Back in the late 80's and early 90's I was in a band called "Avant Garage". We started out as a cover band, playing bars and clubs in the Minneapolis area, starting out as "The Verselles". We went through several drummers and changed our focus to writing our own songs.

Anyways, we recorded a demo tape in 1992 and a few days ago I was going through my cassette collection and discovered the tape. After recording it with Audacity and cleaning up some of the hiss, I put the entire album (10 songs) on SoundCloud.

They styles range from power pop to garage, rock, alternative, rockabilly, yet there's a certain cohesion throughout the entire album. In my opinion, the best song of the bunch is "One and One" the last song on the album and a power-pop gem.

"A Little Bit Better Girl" is another up-tempo pop/garge song.

"4 Barrels" is a hard-cranking rockabilly number, "Television" is a ditty about having "52 channels...and nothin' to watch".

"I Got A Girl" is a pure slice of garage goodness, complete with 60's Farfisa organ.

"Fannie Mae" is based on a character from "Whipping Star", a 1970 science fiction novel by Frank Herbert.

"Plutonium Surfing" is an instrumental surf-rocker.

We never became famous or anything - I suppose we had a pretty good following in Minneapolis back then, but I think the music still holds up today.

Thanks for listening.

We need a good link to listen, thanks.

Still "server not found, try again" could the link still be in your cache? It's not going well here.

I like, Bill! 4 Barrels is my fav for dance-ability. It's got a good single time swing beat. :)

Excellent! There is a surf/jangly guitar/punk thing going on too in the couple tracks I've already listened to. I am impressed, thank you for sharing these treasures.

Bill, I finally disabled several filters here and got to hear your sound; just amazing. Had you guys sold your souls to the devil, you'd be headlining around the globe.

Whoever is the lead vocalist is really smooth and the band's tight. Thanks for sharing here. I'll listen to more cuts tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads up.

Very enjoyable music that reminds me of across between Moody Blues, Hollies, Kinks and Green Day. (All on my MP3)
