It is a theory that's taking on a life of its own online.

Search the words "cursed hair" on the web and the prophesies are plenty.

"Whose-ever hair I was wearing on my head, that heifer had a bad omen and that bad omen followed her from India and came on top of my head, and I took on her spirit," one woman said on YouTube. 

After a WMC Action News 5 investigation revealed how deadly the business of selling hair in Memphis can be, Mid-South women let loose on Facebook.

Weave wearers went back and forth about what some believe to be the root cause of the crimes.

One woman wrote: "Do you know the history of the hair's original owner? What type of spirit did that person have? You may be buying a person's hair and their demonic spirit."

Another woman wrote: "Maybe the reason so many people are doing ungodly things has a lot to do with the fact that many of the purchases are made in other countries that worship false gods."

It may sound bizarre, but some people believe virgin hair from India may be possessed during a ritual called tonsuring, the cutting of hair for religious reasons, or sacrifices to idol Gods.

"The bible has no reference to demonic possession of things or objects," said Dr. Bill Adkins, pastor at Greater Imani Cathedral of Faith.

Dr. Adkins is doubtful demons would possess weaves and wigs.

"That's not from Christian doctrine. That's from animistic beliefs, animism from Africa, from the Caribbean, voodoo, religions and cults that practice this concept of evil spirits taking possession of evil things," Adkins said.

Robin Ransom wears and professionally installs human hair.

She admits a new hair-do can bring out a new attitude in women.

"They'll come in and get a long hair installed and when I turn them in the mirror it's more like a "OK girl," but never have I sensed or seen an evil spirit in hair," she said.

Facebook users offered their remedy for devil weave.

One women wrote: "I personally pray over everything I purchase."

Ransom said if a client preferred to pray over bundles they bought, she'd allow it.

"It would be a little weird to me, but if they wanted to pray on their hair then pray on," she said. "If that's what you believe, do that and then let me do my job."

Whatever the root cause of a beauty trend turned crime trend, we can all agree the war spawned by weave must stop.

"A generation back or so it was tennis shoes, gym shoes people were being robbed and killed over tennis shoes," said Adkins. "Now people are being killed over hair and for weaves."

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) — Discovery documents have been released in the grisly death of a woman allegedly murdered by her boyfriend during sex.

Suspected killer Fidel Lopez underwent a grilling from Sunrise Police detectives during an hours-long interrogation last September.

Officers questioned Lopez after the mutilated body of his girlfriend Maria Nemeth was found inside their apartment.

Lopez said the couple was drunk on tequila and had some rough sex, but then Nemeth felt ill and went to the bathroom. Lopez said he called 911 for help after finding her.

But a series of police interrogation videos just released to CBS4 News on Thursday show that investigators were not buying his story after finding an incredibly scene at the apartment.

“Fidel, this was not a case of rough sex,” one of the detectives said.

For hours, Lopez denied to police that he hurt Nemeth.

“You have to do the right thing and tell the truth,” a detective said.

“I’m doing the right thing,” Lopez shot back.

Lopez maintained that he loved Nemeth.

“She’s a good girl,” he said. “She’s a perfect girl, man. She’s my love.”

Then, a short time later, Lopez admitted that he snapped after Nemeth called him by her ex-husband’s name during sex.

“She changed my name,” he said. “She called me the name of the other (expletive) guy. And she said it twice and she was wrong and she was confusing me with him.

“At that point, I get mad,” he said. “I get really, really mad.”

Police say Lopez admitted becoming a “monster” and destroyed the apartment then disemboweled Nemeth.

Prosecutors also released a crime scene video taken after the murder. The video shows the apartment, an open bottle of tequila, sliced limes, a smashed sliding glass door and a hole in a wall. It also shows so an extremely bloody crime scene, especially in the closet.

Lopez’s attorney asked the judge in the case to keep these court documents and police videos hidden from the public. However, CBS 4 News went to court to make sure we could view them as public records, like we do in almost all high profile criminal cases.

Later in the interrogation, detectives confronted Lopez with pictures of the crime scene. One of detectives appeared to ask whether Lopez’s actions were truly because of the wrong name being called out.

“Yeah, man. My mind blocks out,” Lopez said.

Lopez told detectives he lost control.

“I wasn’t thinking, man,” he said. “I wasn’t thinking.”

And he wondered about Nemeth’s family.

“Did they call her family already?” Lopez asked. The detective said he didn’t think so.

A short time later Lopez learned his fate.

“You are going to be formally arrested for the death of Maria,” one of the detectives told him.

Lopez is being held in the Broward County Jail without bond on charges of murder and sexual battery. Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty against him.

Prosecutors also released transcripts of numerous phone calls that Lopez made from jail.

In one of the calls, he told a family member that in the days after the murder he was being haunted by Maria Nemeth’s death and couldn’t sleep. He said, “Each time that I close my eyes I have that in mind.”

(I'm glad they do such a good job of telling how the murderer FELT. Very sensitive, huh!)

As our conversation gradually came to a close, he casually mentioned what he was working on. “I am currently working on PCBs” . “Nigerians have started using transformer oil to fry food, because it lasts longer.
We are not the only ones, as other African countries like Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe etc. have also been doing it. They go as far as going to the transformers to get the oil out. Most of the food vendors that use it in Nigeria go to areas where there is a transformer and pour the left-over from the drums.” He said. I froze, maybe I didn’t hear him well, I thought. Did he just say transformer oil?
To think that he was actually referring to transformer oil that contains PCBs made my stomach churn, anyone familiar with this word would know that it is a danger word.
PCBs are so dangerous and the use was banned in the US in 1979 because of its highly toxic nature, and the risk to the human health and the environment. Polychlorinated Biphenyls popularly called PCBs are organic chlorine compound which are used as lubricants or coolants in transformers, capacitors and other electrical equipment’s. Although PCB transformers are no longer used in most parts of the world, it is still very much present in Nigeria.
PCBs have very high resistance and are known to accumulate and stay long in the environment. It is understandable that a lot of food vendors have bowed to the pressure brought by economic recession, but it is highly unacceptable that they would go as far as using this type of oil to fry. Examples of food items they fry it with in Nigeria are: Bean cake (Akara), Plantain chips, Potato chips, fried yam, and chicken etc.
It is bad enough that most of these food items are sold in dirty environments, but to think that the very oil used is carcinogenic (causes cancer) shows there is a cause for alarm. The physical and chemical properties of transformer oil make it highly undetectable when used, it appears as pale yellow just like the normal vegetable oil and is as vicious. It has no smell or taste and that is why it is easy for it to pass as vegetable oil.
Efforts have been made by several environmental agencies but it is still not enough as thousands consume food items that cause harm to the health of individuals. This is the very reason awareness is very paramount, like the saying goes: better safe than sorry.

Then they riot over electrical brown-outs and will occasionally burn businesses out of frustration over lack of employment.
