I suppose this is a good story for a Saturday night, almost Halloween.

This is sort of personal, but not so much so that it's not worth sharing. I'm curious what ya'll think of this. Larry and I were best friends since age 8! He was a great guy. He was always a ladies man, and a brawler- a tough guy. Lots of fights and lots of women. :-) but a very friendly, social , boisterous guy,. always laughing and joking. Nearly forty years is a very long time to be best friends with someone. Thoughout our life, he used to say that I could learn from him to 'loosen up' have more fun, and that he should learn from me to be more serious and responsible. I agreed. At age 20 he joined the Navy, got married, after getting his girlfriend pregnant ('did the honorable thing') and went off to sea. They ended up divorced, and he raised his daughter. He got another girlfriend pregnant, got married again, had another daughter. Got divorced again. Got married a third time, had another daughter. He started to got real fat, and didn't take care of himself. Last year he dropped dead at age 45, with insulin needles in his hand, that he had picked up from the VA.

At some point maybe I'll post some photos and the text of the eulogy I delivered for him. It's very special. Here is a picture of us when I was the best man at his first wedding in Las Vegas when we were 20.

What a shock, and a shame his death was. So young to go.

When his sister called me to let me know Larry had died, I just couldn't believe it. My wife & I went out there and I gave nice eulogy. Larry's wife had wanted to videotape the funeral, but larry's mom and sister did not want that. So the widow backed down and did not record it, out of respect for their wishes. (Although since she is the WIFE, I'd have argued that she had first dibs. But anyway.)

Some people are comfortable with photos/videos, some are not. myself, I am never without a camera or videocam. I document everything. I like that kind of stuff, always have, since I was a kid, and in high school when I was on the yearbook staff.

So before the funeral, when we went to view Larry's body in the casket, I took some photos of him to later have and give to his wife, who I knew would probably want to have them at some point.

The family and us had a nice visit that week, and then we went our separate ways, back to real life.

So on my cellphone, most of you proabably have cellphones. When you take a photo with your cellphone, the photos are arranged in order that you take them. The newest ones are at the top of your 'album', the older one are receding in order, and then you can scroll through them, or transfer them to your computer, etc.

So one day, about a week or so after Larry's funeral, I look at my phone and it is open to the photo of a dead Larry! WTF!

Now to ordinarily look at your photos, you have to press MENU and then GALLERY. Then you'd have to scroll qwuite a bit to get to the 10 day old photos. The pictures dont just magically appear on the phone, especially when I didn't click anything, But thats not all! When I went to the GALLERY, the 3 photos of Larry in his casket were AT THE VERY TOP OF MY GALLERY. (where the MOST RECENT photos go.)

Photos can not be re-arranged in any order. Even if I had wanted to re-arrange the photos in my cellphone photo gallery and put Larry's 10-day old photos at the top of the gallery, it could not be done. And I certainly didn't do it.

Since Larry's funeral I had taken several dozen photos of things. And prior to his funeral I took many many photos too. But ONLY THE THREE DEAD LARRYS were at the top, over a week after I took them. How could this be?

As if that werent wierd enough, something even more startling happened. Now just so you know, I dont go for this kind of shit, I dont buy into this ghost story crap. I'm not a new-ager or oprah watcher.

So im doing my workout with weights one night at about 1AM, and Larry's voice comes blaring out of my telephone. Scared the shit out of me, believe me. [article continues here.]

Moral of story.

Food will kill you. Food with lots of grease and cholesterol and sugar will kill you quicker.

Dude, I like you, but I think this is what I call morbid.

I'm glad he's haunting you.

I know many people eulogize folks on their death date. I do it on their birth date.

lol! do you know that professional videographers offer funeral videotaping services nowadays? its quite common.

i respect peoples wishes, and i guess the more old fashoned thinking would never tend towards such things as videotaping a funeral.. is it vanity? what about JFKs? it was aired worldwide, no?

Food will kill you

thats for sure.

something we need to live, but can go to the extreme wrong side. i would tell him he needs to get active again. in high school we would work out at jack la laines, not an ounce of fat on him.

I hated that one too. I couldn't watch my Saturday morning cartoons.

I hate funerals.
