House Speaker Paul Ryan got down on one knee to beg Rep. Don Young to vote for the Republican healthcare bill during last-minute attempts to secure the passage of the legislation, The Washington Post reported.

This was one of the details which emerged from the Post about the intensive talks that continued down to the wire until the GOP leadership realized it did not have the votes to pass the measure and instead withdrew the scheduled vote on Friday.

Even Ryan's pleading on one knee before the 83-year-old representative from Alaska did not convince him to back the bill.

Other key moments in the efforts to gain a majority for the legislation was when Florida Rep. Brian Mast, a first-time congressman and Army veteran who lost both his legs in 2010 while serving in Afghanistan, urged his colleagues to unite behind the bill just as he and his comrades done in fighting on the battlefield.

Another incident highlighting a meeting of House Republicans was when a GOP group left the get-together in a huff, saying they should "Burn the ships," which was the command Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes gave his men upon landing in Mexico in 1519 and a clear message that there was no tuning back.

OK, anybody believe this?

IMO, if Ryan was on a knee begging for anything, it would be him begging to keep his job.

Don Young: Canceling the health care vote was a 'victory for Alaska'

WASHINGTON — Alaska congressman Don Young called Friday's failure of the House health care bill a "victory for Alaska" and said this won't be the last gasp of an effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.

Alaska would have faced far higher health care costs than any other state as a result of the bill, which did not take geography or premium costs into account. And Don Young was one of the members who helped tank it: he had made clear to the House leadership team that he was not going to vote for a bill that didn't take Alaska's needs into account, he said.
