Washington (CNN) — National Review columnist David French announced Sunday evening that he would not make an independent bid for president.

Speculation about the possibility of French running began when the editor of the Weekly Standard magazine, Bill Kristol, tapped the conservative writer as someone who could take on Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee and Hillary Clinton, the likely Democratic standard-bearer.

French was seen as a surprising pick due to his lack of public recognition.

French, who is also an Iraq war veteran, shared his decision not to run in an op-ed published on the National Review.

Fantastic news! Being named French or other geographical term is often another sign of semitude.

Kristol is the absolute smuggest of smug neokikers.

Agreed. They should do away with the title "Price" and refer to all royal figures as "Princess".

One of my fave cases is when actresses insist they be referred to as "actors" to stop "discriminatory" language. Little do they notice, it only makes it more "sexist" that way.

Another is when women refuse to take their husbands' surnames, sticking with their maiden names instead -- i.e. those of their daddies, who are normally throwbacks to an ancient paternalistic era!

(Is that counting the puddle-jumping Mike Rivero cites in Hawaii, no less TSA- infested than DIA or LAX?)
