People's Daily...

A metro project evaluated at $270 million in the U.S. state of Massachusetts has been awarded to CRRC Corp., a conglomerate formed by the merger of China's top two high-speed rail makers, China North Railway (CNR) and China South Railway (CSR). A total of 134 trains will be purchased for the project, according to a Caixin report on Jan. 10.

An insider disclosed that the contract was signed between CRRC and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) in December 2016. CRRC is the only qualified provider of metro trains to meet the MBTA's requirements. As a result, the MBTA decided not to solicit additional bids, the insider said, emphasizing that the decision was entirely legal.

China North Railway (CNR) won a contract worth $567 million for the Boston metro in October 2014, necessitating the purchase of 284 trains, according to earlier reports. This marked China's first batch of rail transit equipment to enter the U.S. market.

The 134 new trains will be put into operation in 2023, according to the Boston Globe. Jeffrey Gonneville, CEO of the MBTA, said the vehicles are expected to cut intervals between trains from between four and five minutes to just three. This change will facilitate the transport over 10,000 passengers per hour.

Jin • Great! I just hope that Chinese manufacturer will be carefullabout the terms and conditions of this deal. It must "dot the i's and cross the t"s". Everything must be clearly spelled out and agreed on,so that Americans will not double cross or nack pit of the agreement as happened with the California-Nevada HSR. Many westerners are not reliable and will disavow agreements when they think they don't have the upper hand,

Just remember what the American government did with the Diaoyou Island issue and the South China Sea issue. It says one thing and does another. Westetners cannot be trusted.

senkohoe • Buyer beware! The USA is well known not to honor agreement/treaty entered upon from one Administration to another, either Republican or Democratic party; very double standard, hypocritical, untrustworthy in principle of which USA President elect Donald Trump exemplified saying every agreement, treaty or pledge agreed and entered upon by previous Administration per "one China policy", become negotiable, etc. The USA agreement with Russia not to expanding NATO not honored, broken promise, with China on "one China policy" entered upon by 3 to 4 Administrations now become negotiable by Donald Trump, the nuclear agreement/treaty entered with Iran, sanctioned by UN is also put into doubt by Donald Trump;..even the USA native American Indian losing land, country and deals said USA American white speak with forged tongue!!!

Evidence speaks for itself; the USA as a nation cannot be seriously trusted citing example above. Hopefully, the honorable academic and right-minded wise people in USA could right what is wrong and steering the good people and country onto the correct path in moral high ground, trustworthiness and principle to which the nation is founded and formed. With trustworthiness and principle a nation is put into question, worldwide! China rapid railway technology is advanced and matured, welcome by many countries. +4

Tatarewicz/ senkohoe • And US went into Syria uninvited with the professed intention of of fighting ISIS which with Israel it secretly fostered. Turns out US bombing has done more damage to Syria's infrastructure than in quelling the rebels. A broken up Syria enhances Israel's security and reduces the opportunity for Palestinians to reclaim lands stolen by Israels. In return Jews make certain that US Congress members who fund the Syria bombings get re-elected to office.

134 new train cars put into service in Massachusetts by 2023. That would be fine but where are these cars to be built?

One thing is certain if the cars are built here it will mean more jobs for Americans. ;)
