Wolf Wanders Into Town… What Happens To Him Is Truly Emotional

By Zara Humphrey, Dec 13, 2016

Picture this: a man is out with his dog near his hometown in Alaska. The two are minding their own business, when suddenly the man spots a wolf approaching his dog. Alarmed, the man rushes over in fear for his dog’s safety. What happens next is truly an amazing and remarkable story. The town would never be the same again.

A Chance Encounter

In the winter of 2013, Nick Jans and his wife were enjoying the scenery during twilight when they took his faithful dog Dakotah, a yellow Labrador, out for a walk in the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area near their suburban hometown near Juneau, Alaska. I live in small town in SW Missouri. One day, a black bear came into town and got all the way down to 7th St on north side of town.

A friend of mine has 2 dogs and he was trying to get them into the house but could not. The dogs were going crazy. He found out the reason they were so excited, that bear was out there.

The police and fire department ran him out the north end of town. Bears don't know what lights and sirens are so they run.

Thank you for posting that. I used to live in Juneau [we used to be able to see the glacier from our dining room window], and I never heard that story. What a beautiful animal. I would like to have the book...and one for my daughter as well. She loves wolves, and used to have a hybrid [which I would never, never, never recommend...not fair to the animal to be caught between two worlds]. I am glad for the years Romeo had to roam free in truly one of the most amazingly beautiful places in God's creation [you can't tell it in those pictures]...and I envy the folks who got to witness him in his element.
