 24, and photographer Adam Ward, 27, were killed in the shooting at Bridgewater Plaza near Moneta, the station, WDBJ-TV, reported later.

After photographer Adam Ward was shot, he managed to capture a brief image of the suspected gunman.

Another journalist at the anchor's desk said Ward was engaged to be married to morning show producer at WDBJ, Melissa Ott, and Ward recently told her, "I'm going to get out of news. I think I'm going to do something else."

Parker is the morning reporter for the Roanoke station and a native of Virginia, having spent most of her life outside Martinsville. She started with WDBJ as an intern, her biography on the station's website says.

She previously worked with another CNN affiliate, WCTI-TV, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, near Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.

She is a graduate of James Madison University's School of Media Arts and Design in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Chris Hurst, a reporter for the station, tweeted that he and Parker "were very much in love" and had just moved in together after dating nine months, "the best nine months of our lives. We wanted to get married. We just celebrated her 24th birthday."

Hurst described himself as "numb."

"You know, you send people into war zones, you send people into dangerous situations and into riots, and you worry that they are going to get hurt. You send somebody out to do a story on tourism and -- how can you expect something like this to happen?" Marks told CNN.

A local pastor, "a friend of the newsroom," is at the station, consoling Parker's and Ward's co-workers, he said.

The Latest: TV station employees advised to stay inside

MONETA, Va. (AP) -- The latest on the fatal on-air shooting of two TV station employees in central Virginia (all times local):

10:45 a.m.

The general manager of a Virginia TV station that saw a reporter and cameraman fatally shot during a live broadcast says his employees have been told to stay in the building, with police protection.

Jeffrey Marks, the president and general manager of WDBJ-TV, said hours after the Wednesday morning shooting that police advised employees to stay inside.

He told The Associated Press: "Police have advised us that as long as this person is on the loose, we should stay in the building. We have police protection."

Gov. Terry McAuliffe has said police are pursuing a suspect on the highway. He says authorities believe the suspect is a disgruntled TV station employee.

Marks says about 50 people work at WDBJ7.

"It's the kind of place where it's all brothers and sisters," he said. "We're all just real heartbroken."

Marks says a nearby TV station that is normally a competitor is covering other, unrelated news and will share video with the station.

EDITORS NOTE: We have removed the video of the shooting out of respect for the victims and their families.  At the time we posted it, it was not clear what if anything happened to the reporters or those around them.

As details came to light and it became clear what we had seen was in fact a tragic murder of two people and wounding of another, we made the decision to pull the video from our website.  There are many other sites that are happy to show it.  We are not one of them.Augusta County Sheriff's Office: Vester Lee Flanagan, a light-skinned black man who is 6-feet-3-inches tall and weighs about 250 pounds

MONETA, Va. -- A television reporter and cameraman were shot to death on the air during a live broadcast Wednesday morning in Virginia by a gunman the governor described as a disgruntled station employee.

Multiple sources confirmed to CBS News that the suspect has been identified as Vester Flanagan.

The suspect used the name Bryce Williams on television. A Twitter account belonging to a person using that name posted two videos of the shooting from the gunman's perspective. The account has since been suspended.

During an appearance on WTOP-FM's "Ask the Governor" on Wednesday morning, Gov. Terry McAuliffe said that law enforcement personnel have a photo of the suspect and that he was known to the victims.

McAuliffe said the shooter was believed to be a disgruntled employee of the TV station and was being chased by police on Interstate 64. The governor said his arrest should be "imminent." However, Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller told CBS News the agency was not engaged in any pursuit with the suspect's vehicle.

"It's just a tragedy," McAuliffe said.

Jeffrey A. Marks, general manager of CBS Roanoke affiliate WDBJ-TV, identified the two killed as Alison Parker and Adam Ward.

Video shows Parker interviewing an economic development official around 6:45 a.m. about tourism on Bridgewater Plaza in Franklin County, looking at the upcoming 50th anniversary festivities for Smith Mountain Lake. The station said in a tweet shortly before the shooting that Parker was looking into the planning process for a celebration.

Parker was smiling when suddenly at least eight shots were heard. Parker screams, runs and can be heard saying, "Oh my God."

As the camera drops to the ground, it captures what appears to be a fleeting image of the shooter. The person is wearing black pants and a blue top and appears to be holding a handgun.

The station then switches back to a shot of an anchor back at the station, who appears shocked and says, "OK, not sure what happened there. We will of course let you know as soon as we find out what those sounds were from."

Parker was interviewing Vicki Gardner, executive director of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce, The Roanoke Times newspaper reports.

Barb Nocera, an official with the chamber, told the newspaper that Gardner was shot in the back and was in surgery.

Schools in Franklin County and neighboring Bedford County were placed on lockdown following the shooting, according to messages posted to the school districts' Facebook pages.

In a tweet, the station said: "We love you, Alison and Adam."

Parker just turned 24 and attended James Madison University, where she was the editor of the school's newspaper, The Breeze. She also had been an intern at WDBJ-TV.

According to her Facebook page, Parker spent most of her life outside Martinsville, Virginia. She was an avid kayaker and attended community theater events in her spare time.

Her boyfriend, WDBJ anchor Chris Hurst, said they hadn't shared their relationship publicly but "were very much in love." He said they had just moved in together and wanted to get married. She had just finished a special package on child abuse for the station, he said.

"I am numb," he said.

The station's website says Ward was 27 and a graduate of Virginia Tech. He was engaged to a producer at the station, Melissa Ott, said WDBJ spokesman Mike Morgan.

"Adam was our go-to guy. He pretty much was available to do anything that we asked," Morgan said. "He did live shots during our morning show for several years."

The station is based in Roanoke, Virginia, and serves the southwest and central part of the state. The shopping mall where the incident happened is just off Smith Mountain Lake in Moneta, about 25 miles southeast of Roanoke.

If I had to guess, I'd guess that the White woman rebuffed the negro's advances at work, and that he made a scene over it, and that's what got him fired. And that's what started all this. Just a guess.

Reminds me of that scene in Birth of a Nation where the Southern white woman chooses death over defilement by a recently emancipated dusky equal.

You're forgetting the gliberal def of racism: "hate plus power", meaning (in their twisted view) BEING WHITE.

Conveniently cuts all nonwhites out of the equation because, according to the loony left lexicon, these are by definition NEVER rayciss because the poor dears are so powerless :-(
