Should This Girl Have Been Suspended For Wearing This Shirt? See the Shirt Here

It seems like the Political Correctness Police are active in South Carolina. A gay local high school student was told to change her ‘offensive and disruptive’ shirt or go home.

The shirt in question is far from offensive, but in this day and age, filled with spineless administrators, it seems like anything that says anything could be offensive and thus banned.

Perhaps these folks aren’t familiar with freedom of expression and the rights under the 1st amendment. Perhaps they would feel more comfortable living under the rule of someone like Stalin. According to The Blaze:

“I’ve worn this shirt before and nobody’s ever said anything,” Chesnee High School senior Briana Popour told WSPA-TV.

The openly gay student said she was told that her shirt which got her suspended was “disruptive.” Popour also told WSPA that there is nothing in the Chesnee High School handbook that explicitly bans displaying sexual orientation on clothing in the dress code section.

“When I said something to him about the handbook, he said ‘well, not everything is in the handbook,’” Popour said a school administrator told her.

In a statement to WSPA, Spartanburg School District 2 called the student’s shirt “offensive and distracting.” The statement also included a link to the school’s dress code policy.

“Clothing and/or hair should not be so extreme or inappropriate to the school setting as to disrupt the educational process,” the dress code states. “Therefore, clothing deemed distracting, revealing, overly suggestive or otherwise disruptive will not be permitted.”

The dress code also explicitly bans attire that with gang symbols, alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs or paraphernalia.

“Attire must not be immodest, obscene, profane, lewd, vulgar, indecent or offensive,” the dress code states.

Well, there you have it, your children are in good hands because such offensive shirts, and the children who wear them are dealt with severely. Perhaps someone could enlighten us to why the police were involved?

What do you think? Was the administrator wise in getting that shirt out of the school or would you have allowed it? Leave a comment with your thoughts below.

Should be up to the admin of the private school where it happened.

No comment if it was a public school.

No comment if it was a public school.

According to the school's official website, it is in the Spartanburg County School District Two, which would make it a public school.
