US has confirmed the downing, the Syrian army says its plane was striking ISIS

Earlier in the day it was reported that a Syrian Su-22 fighter-bomber was lost in Raqqa province.

Now however the Syrian Ministry of Defense has issued a statement saying the crash was caused by an American attack against the plane which was conducting sorties against ISIS.

Kurdish media agrees that the US downed a Syrian jet, but claims the Su-22 was striking Kurdish militia (SDF/YPG) positions.

how come the US, which has installed itself in Syria illegally, gets to defend a secessionist militia from Syria's legal armed forces? Also, how come when Turkey was striking the SDF (which is about every Tuesday) the US did not attack the Turkish military?

Good questions at the article.

We shall see what kind of blowback develops from these actions. ;)

US&NATO Article 5: an attack on any member is an attack on all [except when the USS Liberty was attacked, apparently].

Likely, the US Deep State Swamp Syndicate was aiming to provoke a retaliatory counter-strike so as to usher numerous other US&NATO forces into Syria:

Nato chiefs have already agreed to [Trump's] request to join the US-led coalition against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

Russia warns US against targeting Syrian forces - YouTube, 5.5 minutes. Link set to start at 3:37 for the last 2 minutes of the interview discussing unauthorized, US-decreed "deconfliction zones"/area access denials to prevent Syria's military from use of their nation's territories and airspace. At 4:23-5:29, it is suggested how Russia could address the UN and accompany every Syrian military operation to protect them so that Syria is not turned into another mess by the West like Libya was. Russia has warned that Washington’s targeting of pro-Damascus forces in Syria is unacceptable.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has called on the US to take concrete steps to prevent such strikes in the future. Lavrov made the remarks in a phone conversation with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

According to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov and Tillerson also agreed to step up cooperation to end the Syrian conflict. The so-called US-led coalition against Daesh has targeted pro-Damascus forces on at least three different occasions.

On Thursday, the US-led forces carried out strikes against the Syrian army in the south of the country and downed a pro-government drone later that day.
