Probably Trump's strongest point is in hiring and firing, and that will apply when he chooses a VP. He's not going to give it to anyone because he feels sorry for them. That Rubio waited until Trump secured all delegates needed to win the R nomination to do this won't be lost on Trump.
Trump will make a very strategic decision on a VP. It will be one that will help take the most votes possible from Clinton, so it will be someone with sympathies from the D voters.
Then again, since Clinton may not actually be the D nominee, Trump way wait until after the D race is finalized (including the outcome of whether H gets indicted or not, if needed) before deciding. Whether he's going up against Bernie or Clinton may play into the decision.
But Rubio? I think Trump has numerous choices better than him right now.

I actually thought of him while typing that response.
There's a good chance it'll be someone that most all of us here on 4um won't like very much. Maybe a Mexican Muslim who's been accused of lots of white collar crimes.... you know, someone who will be attractive to the Clinton voters.

Trump despises Rubio. If Trump wants a woman (which he needs whether Hillary is the candidate or not) it will be Governor Arch Moore's daughter, Shelley Moore Capito. She is a Senator from West Virginia and was in the Congress for 12 years. She is pro- choice. She has a strong environmental record.
