US Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton should be put on trial for her crimes in Libya and Syria, an American analyst says, calling the former secretary of state’s email fiasco a sham.
Joe Iosbaker, with the United National Antiwar Committee, made the comments in the wake of the new developments regarding Clinton’s use of a personal email server for exchanging classified information.
The US State Department said Wednesday that Clinton broke federal rules, citing the findings of an inquiry by the US inspector general which also revealed that Clinton email server was breached at one point in 2011, though she insists the personal server she used was never breached.
Iosbaker, however, downplayed the significance of the case, saying former US officials were also accused of such crimes.
“The media, Congress and the state department they are all blind to the crimes that are being committed by the US in its wars and interventions,” Iosbaker told Press TV Thursday.
“In the case of the Obama administration, which Clinton was a part of, those wars and interventions include Libya in which Clinton was not only the secretary of state, but a cheerleader and she was bloodthirsty in the role that she played,” the analyst added.
In March 2011, a coalition of US-backed Western countries, including the UK and France, launched missile and air strikes on Libya in a bid to oust Gaddafi following a national uprising.
Gaddafi was deposed later that year shortly after the fall of the capital Tripoli on August 20.
Earlier this year Obama acknowledged that mishandling of the ensuing crisis in Libya was his “worst mistake.”
Following Gaddafi‘s death Clinton joked with a TV news reporter, laughingly saying “we came, we saw, he died.”
Iosbaker said besides Libya, Clinton and the Obama administration were responsible for the loss of thousands of lives as the result of the years-long conflict in Syria, as it was their policies that led to the creation of foreign-backed groups fighting the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
“The real crimes of Clinton and the Obama administration are going unpunished,” he concluded.
