UN Human Rights Chief Blames Russia and Syria for US-Led High Crimes in Syria

by Stephen Lendman

Like his deplorable predecessor Navi Pillay, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Jordanian Prince Zeid Ra’ad Zeid Al-Hussein, represents US-led Western imperial interests exclusively.

Earlier he was Jordan’s UN envoy and ambassador to America. Appointed to his current post in September 2014, he straightaway continued dirty business as usual.”

It’s why he was chosen to succeed Pillay, supporting what he’s mandated to oppose, instead of working to promote and protect fundamental human rights guaranteed under international law.

On Friday, Zeid blamed Russia and Syria for war crimes in Aleppo, without citing them by name, largely ignoring the real perpetrators - Washington, its rogue allies and terrorist foot soldiers.

He disgracefully called eastern Aleppo freedom fighting/liberating efforts crimes of war and against humanity.

Addressing a special UN Human Rights Council session, he said “(a)rmed opposition groups (without identifying them as US-supported terrorists) continue to fire mortars and other projectiles into civilian neighborhoods of western Aleppo, but indiscriminate air strikes across the eastern part of the city by government forces and their allies are responsible for the overwhelming majority of civilian casualties.”

Clearly he meant Russia and Syria, ignoring their heroic struggle against US-supported terrorists - fighters imported from scores of countries, heavily armed, trained, funded and directed by operatives from America, other NATO countries and rogue regional ones.

“The violations and abuses suffered by people across the country, including the siege and bombardment of eastern Aleppo, are simply not tragedies. They also constitute crimes of historic proportions, Zeid added.

He called on the pro-Western Human Rights Council to refer the situation in Aleppo to the International Criminal Court, urging responsible parties be held accountable.

Paulo Sergio Pinheiro was appointed International Commission of Inquiry on Syria to serve US-led NATO imperial interests exclusively.

“Perpetrators of war crimes and crimes against humanity will only cease to violate the laws of war when it is clear they will be held to account,” he blustered - meaning Syria and Russia.

“This why referral of the conflict in Syria to the ICC or an ad hoc international justice mechanism is critical to resolving this conflict,” he added - wanting US-led imperial high crimes ignored, liberating efforts by Syria and Russia punished.

A Final Comment

On Saturday, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman General Igor Konashenkov blasted US-led mass murder in Iraq, saying Pentagon and so-called “coalition” warplanes massacred dozens of civilian men, women and children in Daquq, Iraq near Kirkuk - mourners, not ISIS or other terrorist fighters.

None were in the area at the time. “These deadly attacks on civilian areas, which have all the marks of war crimes, are becoming almost a daily routine for the (US-led) international coalition,” Konashenkov explained.

“Too often weddings, funerals, hospitals, police stations, and humanitarian convoys are being hit by coalition warplanes.”

Will UN human rights chief Zeid demand America and its coalition partners be held accountable by the ICC or similar judicial body?”

Not as long he wants his job, values staying in the good graces of Jordan’s ruling authority (his native country), and cherishes his life and freedom.
