There was a recent article explaining the fact that plate tectonics was related to the heat and energy from the earth's core. That would make the increase in the number of major earthquakes and volcanoes understandable. But we could face another 'year without a summer.' In 1816 we had no summer due to the ash released from a volcano in Indonesia in 1815.
