Cool Pope (real name) just came back from visiting the largest Catholic nation in Asia and he's got some thoughts he needs to let out, namely the fact that maybe catholics have a "moral responsibility" not to have as many kids as they're having.

Of course Cool Pope doesn't say that Catholics should use contraception, but according to USA Today he says there are lots of ways that his flock can practice "responsible parenting" that doesn't involve the outside world invading their families nor produces so many children that parents have a hard time taking care of them.

From USA Today:

His comments on the subject of birth control, made aboard the papal jet returning to Rome from the Philippines, were described as apparently unprecedented by the National Catholic Reporter, an independent news organization that follows the Vatican.

Francis said there are plenty of church-approved ways to regulate births. He also said no outside institution should impose its views on regulating family size, blasting what he called "ideological colonization" of the developing world.

African bishops have long complained that Western ideas about birth control and gay rights are being imposed on the developing world by groups, institutions or nations, often as a condition for development aid.

"Every people deserves to conserve its identity without being ideologically colonized," Francis said......

(Isn't that a switch! And not being trumpeted worldwide as a major change of RC "teaching"? Half of Humanae Vitae, shot to pieces in one seemingly casual utterance from a plane. Needless to say I like it, and suspect the good folks at VHEMT will too. "A blind hog will find an acorn every now and then...." NN)

When I was a kid, Catholics were encouraged to have as many kids as they could afford to raise. There were some Irish families that had several kids. This policy was meant to keep the faith strong by rearing more Catholic kids. I just don't get it. Maybe I shouldn't have been a trucker my whole life. ;)

Which is the same reason the RCC fecklessly promotes open borders today -- the cliché is that most of them are Spanish-speaking and ergo natural-born Catholic communicants, but it AIN'T how it works in the real world.

You happen to have pulled out a curious passage. Says in effect "there are lots of ways" to keep from having too many kids -- what are they? The rhythm method or NFP, how good is it, especially when women are supposedly horniest during their period?

You are so right. Most of the culture in mexico for example is even worse than here, with no shame whatsoever of rampant whoredom, promiscuity, abortion, divorce, adultery, shacking up, and very few of them care about Catholicism, if they even believe in God at all, which many don't.

If they go to church at all its for a wedding or baptism, strictly ceremonial and social, just for the party.

It is truly a vile culture. Trust me I know. This is not to say that america is any better either.

Seriously non-sarcastically, Art? Had no idea it was that bad, though I have read that many Latins that come here chuck whatever religion they had.

Juicy! Horrible and disappointing, but juicy. Useful as heck too! You've spent a lot of time there?

Way more than enough. I've had many conversations on this with mexicans. I'm not interested in futbol or nightclubs, so I discuss the same things in real life as I would on 4um. Religion & politics, just like my dad.

Let me give you a few examples.

Transubstanciation. The moment during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass when the hosts & wine actually become the living body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I'm not bringing this up to start bickering with protestants, I know they don't share that belief. That's not the point.

My point is that these mexicans, "Catholic" by birth, had NO CLUE what that was, had never even heard of it. ASTOUNDING. I mean this was literally first grade stuff for me. They weren't sure, once I informed them of this basic REQUIREMENT of the faith, that they even believed it.

One was divorced, screwing his new girlfriend and the mom said he can go to communion whts the problem?

I can't even convey the insane satanic depravity NN. Its too much.

No grasp on transubstantiation doctrine -- the horror, the BARBARITY of it!! LOL.... But I do read you, thanks for those further details. Hey, we're having a real 4um jam session here, just like old times -- love it love it love it!!!

John ch 6

I am the bread of life.

Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died;

this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die.

I am the living bread that came down f rom heaven so that one may eat it and not die.

I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”

The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us [his] flesh to eat?”

Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.

.. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.

For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.

Whoever eats my flesh and drin

And I will RAAAAAAAAAAAAISE you uuuup on the laaaaaaast DAY...... :-)

Wait a minute, your PM to me about #20 is TOTALLY off. Here you're preaching an extreme purist line on Humanae Vitae but won't give your own case -- even privately? Guess I'll just have to rest mine then. JUDGMENT FOR THE PLAINTIFF..... >bang<. (It's fun being the judge too at the same time :-)
