In hour 1 of his show yesterday (Nov. 9) Alex Jones of Infowars.com claims that the Nazis were "months away from atomic weapons" and they "would have had a nuclear war" if they hadn't been stopped in World War II and kicked out of 'France and Russia.' He then uses God's name in vain, followed by a bizarre denial that he uses the Lord's name in vain.

I asked noted historian and author Michael Hoffman of RevisionistHistory.org to clarify the truth on the matter. Here is his kind response.

"The claim that just months before Germany's surrender in 1945, the government was about to produce atomic weapons is the kind of fallacious generalization Mr. Jones would do well to avoid. So many fantasies are projected on National Socialist (NS) Germany it is difficult to know where to begin in refuting the absurdities.

"The Germans had great difficulty producing their revolutionary ME-262 fighter jets "months before" the end of the war, much less a project of enormous proportions such as atomic weapons capability. "Saddam Hussein did not have weapons of mass destruction and Hitler did not have atomic weapons capability in 1945. I hope Alex is not becoming another George W. Bush type of fantasist.

"Moreover, Alex seems unaware that NS Germany never needed atomic weapons. They had a monopoly on the deadliest poison gases on earth, Sarin and Tabun (formulated by I.G. Farben scientist Gerhard Schrader), but Hitler, himself mustard-gassed in WWI, refused first use of his powerful, state-of-the-art toxins that would have decimated enemy armies and cities."
