Dead Constitution See other Dead Constitution Articles Title: America's Farcical Political Season Rolls On America’s Farcical Political Season Rolls On by Stephen Lendman America’s Big Money-controlled political process is hopelessly corrupted - mocking democratic legitimacy. None exists. Duopoly power one-party-rule with two wings excludes it - independents entirely shut out, voters having no say whatever. Primary season is pure theater with no substance. Voters thinking their choice matters in all US elections are delusional. Believing otherwise is pure fantasy. Media scoundrels, notably deplorable US cabal television, feature horserace politics exclusively, along with shamelessly bashing non-establishment candidates. Major world and national issues go unaddressed. A truth emergency leaves people uninformed about what they most need to know. Tracking polls focusing on electability substitute for vital news, information and analysis. Scandalous media reporting undermines public trust in a hopelessly corrupted system - why half the electorate or more most often opts out. When voting is a waste of time, why bother. Trump won South Carolina’s primary decisively, taking all 44 delegates, getting nearly a third of the votes cast. Cruz and Rubio virtually tied as runners-up. Establishment favorite Jeb Bush, the early favorite to win, ended his campaign after getting less than 8% support - a resounding defeat following earlier ones. Addressing supporters, he said “(t)he people of Iowa and New Hampshire and South Carolina have spoken. (T)onight I am suspending my campaign” - code language for ending it altogether. It failed to gain traction from inception, ending the chance for a third Bush presidency, a dismal prospect after the last one. Hillary Clinton defeated Bernie Sanders in Nevada caucuses voting - 52.7% to 47.2%, winning 19 delegates to Sanders’ 15, turnout unimpressively modest. To date, she’s way ahead with 502 delegates to Sanders’ 70 - plus overwhelming unelected super- delegate support, representing 19.6% of total delegates, giving her perhaps an unstoppable leg up toward winning the Democrat nomination - short of an overwhelming groundswell for Sanders yet to materialize, despite his nearly pulling even with Clinton in nationwide polls. Delegate count alone matters. Most important are money-controlled party bosses able to manipulate outcomes for their favorite - clearly Clinton, Sanders at a huge disadvantage from the outset. He maintained a brave face, claiming “(t)he wind is at our backs,” saying “when Democrats assemble in Philadelphia in July…we are going to see…one of the greatest political upsets in (US) history…” It’ll take more than an upset to achieve it. Wall Street/war profiteers, drug industry bandits, and other corporate predators clearly want Clinton - a catastrophe for Americans and world populations if elected president, increasing chances for WW III. America’s endless campaign season has a long way to go. Trump looks unstoppable. He’ll likely face Clinton in November - a choice between a hugely dangerous she-devil and the deep blue sea, death by hanging or firing squad. Stephen Lendman lives in Chicago. If it is Trump vs Clinton, it probably doesn't matter. Like almost all republicans and democrats, they talk a different talk to their supporters but they vote alike. Regardless of who is elected, more likely than not, nothing changes.
