No way to racist John Wayne day

Lawmakers in California rejected a proposal to pay homage to legendary actor John Wayne with an honorary day because they worry the dead man’s dated views on race may upset someone.

Calif. Assemblyman Matthew Harper simply wanted to declare May 26 as John Wayne Day to acknowledge the birthday of the star of such iconic films as “The Alamo,” “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance,” “Hondo,” “Rooster Cogburn” and many others.

Unfortunately, Wayne’s views on certain racial issues way back in the early 1970s and before weren’t exactly up to snuff with today’s pants-wetting political correctness.

For instance, he once said he didn’t see the problem with white settlers in need of land fighting American Indians who “were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves.”

And in an interview with Playboy, he said: “”I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility. I don’t believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgment to irresponsible people.”

No doubt, that’s a generalization that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. But is it really enough to make the collective want to forget a man who has left an undeniable mark on American cinema?

Sadly, in keeping with the rules of the modern age, the answer is yes.

“Opposing the John Wayne Day resolution is like opposing apple pie, fireworks, baseball, the Free Enterprise system and the Fourth of July!” Harper lamented after his initiative was struck down.

He better watch what he says… Apple pie has a pretty white history dating back to the earliest known references of its Dutch origins in the Middle Ages. Fireworks irritate PTSD and are clearly a cultural appropriation of the Tang Dynasty. Baseball had that whole color line thing going on way back in the day. Free Enterprise is slavery, according to a whole bunch of Bernie Sanders voters. And the Fourth of July? Well, yeah, I guess it’s great if you love celebrating the origins of what modern American social justice warriors consider an insensitive cesspool.

We should probably just ban them all.

Poster Comment:

The Duke was spot on about "irresponsible people".

Those California Assemblymen are a bunch of pansies.
