Hmm… Rogue IT guys? Russia? Leaks?
Via Roll Call:
Not much can get between senators and a recess. Except, perhaps, FBI Director James B. Comey.
Members of the Senate Intelligence Committee, along with ex-officio member and Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer, huddled for a total of more than two hours on Friday with Comey.
The FBI director’s visit was not announced publicly, and it’s possible members of the Capitol Hill press corps only found out because he was spotted in the hallways and entered a secure room used for intelligence briefings.
But leaving that secure room in the Capitol Visitor Center, senators declined to even confirm the presence of the FBI director, much less the substance of the meeting. Those who did talk generally only gave “no comments” or referred questions to Intelligence Chairman Richard M. Burr and ranking member Mark Warner.

I can remember driving my old Blazer with lock out hubs from Chicago to Arkansas near the Hot Spings area in the late 70s to do some mineral collecting. Since I was a rockhound I knew this was a good area to go for crystal specimens. We also went to Magnet Cove.
On the trip home, I was running the front door. I went under a bridge and spotted Smoky Bear on the get on ramp. I grabbed the CB mike and said, "Uh oh. Smoky Bear." Another driver said, "It must be a secret."
Anyway, I got pulled over and convinced the Bear I was not going as fast as he said. So he wrote me a warning. Whew! That was a close call. :-o

Single Side Band? That is some neat stuff.
But in those days I was driving my old Blazer. I have an old Realistic 23 channel radio I had a tecnician turn into a 40 channel radio before it was official. Back then you would break the upper frequencies using the frequency number. (My unit number was 693 and you would use that to shoot skip.) The tech also peaked and tuned the rig so I am pushing about 8 Watts of power. ;)

At night over here in Texas I get guys DXing from Alaska and NY on 38 upper side band, but I can't swing enuf off my rig to get them to holler back at me even with my big ass whip.
I need one of those Eye-talian 10-meter linears they have on ebay. They work fine on 11-meter too. Not even legal.

10 meter linear

I knew a guy in Chicago that was running a KW linear on his CB radio. Uncle Charlie caught him. They took away his radio and took down his antenna. Served him right. When you run that much power on 11 meter it screws up TV's for blocks around. ;)

That kind of interference is a lot less likely to happen these days with cable and digital broadcast. Nevertheless, yeah you don't want that kind of heat.

I got caught by my 1st wife in 1978 sitting out in the mobile flirting with a younger sweet thang. We lived in the country & had a TV antenna up. She was watching Ch 5 & come to find out she was hearing every word I said. She came out of the front door and needless to say I was under the doghouse.

Years ago, I tried my hand at fleet dispatching for a few months.
What an eye opener, the lives the truckers live. My hat is off to all of them, always. Real heroes in my little book.
I do remember what 'bob tailing' is though.
I will say American truckers are the best in the world, hands down.

That was some crazy shit. I saw a lot of wrecks when I drove a truck. Both for State and OTR.
When I work for State of Illinois, I remember a wrecking truck with a chimney on top of the load making a left to go to the dump. The trailer tandems came off the ground. I was reaching for the mic to call it in, but the wheels came back down.
Then when I was driving for IWX doing the relay, I was on I40 in Oklahoma. It was snowing pretty hard. I looked across the middle and a double went in. The 2nd trailer flipped over. We switched drivers at Mile 40 at Flying' J. My codriver told me the middle at Mile 15 looked like a junk yard. When we got out to Kingman, AZ there was an iceberg hanging off the DOT bumper.
One time on I70 in Colorado a big truck hit a carny trailer on the shoulder. The big truck caught fire. It was a Mom and Pop team. He got out but she didn't. It was really sad. Took fire dept 2 hours to get there. :-/

I recall driving the big truck out of Chicago back in the late 90s. The cops had a road block set up looking for DUIs. They waved me the because I was working. ;)
