Former New York City mayor and current lobbyist Rudy Giuliani failed his own vetting teams vetting process for a Secretary of State position and is therefore out of the running for the post, according to a GotNews source familiar with the process. The anonymous source, who is close to Giulianis team, told GotNews that Giuliani did self-vetting on behalf of President-elect Donald J. Trumps transition team and hired an outside team himself to conduct the process, but did not meet their criteria.
Giuliani, along with Trump-hating failed presidential candidate Mitt Romney, neocon warmonger John Bolton, and classified info leaker David Petraeus, has been named by the media as a possible pick for President Trumps first Secretary of State.
It is unclear which people Giuliani hired to self-vet or which criteria he failed, but it likely has something to do with his joining lobbying firm Greenberg Traurig LLP earlier this year, while then-candidate Donald Trump was campaigning to Make America Great Again.
Giulianis firm took in money from the Mexican and Turkish governments, Belarusian fertilizer companies, a private institute in Libya run by an Islamic scholar, and much more. Presumably these ties would cause too many conflicts of interest for a Secretary Giuliani.
